IGN Says "Skyrim" One Of 2011's "Biggest Screwup

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 1:34 am

Skylag failed.
Actually you failed. Who spends all day on a forum just to talk [censored] about a game they don't even like just to ruin it for other people?

Don't you have anything better too do?

And they said "We'll never know what might have happened to the weird aliens and hot blue chicks Bioware calls characters"
They're trying too hard.

They also say Duke Nukem is "woefully misogynistic", completely missing the point that it's satire. It's like wagging a finger at GTA for encouraging car theft.

Like Ultimate Guitar, IGN has stooped to trolling it's own users

Since when did we start caring about IGN?

Nobody cares about IGN really, people atte just happy someone with a public platform is wiring writing something about how Bethesda bent ps3 users over and stuck it to them.

I don't understand the hate for the angry ps3 players. We paid just the same as everyone else yet we got half the product. If the game came out on a platform it should work on it and that is not the case. It doesn't matter what the game was developed on because the ps3 version is not simply a bad port, the game literally stops functioning entirely if you play a character too long. If a company sold you a faulty product and offered no warranty coverage and no means to return or exchange wouldn't you be [censored] pissed too?

Of course PS3 users aren't to blame, but to my knowledge IGN hasn't done a big story on the multitude of crappy console to PC ports, so it's blowing it out of proportion, the other things in the list were pretty massive one-off fails (plot leaked? crappy dike jokes from a high ranking dev?) so it seems like an over the top reaction from IGN, not PS3ers.

Skylag failed.

If only we could all fail so well.

honestly before spouting off tired rhetoric, or worse yet, linking someone elses obviously bought and paid for tired rhetoric, why dont you get a group of your friends together, try to keep everyone organize, then try to make a game. Doesn't even have to be of the scope TES or FO games are at. Make a flippin' puzzle game for people's cell phones. IF you do that I can guarantee that you'll then learn what a true game failure is.

All versions of Oblivion stopped working if you played too long - the so called "abomb". Fortunately it didn't drop until around 200 hours and there was a hex hack to fix PC saves. It seems Bethesda still haven't fixed their save bloating problem (too many instances cluttering the the landscape after hours and hours of play). Best bet is to get the PC version - more memory to start with, so problems strike much later, and access to third party tools like Wry Bash to clear the bloat if it gets problematic. Or alternatively, just don't try and do everything with one character.

I'd say the Sony PSN problems are easily the worst of the year, and possibly the last 10 years. They KNEW they were compromised, but didn't tell anyone for at least a month. How much personal info was stolen over that time?

There are 2 other platforms that have little to no problem with this game.

Um, really? Looking at PC and Xbox forums paints a different picture.

I unfollowed IGN. They've been so negative towards Skyrim lately and I think IGN Entertainment is in competition with ZeniMax Media. I just don't need the constant griping.

:tes:

Skyrim deserves some negative feedback. It doesn't deserve a GOTY just because of art direction. It is a broken game and the word needs to get out.

It's not broken. And thanks for trying to save us all from ourselves but the WORD IS OUT about the complaints. If you need to complain more, complain to Bethesda not us.

We can't do anything about you not liking the game but you could do a lot less to try and ruin it for us.

Complaining on the Forums isn't complaining to "you" if you don't want to read it then don't, its the BGS's very own forums where else do you expect it to go. how much more evidence do you need to realize that yes the game is broken for ps3 users? thats woefully one of the worst things you could do in Pr and Game developement is tell people their problems don't exist.

They missed one out - the standard of writing within that article. That was truly atrocious, and I'm a firm believer of having your own house in order before you start slinging mud like that...

I will say though, ps3 owners in general seem to get a raw deal on multi-platform releases. Maybe we should look a little harder at Sony...?

Do people actually care what IGN says? Pay them and your game will be called best game of the decade.

THIS. So [censored] true.

Am I missing something, or are people overreacting about this article? I didn't see or read anything unreasonable in that link. It was stated that many PS3 users are experiencing lag, which is a fact. Just because you don't experience lag doesn't mean other players don't. I actually think IGN went easy on Skyrim in that article, because there are countless problems being experienced on all platforms.

I am also somewhat disturbed by some of the posters being so upset over others complaining. So many immature people here just can't tolerate any complaints, no matter how valid, about Skyrim. I admit that some complaints are a bit ridiculous, but not worth getting upset over.

It's not broken.

Armor system doesn't scale linearly, light armor protects better than heavy, heavy armor lets you sneak better than light, both armors can reach armor cap, enchanting is practically cheating, smithing doesn't take into account item type/cost and upgrading bonuses are linear, level scaling works off of non-combat skills, perks are lazily done as most of them is just generic +% performance and some trees are practically copied and pasted(armor, weapons), some perk trees are nigh useless(Lockpicking), magic doesn't work at high levels, weapons scale badly, race balance is nonexistant.

I thought it was about Skyrim in general, but it's about the PS3 version. So for once, I agree with IGN.

I've said it in other threads. Skyrim's PS3 problems are not exclusive to Skyrim. Now, I'm not blaming the hardware, maybe the game should just not have been released on it (marketing failure, not development). Anyway, it's just a further (not the first, not the last) nail in the PS3 coffin. PS3 is aging poorly and a poor platform for modern gamers. Ports are, historically, difficult and problematic. PS3 will die off in the next few years. IF a PS4 revamp comes out that is NOT backwards compatible, maybe PS might have more life in it. But, as it is now, PS is going the way of Colecovision, Genesis, and a host of other gaming platforms.

I'm not sure they're saying the game was a screw-up, but that one of the bugs was extremely terrible, and the handling of the issue wasn't so great.

And if they are/were, so what? Who are we to say our opinions matter anymore than IGN's?

If complaining is "ruining it" for you then maybe it's time to take a break from the forums or find another community. Plenty of Skyrim forums out there. This forum IS NOT only to praise Bethesda.
