Intense dislike for a game

Post » Mon Jun 27, 2011 11:13 am

I think Mass Effect itself is overhyped. It was half sci-fi half fantasy. Why weapons and starships turned out that way were explained in ok details, for the first one. But it still has too much of fantasy in there.

I suppose you were expecting Oblivion style sci-fi, but that's not how Bioware makes games, they have been using the same story build model since Baldur's Gate 2.

Heroes of Might and Magic 5.

It is hard to imagine how you can mess up a successful series as badly as that game did. It did everything wrong and nothing right, literally I can't even compliment them on their new art style because it goes away from the former games in a bad way.

Fable 2 & 3 are also pretty horrific compared to the first game, but I never had the same love for that series as for the HoM&M series.

Evil Ubisoft, worst video game company there is.

Pretty much. I don't even remember playing bad games, I just forget and move on with my life...

I don't hate any games but there are a select few I dislike.

Halo 2 - The previews for it were extremely good and then the game just isn't that good. I really wanted to play that earth level with the brutes attacking. Halo 3 was pretty meh as weill.

Fable 3 - Worse than Fable 2 by a longshot.

Heroes 5 - Ruined the series imo. I did like some of the things the game did but overall it wasn't great. Plus running any maps outside of campaign are very laggy.

I would put Dragon Age II on the list as well but I haven't finished it yet.

Every. Fricken. Racing. Game.

The actual game doesn't bother me, but certain fan bases make me hate the game much more than I ought too.

I have an intense dislike for Call of Duty simply because I believe the possibly true notion its rehashed, sorry ass gets the spotlight and seems to have fooled a generation of gamers into supporting games like it is pathetic. It's always talked about and I can't believe people still like it nor can I believe how some people seem to worship the game series and buy into it. I hate... HATE that series.

Gothic..
Gothic 1, pefect, Gothic 2, great, Gothic 3? Go to hell. I hate what they did with this game completely.
Wished it had stayed a small German game.

My personal tastes are pretty varied. I'm a fan of RPGs, shooters, strategy games, MMOs, open world, linear, competitive, carefree, platformers, puzzles, etc, and I don't really care what setting any of them are in. There aren't many games I truly "despise", just bad games that I try to avoid because they're a waste of money. For everything else, I try to be pretty open minded with both games and movies and get what entertainment out of them that I can. And for the most part, the things that make me hate games more than any other is simply the people who play them. Call of Duty, God of War, and all sports and racing games are all ruined by the kinds of people that play them. I mean, the games themselves aren't that great either, but I might consider just renting one or borrowing one from a friend if not for the fact that I don't want to be associated with these games whatsoever.

I'm also not a huge fan of combat games either. They were cool in the 80's, but we can do so much more with technology nowadays than force two dudes or big-briasted women to punch each other repeatedly on a small screen. It's a completely stagnant genre.

[OP Snip]

You sound like a friend of mine, except his hatred of Mass Effect is much more irrational. He also punches people if they ever compare it to Gears of War. Couple that with the fact that I'm actually a fan of Mass Effect, and we get some strange friendship dynamics going on...

Yes.

Saga Frontier 2 and Final Fantasy XIII.

But of those 2, I don't ever want to look at anything FF13 related ever again in life.

Even Versus XIII? That game actually looks pretty awesome.

I am not nearly as effected by video games as you are, however the amount of fun I have from them.

The Mass Effect series still looks pretty cool to me, although not amazing, thus why I have not gotten around to playing them yet.

Personally, I seek out games where you have impact on the game (world) (in essence). Mass Effect supposedly has that, but the aliens and so forth don't really appeal to me (the Halo series creatures seem childish to me).

For example, I really like the Fallout universe, with the Brotherhood of Steel and so forth; and, the maturity and yet intentional parody and or silliness really amuses me. In difference, the Elder Scrolls really gets me with its in-depth world and the assortment of real-life things I can do, all without much of a story for myself.

As much as I hate Alone in the Dark on the 360, I really hate Star Trek: Tatical Assualt. The game has the most backwards upgrading system ever, plus no in mission repair and unfair odds in combat.

We're all entitled to our personal opinions but I′m rather curious exactly what features of the first game were so horrible ? (I can name some bad features of the first game myself but I just wonder how it made your list since it had some good points too)

I removed a few posts. Here's a piece of advice - learn to argue constructively - you can explain why a game series went down hill without, say, blaiming America. Market growth or changes to accommodate a bigger market is a legitimate argument. It has zero to do with a specific country.

What really pisses me off about the Fable series is how Lionhead is completely sh*tting on the great concept of visual character advancement and churning out these awful toddler games.

Do you want to know something really crazy? I actually enjoy COD, a lot. They were the first series as far as I know to have a battle on US soil, even though multiplayer is pretty standard, it has improved a lot since COD 2, and I just have a great time when I play it. I also love a good rpg too though, people are too complex to just lump like that. There aren't too many people that only play COD and no other games, and even if they do, why care? Your tastes are different then theirs, so if someone were to say something like, "lol rpgs are for such losers, i bet they have no lives." you would disagree with it too.

Honestly, everyone says fps games are so stale and need a rehash, but I haven't seen one idea suggested.

Here are my three hated game types, and short reasons as to why I hate them.

All Japanese games- Mostly comprised of weird storylines and/or excessive use or influence of anime.
Everything on the Wii- I hate casual games.
Rainbow Six- Unforgiving. There's a fine line between a difficult challenge and an all out beat down. Rainbow Six is often the latter of the two.

How many Japanese games have you played to form that decision? And I assume you exhausted hours of your time searching for a non-casual game on the Wii and just couldn't find one?

Moving away from a fairly strict focus on multiplayer and your typical war settings might help. Folks used to complain about how World War II as a setting was run into the ground, but war in general feels so terribly generic these days. There's plenty of opportunity elsewhere, even if it's a story-driven title that focuses on a more personal experience, à la BioShock.

War shooters should still exist as quite a few people like 'em, but there are far greener pastures that've yet to be explored for no good reason.

The multiplayer is certainly good because it is rewarding and dynamic, but the single-player is awful. The only objective is to finish the mission (which was okay in the 90's, but it's 2011). What I don't get is why they don't expand the multiplayer progression to the single-player (not that theres only one progression, but that you can level up and unlock weapons and perks in single player like you can in multiplayer). Also expanding the actual gameplay beyond the god-awful, boring, repetitive formula they use for the campaign now.

That's a really good point I didn't notice on my rant lol. I like the idea of a story driven one, but I feel like COD or BF probably isn't the series for that. I haven't played a full FEAR game, but that seems more like the story based one.

Any generic turn-based games with a few exceptions such as Pokemon and Final Fantasy 8. All the other ones bother me. I don't want to take turns fighting. what the heck is that about? I wish I could say that it wasn't realistic, but a lot of wars used to be fought like that.
