IGN Says "Skyrim" One Of 2011's "Biggest Screwup

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 12:16 am

while I agree that Skyrim is experiencing some what the hell flaws. come on does anyone not see the complete 180 IGN is doing on Skyrim right now? I don't take them seriously in the least, I'm more that over joyed that the FLAWS are being expanded upon and no longer ignored but come on, this is IGN, just a publicity stunt more than anything. all they want is a kneejerk

I didn't buy into positive hype and I don't buy into the negative hype either.

I'm an advlt, I've played the game and I love it. That's all I need too know.

You mean the same site that gave it a 9.5 and 'Editors Choice' tag? How amusing.

I feel pretty good about my purchase of Skyrim on PS3. No lag and have yet to encounter a bug (which I have noticed). Only had the bookshelf issue but that got fixed with the latest patch. Oh, and once I saw a mammoth randomly being dropped from the sky and it landed next to another mammoth. Sadly it died from the fall though...

Every time one of these threads are posted, IGN gets another royalty check from their advertisers.

I'd be more inclined to believe them if my copy for PS3 didn't have 200+ hours on it.

Do people actually care what IGN says? Pay them and your game will be called best game of the decade.
They do give of that impression for sure. They have some somewhat entertaining video-reviews, but I cannot say they have a very unbiased opinion.

If you understood three ps3 issue Ign's behavior would make sense. The game runs great for a long time, long enough to entertain the [censored] out of a reviewer and earn a great score. Then once you get real deep in the game and your save file gets too big everything starts to fall the [censored] apart. So it makes sense they loved the game on ps3 while it ran, and they still love it on other platforms, then once their ps3 staff played long enough they realized "holly [censored] this game is [censored] broken".

Well look at that, IGN does more than worship the ground Todd Howard walks on. Must be a first.

They still gave it best PC game and will likely give it Game of the year, however. Blah, can't have everything I guess.

To the people complaining; you do realize this kind of error is not acceptable, right? People forked over 70$ for a product that ceases to work properly if you use it enough. And after 5 years of developement at that. It's a grave issue and it needs all the attention it can get. It's not an attack on the game itself, so keep the devoted fan mode in check, please. They have covered every other screw up this year, not just the PS3 fiasco.

EDIT: Oh wow, the filter switches ''really devoted fan'' to ''devoted fan''? This is frankly a bit weird. At least it makes for a more ironic statement I suppose.

I do agree with the PS3 version being very bad, happy I ended with the xbox version instead.

Maybe IGN should purchase a system that can handle a port (PC) or that the game was designed on (X-Box)

It's like complaining that eating ice-cream with a fork is too hard.

And they said "We'll never know what might have happened to the weird aliens and hot blue chicks Bioware calls characters"
They're trying too hard.

Valid criticism for the PS3, and quite obvious.

The more interesting aspect of the article is that it exists at all. I'm wondering who's paying IGN to write critically about TES:V. Over at IGN, it's not unusual for big gaming companies to [censored] rainbows and [censored] honey. What gives, IGN? Who's been slipping you money?

Hearing all of these complaints about the PS3 kind of put my own complaints into perspective.

To be fair, the PS3 version is a joke.
@JagarTharn12: Bethesda released the game on PS3 so it is perfectly reasonable to expect it to work.

No, but the PS3 version of Skyrim is still a very big screw-up.

There are always port screw-ups, half of the ports to PC are crap but they don't make gaming news.

They are blowing it out of proportion to get attention, if Skyrim wasn't made by Bethesda or was less popular it wouldn't have made that list.

Oh, come on people. This is just the time of the year when people do end-of-the-year lists. No one ever takes those seriously. It's not like IGN started a PR offensive against Skyrim. I get that IGN and Gamespot svck and that Rockpapershotgun is awesome, but these comments are pretty useless. The way I see it this is a pretty entertaining list. I hadn't heard about the Mr Caffeine debacle for example and that stuff made me laugh and go "what the i don't even..." at the same time. :P

The writer used "Douchebaggery" in his article.

Obviously a highly respectable source of gaming news.

You can't spell Ignorant without IGN.

Well done IGN. Wish more of the media would keep up with this story and keep the pressure on Bethseda to fix their great (but broken) game.
