IGN Says "Skyrim" One Of 2011's "Biggest Screwup

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 6:49 pm

It should be: Releasing Skyrim on PS3 without being completely optimized is the years biggest screw up.

And I agree, if Skyrim was broken for PS3 they should have delayed the PS3 release. Instead they wanted to make sure all gamers could have it at the same time - probably at the bidding of ZeniMax and Sony, not the Skyrim dev team.

Sony is the main culprit though. They're the ones who decided to build an exotic architecture with gimped RAM, which is difficult to develop multi-platform titles for. A studio or publisher has to invest hundreds of thousands (million+?) in additional funds to get their game to work on the PS3. Thats why so many games are PC & 360 only, and when the PS3 is included it gets the worst version.

I'm not a PS3 hater though. Games built for the PS3 from the ground up are freaking amazing! Just look at the Uncharted series or God of War 3.

IGN is a joke, pure and simple. They should be ignored, which is what I'm doing from now on.

You are free to ignore IGN all you want, that won't change the FACT that Bethesda released a malfunctioning product sold as complete

IGN is just stating the obvious. Even with all the bugs Skyrim is great on PC and XBOX, but a shame on the PS3. Unlike some forum members IGN has a rather differentiated view on the issue.

I already played 300+ hours of the game. Malfunctioning my foot! Quit blaming the entire game because of a laggy PS3 port.

For different reasons, I do agree that the game is a screwup.
That being said, I don't give a damn if ign agrees with me or not.

Sorry, but the game being unplayable on a major platform is a screw up of MASSIVE proportions. Note the last sentence: IGN did not blast the game as a whole, they just rated the PS3 failure as a huge mistake. Not sure why that seems unfair to some.

IGN can shove it where the sun doesn't shine. I haven't enjoyed a game this much since the Ultima days back in the early 90s.

Three things.

1. Skyrim is a very good game.

2. Skyrim has some issues (both technical & design).

3. You can not spell ignorant without IGN.

I play on PS3

You all can't tell me you'd be defending the game this much if it was YOUR platform that was almost unplayable.

"Yeah...I know my game freezes every 20 minutes but I hear it's really good on XYZ platform, it surely deserves GOTY."

It's a good game, but it was one of two things to release it in the state it is on PS3:

Incompetent or they simply didn't care about a subsection of their fans. Either makes me seriously second guess which companies I put my faith in.

Man there are a lot of blind [censored] in this thread. I don't even play it on PS3, yet I can still see that releasing a game where a lot of PS3 users experience game breaking lag is a horrible screw up. It isn't like they're trying to use a computer whose specs are far below the minimum requirement. If Beth couldn't make Skyrim work on the standardized hardware of the PS3 then they shouldn't have released it for that platform.

Edit: lol seems like Beth doesn't like calling a spade a spade. A certain word that starts with the abbreviation for fanatic and ends with boy get censored

Or people use that term to flame other posters, which is why its censored.

It amazes me to see people complaining about the game. It's literally one of the greatest games I've ever played, if not the greatest single player. Bethesda did SUCH a good job. Of course there are some bugs here and there, it's not 'flawless' but no game is.

it amazes me to see people complaining about this game. it's literally one of my favorite games, so everyone should like it.

sorry chief, but your opinion does not make a game good. grow up.

That's stupid. How could they say that when it won GOTY.

What are you talking about? We are "blaming" Bethesda for the PS3 Skyrim. Skyrim PS3 - It's defective by design.

Give them some time? They've had 5+ years. What a joke.

I'm on Xbox so I'm not aware of the problems. Wait, I bought it for my sons on PS3, their game doesn't seem to be lagging. At what point in the game does this start? Are they just not far enough along?

I'm trying to figure out why the poster made a misleading post. They only bag on the PS3 version and say nothing about the other platform releases.

First of all, they are the biggest gaming website in the world right now.

Yep. They also have no journalistic integrity. At all. IGN is really just the advertising branch of a lot of gaming studios. Sure, it's large. Give anything that much funding and it will be large.

2nd of all, you have a panda for an avatar, everything you say is nullified.

A panda beats a dog in a fight every time.

Listen, this thread isn't about who 'likes' IGN and who 'hates' them. Personally I'm not a big fan. I used to like IGN back in the 2001 days but the writers I enjoyed left.

This thread is about IGN calling out the PS3 version of skyrim for being a broken pile of defectivebydesign

Most seem to be running into it around 100 hours in. Or around the time the save file hits 10MB.

When it reaches a certain save-file size. It's actually very, very small. From one of the articles I read it can start hitting around 30 hours in.

And for clarity's sake, I don't believe Skyrim won GOTY on IGN for PS3.

If your not playing on one of the original Playstation's, (Ex. 60Gb with Playstation 2 backwards compatibility) the game seems to run pretty smoothly. My 250GB Slim has had no problem at all with the game, other then the occasionally backwards flying dragon bug and whatnot.

Wasn't even aware of the issues with the PS3 version until I took a look at the forums, a month after I bought it.

Edit:

I have over 130+ hours in, not sure how large the save file is. Again, I don't think everyone will have the problem.

Well IGN is right about the PS3 version of Skyrim being a screw up.

Yep. As a PC player there's really no argument against it being a colossal [censored] up.
