How's your life changed since you joined these forums?

Post » Fri Jun 24, 2011 1:47 am

I was just thinking about when I joined these boards, back in 2008. I guess I was never the type of kid you'd think who'd love video games enough to make an account on a forum for one, but that's how it goes. Me, I was still in high school, and I joined a few days before my birthday. So many things different, still with my ex, still was immature...that person who started posting on this account is just so different from the one posting now!

What about you guys?

Not much has changed for me, but then I haven't been on here long. I graduated and I've got a better paying job now, so that's good. I now have to wear glasses too - hope that's not because of the amount of time I spent on here lurking for Skyrim info, because that would be a bit depressing.

I went to university, and became incredibly bitter and jaded

Nothing changed really. I haven't been here long but I don't really post much either.

I moved twice.
Broke up with a girlfriend. (Due to the second move.)
Started going out with someone.
Dumped my girlfriend.
Did my O levels.
Lost 20 Kg.
Did my A levels.
Made friends with some of the most awesome people I will ever have the good fortune to know.
Laughed far more than I normally would have.
Been irritated more than I normally would have.

I also realized that, for me, where it should normally say "Add Reply" on forums, it instead says "Derail". Funny..

I joined while high school, then I graduated, then I moved to the other side of the country for college, and most recently I finished a year of college. Now I'm in the break between semesters, living in a rented room and looking for a job. I doubt I'll experience another change as huge as all that until I graduate college.

I gained friends. Those were sorely lacking in my life when I joined.

when I joined I was vain, self centered, an over all angry person. moved, had an emotional breakdown. now I am vain, self centered and filled with despite. I guess the most noticable difference is that I am no longer a total spaz

First joined in 2006 still in high school just looking for help installing mods because I was clueless and my computer was too crappy to run even Morrowind well. Graduated 2009 entered US Army as a Information technology specialist love computers learned alot about them, got to do some traveling and get some unique training. Had a few relationships go south because of the Army but currently with someone hopefully it pans out well in the future. Still posting(or lurking rather since I don't post very much) all the way into 2011. I must say I am not close to the scrawny little guy I was in high school.

edit- Oh yeah, when I joined, I lived in Italy....now I live in Maryland, actually just up the road from Bethesda (Rockville)

I was still in high school, decided to stop playing pokemon because it wasn't "cool", hadn't yet seen Kare Kano (and therefore hadn't had a revitalized love for anime), and wasn't really that into computers.

Now I'm in college, got a DS just to play Pokemon, go to anime conventions (Next Thursday is AX! Woo!), administer 17 PCs and 3 servers for an optometry as well as do consulting IT work for 3 other optometries, and am currently working towards my first bachelor's degree (IS major, CS minor).

*Impressive List of Accomplishments*

Graduated from high school a few years back.. and that's about it. How you crazy kids form plans and jump into college is beyond me.

Not much, it′s motivated me to brush further up on my English skills and I finally decided to learn how to make GIFs, it's funny how you can wonder how you do something for a good 2 years but never actually bother to try to learn it, and then learn it in a quarter of a day.

In any case these forums have not changed me too much so far, but then again I've not been very active.

Edit: As for how I′ve changed since the 5th of June 2010. Well not much, such a short time after all.

Erm..

I joined to ask a few questions about Oblivion a few years ago when I was getting towards finishing High School. Since then I've finished my GCSE's, finished my A levels and am about to head into my work placement scheme in the 3rd year of my degree. I'm pretty much just drifting though life, not exactly knowing what I'm doing or where I'm going. Pretty sure I did a bad thing by just picking a useful degree with earning potential rather than something that I am actually good at and would enjoy.

Despite that, I still like to think these forums have changed me a little bit. If anything they've made me realise how unintelligent I am in the grand scheme of things. Sort of like watching The Social Network with the effect stretched over a few years.

I moved ... Less than three kilometers, and more importantly, converted to a PC gamer. Nothing really eventful happened during the three years I have been here, I'm still going to school, have the same friends, and do the same stuff I did when I joined. Ask me this in another three years, and I'm sure a lot will be different though.

I don't remember when I joined. Mainly cause I joined twice. But, I moved. Twice.

First from Colorado back to my mother's house after I broke up with my girlfriend at the time and lost my job, due to the same girl.

Then I moved into my now wife's house but back then she wasn't my wife.

I got married.

Began renovation of our house.

Had a baby.

Continued renovation of our house.

Sold two cars. Bought two cars. Took apart my race car to sell off as parts.

Bought a wood stove.

Bought a log splitter.

Sold a wood stove.

Sold a log splitter.

Bought a coal stove. Renovated said coal stove and put it back into service.

Sold a coal stove when I realized it was too small for my house.

Bought another coal stove that is 70,000 BTU/HR larger than my old one, which gives me 130,000 BTU/HR. Leaves me nice and toasty warm. Its 20,000 BTU/HR less than my oil furnace. My furnace never turns on.

Cleaned out my wife's parents' house after they passed away.

Took care of my wife's parents' house for 6 months before it got sold.

I was a 13(?) year-old loner with nothing to her name. Now I'm a 20 year-old loner with nothing to her name (with the exception of an impressive, but largely useless, online reputation).

Oh, and I grew out my hair.
