Its Hard to Play Skyrim

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 10:07 pm

All the platforms have bugs some worse than others, but the UI was designed for consoles, getting 8 hotkeys might seem nice to a console user but consider we have over a hundred possible keys to play with and just got a console UI with 6 extra keys enabled, also the mouse works when it feels like, rebinding keys is bad oh and it works a lot better on the PC with an XBOX controller. XBOX was their main platform and focus.

I don't begrudge console users that or blame them for the PC problems it's just the way it is. I also love the game (Top 10) and touch wood have avoided the game breakers so far.

I understand where you're coming from. I know the game was 'streamlined' more towards consoles. They are a company and they do need to make decisions that cant make everyone happy but will progress the franchise so they can make even better games in the future.

At least on a PC you'll have excellent modders (I used to play OBlivion on PC and Mods that came out were amazing) using the creation kit to make the game how ever you want it to be, including UI. We're out of luck on the consoles. I love the game also and I know it's going to be some time before they fix most issues but TES has always been this way.

Sony is really to blame here for the mess of Bethesda games on the PS3. Sony has made the PS3 so hard to programme for unless you are a Sony exclusive only (wich Sony teaches you how to programme for the PS3) it's hard for 3rd party developers to make games on the PS3 without major glitches or bugs.

I feel for you OP. It's a shame you can't continue on playing this great game. I am not sure what to say since I play on the 360. All I can say is take a break from Skyrim and hopefully Bethesda can fix the mess soon.

As a side note, how can all these people saying PC is better espically when the OP asked for no comments? Talk about trolling. Where are the warnings or suspensions? Mods getting soft? Seems like it since I am sure this will turn into a flame war again sadly.

The up arrow is used for Favourites, but Oblivion used 8 hotkeys (diagonals counted), I dont see why we can't have 7 hotkeys considering the others aren't being used for anything else
Want to know why there is no diagonal arrows used? Bethesda has screwed up so badly, that they can't be used. When I just try use 1 or 2, I end up going into the menu. Maybe it's clumsy fingers, but the real reason why I say Bethesda can't use them. Just look when you go into the menu screen. There is hesitation when you first go in and you can't go anywhere except map right away. Then when you try to go into skills, you know how frustrating it is to go into the tree brantches? The controls don't respond.

For some reason Skyrim has a hard time responding to the controls when not moving the character.

I am taking a break from skyrim till some ofmy favorite modders get the CK... (I'm not an elitist but... I payed 1500 bucks for this computer and tend to look disdainfully at my 360 which ony is used to keep the dust away from my computer now... So you bought the game for the wrong system.)

I can understand not wanting to spend as much as me on a computer for sure, but consoles... Until they become modular (Which will only happen if valve releases a console, and it'll be a *ShuddeR* "Steam" console.) the pc version of retail games will always be superior... No offense.

Even though I'm not much of a gamer, nope, I never feel Skyrim is too difficult, and it's especially fun to role play and "getting into" the character. The world of Skyrim is really easy to feel immersed, especially with its atmospheric environment. It's weird that despite you saying you're a huge TES fan, you still feel it's too difficult, when clearly the immersion aspect has hugely improved. It's kinda contradictory somehow..

But if you're saying that it's the PS3 problem of lagging/memory expansion that causes this, then it's not Skyrim's fault. Probably the console you're playing. But.. don't take my word for it, I'm on PC, and it's running smoothly.

Mods are why I'll always choose PC over consoles all other things being equal. I loved Gothic 3 so I know what real release issues are. Skyrims problems are minor in comparison.

Then Beth should have stood by their brand and said no PS3 version, rather than shooting in the dark. If you know about these problems then a major company should have had an idea about it. I doubt Sony put a gun to their head and made them plan, develop and then release it. Work with what you have, not what the other platforms have.

The only hesitation I've noticed is due to the autosave

People who blame this guy for the bugs need to be slapped with the modstick. It's not his fault.

As for moving to the PC platform, it's not always so easy to purchase multiple game platforms. Hell, we live in an economy right now where entire families who used to be middle class are now struggling to eat and now getting charity and community aid. The least you could do is understand that this guy is pretty lucky enough to just have a PS3 and spend his time playing a game, instead of worrying about food and juggling 3 jobs. If your world is more convenient than that, fine, but don't make sound so easy for everyone.

Its very hard for me to play Skyrim nowadays. I just find it difficult to want to build, or continue playing and putting such an effort into defining a character, who they are, what they do ect, when I know, at some point they will probably become unplayable due to the progressively expanding memory file ( Yup PS3… you guessed it folks ).

It's not all that different on PC.
I suppose i'll have to wait until the january patch to even hope to continue playing my lvl 49 Nord.
Continuing from an older save game and pretending i haven't already discovered the things in-game than i'm now rediscovering just isn't the same as continuing the adventure.
Anyone playing on PC with a save file that approaches 20MB in size, and -not- having regular Crashes To Desktop (that actually lock you out from certain locations)?

This.

More like, the "real life" versions of Nazeem. Replace "Cloud District" with "PC".

You all need an rusty ancient Nord arrow to the knee.

I can see flaming and platform bashing in this topic. Gonna close it for a while - maybe for good, we'll see if it can be tidied up.
