Independent Vegas vs. Mr. House

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 12:34 pm

What is the difference between you, the player, deciding to wipe out Cottonwood Cove, kill off Caesar or side with Joshua Graham to wipe out the White Legs and House deciding to wipe out the Brotherhood? If you would answer "I would never wipe out any of those groups," then alright, fair enough. If you would however see reason to wipe out one of those groups, then I dunno how you can argue that House is so evil for wiping out the BoS.

Except that this is about Mr. House. If we were going to discuss Couriers and their motivations and morals and alignments and... level-headedness, I'm sure that would have been the whole point of the thread to begin with, yes?

I'd blow them up myself. They're completely dangerous. These are guys who'll take over have the Mojave if not killed/kept in check by the NCR

I call the B.S. card, unlike NCR and Legion, the Brotherhood has no interest in conquest. The Brotherhood and House have a lot in common. Far more in common than NCR and the Brotherhood.

Like I've said before if you appealed to both Mr. House's and the Brotherhood desires, you could make them work together.

That's why I like the Brotherhood and House, they know their history, conquest always leads to failure in the end.

In fact my character is a B.O.S. paladin who leaves house alone....but still blows up his robots for entertainment.

We don't know if this ending was cut or if it's just bugged. So maybe, maybe not.

Its a bug. When looking through the conditions in the GECK one will find that you can only get the dialog if your on the NCR side of the end game quests yet the NCR is doing badly which is two conflicting parameters. in short they accidentally set it as NCR < then everyone else instead of NCR > then everyone else. The conditions are there for it to be used they just got the > mixed up with a <.

Similar to how retrieving SGT Morals's body is supposed to trigger a new report with Mr. New Vegas but the conditions are bugged for that also.

Not really. House wants to develop technology for the betterment of mankind (and his wallet). The Brotherhood, meanwhile, is only interested in gathering up old world weapon technology for...some reason. If House wasn't so reliant on advanced weapons himself (man's gotta' protect his assets somehow), the Brotherhood would prefer to stay out of his affairs.

How do they not have interest in conquest? They do a hostile takeover of Helios ONE the moment the NCR has most of it's troups routed at the dam. Sure they have no interest in territorial conquest or expansion, but the sure as hell have interest in technological conquest.

Depends. If I personally was the leader of an independent Vegas, it would be better for the people under my banner and a living nightmare who oppose me. But Mr. House is also a REALLY good person to side with. In fact, it's tied with the Legion as my favourite faction in New Vegas to side with.

So what's the point of a democracy if the dictatorship(Mr. House) doesn't care and doesn't try to control what people do in their spare time? Mr. House isn't oppressive and a visionary of a more technological future. Not to mention unlike the other three factions, Mr. House is almost immortal. He will die some time but that won't come for another thousand years.

Not to mention even after he dies, Mr. House said he'll give immortality to a select few VIPs, including the Courier. So the Courier still gets to control New Vegas, just in the future.

1,000 years MIGHT be stretching it. Based on the deterioration of his body, another 200-300 years roughly. Bear in mind, Mr. House isn't in stasis, his machine is basically a far superior version of a Life Support system, with what apparently reads brain signals and transmits/translates them through his vast mainframe systems.

Also, it annoys the piss out of me with all this 'Under my rule' people say. Independent Vegas doesn't HAVE a leader, it's turned into either a peaceful leaderless area or a violent Anarchy.

Who are the Securitron's listening to? Are they just operating under some of House's old commands? I always figured they were controlled by Yes Man, who in turn did what ever the courier said. This would make the courier the ruler of the region.

You probably could say that. You can kill House, and the Securitrons will still be doing their thing with or without Yes-Man. Our happy friend's last words in the WIld Card ending, however, are rather foreboding, with the possibility that the Courier, if (s)he is running anything, isn't going to be Vegas' top dog forever. Or for long.

So, let's just be clear about this:

What everybody is basically saying is that House's decision to commit mass murder is totally, without question, a level-headed one.

If you all believe that, cool. But I don't.

I was asked why I felt he was not level-headed. I gave my answer.

What I find funny is the same people who say it is perfectly OK for House to exterminate the BoS because they *may* attack him condemn the NCR over Bitter Springs even though the Khans had been routinely robbing, r*ping and murdering innocent NCR civilians for years before the NCR finally acted.

House, without question. Sure, complete independence is nice, but it doesn't have any real future, no long-term goals. House's reign would create jobs, research new (and old) technologies, and potentially even find a more hospitable planet to colonize.

An interesting subject. However i am not sure if it was deterioration or a side effect of his implants.I noted this when he said "i was willing to make the sacrifices longevity entailed, finantial and otherwise".

One thing i am sure is that he is aware of his body's condition.

When he said 'or otherwise' I'm sure he was refering to the undesignated time he'll spend in the life support chamber. When he went in, he was full aware he would never be leaving his life support chamber, spending the rest of his life without being ambulatory.

Edit: This is just my opinion, but I think the flesh and fat content of his body is low because he has a meal system that supplies his body with the neccessities. The foods we eat daily have an excess of unneeded things, but if his body is eating only what's essential to survive, it would explain the lack of muscles and fat. After all, we only need muscles to do physical work, House is incapable of doing much arm movement let alone tilling a field. As to breathing, those two things on the side of his pod that pump reminds me of an iron lung, so that could be doing his breathing for him by and large.

Assuming by Courier you mean me, I would say independent. You get the securitrons either way so that's a moot point.
