How do you do a power attack?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 1:21 pm

I'm almost embarrassed to ask the question, considering how long I've been playing but I've never really used it and was wondering how it worked.

Hold down the "attack button" and you'll make a power attack

Why would you say that? That's just stupid. And not funny.

OP just hold the attack button down and you'll perform a power attack. Tapping it will result in a normal attack.

On the internet we generally include a smiley if we want people to recognize that what we have written is meant to be humorous. Nothing in your post suggested that you were attempting to make a joke.

Most normal people would agree that it is not funny to give people intentionally false information.

Who wouldn't automatically know that he was joking? No game would ever require you to hold down all the buttons at the same time to do something.

FFS people get a sense of humor.

It's not funny when the jokes on someone, it wasn't exactly clear it was a joke either.
A simple answer would've sufficed, considering he genuinely didn't know how to do something.

Jeez! He was clearly kidding! What game has you press all of the buttons down for some special move? It was an enough of an exaggeration to be funny.

Considering 99.9% +0.1% of games don't require pressing all buttons for some special move, it was rather clear off the bat that it was a joke.

Yes, there are instances where the joke can be unclear, however, this was not one such instance.

Equally, and this is in no way meant as a derogatory comment to the OP but having worked in IT for x (too long) years I am more than well enough aware that there are people who would take that advice at face value.
Also, the nuances - (such as they are) - of a joke even as hamfisted as that one was are completely lost in this medium so really, a smiley or a wink would have sufficed to mark it as the throwaway comment it was evidently meant as, especially as the OP was asking for help in good faith.
Also - if you have auto run toggled OFF and you want to sprint, you have to hold down 3 buttons to do so, there are games I've played that require a not inconsiderable amount of master-level prestidigitation to achieve a given end. If you genuinely didn't know, you might assume that that answer, however strange, might be the right one.
Just saying.

Hold down the mouse 1 button while moving. Depending on whether you're moving forward, back, left or right, the power attack will look a bit different.

Your stamina will be heavily affected in power attacks.

That's just to lower your weapon rather than having it pointing forward all of the time. Being able to lower your weapon made for more cinematic shots taken while in "Forge" and then viewed while in "Theater". Also made Machinima's possible.

Guilty Gear has a move that can only by activated by pressing 4 buttons at the same time. It puts you into a mode where you can execute your one-hit-kill move. That's the closest I've ever seen to requiring one to press all the buttons.

You mean http://xkcd.com/386/?

On topic, hold down the attack button of the weapon you want to power attack with. Hold down both attack buttons to power attack with both weapons when dual-wielding. Press movement keys while holding down an attack button to make different kinds of power attack, that have special properties once you select the perks for them, doesn't apply for dual power attack.

When someone does not know an answer, I think an indication of a joke is courteous.... Then again, I just may be foolhardy according to some...

His single opinion may not, but more opinions do. And I agree with him, not particularly funny (well, not at all to be honest).

Agreed, but there's a difference when something looks like a joke, and when something looks like "Looks, my comment makes fun od stupid-someone".
