I just realised that only 2 out of 7 combat based characters

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 8:14 pm

Only my imperial shield and sword guy and my breton battlemage wears heavy armor.
While my rogue, archer, dual swords guy and my main, a nord with two handed wears light armor.
My regular typical mage wears robes though.

I am sure i am not the only guy who prefers light armor over heavy armor, right?

I just made my first ever heavy armor char (2h orc) my other 5 (i think) character use light armor (well one of them use robes). so yeah light armor is the best imo and when it comes to looks heavy cant hold a candel to light armor

My fav. light armor is the TG master armor for looks, but in heavy I would have to say steal plate is the best/most practical looking.

In every TES game, Light Armor has provided adequate protection to my characters, and gives me more loot carrying capacity.

In this game, once you reach the cap, it matters not what class of armor, or what material for that matter, you use. So, it comes down to Aesthetics.

I have always used light armor more frequently than heavy armor. They both have advantages and disadvantages, just depends on the character in question.

I've always played a Heavy Armored Nord as my main character ever since Morrowind (Morrowind had the Nordic Mail which was great - Oblivion I chose the Crusader Armor for him).

I like to dress a character in an armor to suit their race and built their stats to suit. I end up having multiple other character builds.

Nord in Nordic (dragon plate in Skyrim's case),
Imperial in steel plate / ebony,
Bosmer in Elven
Orsmer in Orcish
Redguard in Hammerfell garb or Dwarven
Breton in Forsworn or robes,
etc etc

1 out of 7 heavy armor, 2 robes, the rest light armor. My light armor char's haven't worn over studded though, cause I don't care for eleven or glass. At the moment I have 4 char's... 1 in TG ( nightengale) 1 in fur, 1 in robes and a battlemage in heavy.

I've always liked the look of heavy armor, but it doesn't work for my playstyle.

This is true, although many would argue that the light armor perk that makes stamina regenerate 50% faster makes light armor the best from a gameplay perspective since it will help you do more power attacks.

Aesthetically, I don't like the look of any of the light armors other than leather, fur and hide, but I like the look of most of the heavy armors. For that reason, my warrior characters typically take heavy armor (foregoing the 50% stamina regen boost).

Mine are evenly split so far, although the ones in light armor are/were not 'in-your-face' melee types but sneaky sorts instead.

Heavy armor has an advantage in protection early on, which is important for a melee character, however at the same time it's not enough protection relative to the opposition's output so you still can't just stand in and take the abuse, especially on higher difficulty settings. Light armor offers very little protection early on, but allows a better implementation of the hit-and-run tactics often necessary in melee at low levels since you can move faster. It's also better for sneaking around, as Heavy armor requires a significant investment in perks not normally worth taking in order to match it.

Once both are capped and perked there's very little difference, so looks and the character's role become the deciding factor. For example: my next character will cap her defenses but will be using low-end gear while doing so; that's all she knows how to make and use, but she's the best there is at doing so.

which tells me that heavy armor protection got slighted bigtime. there's no way that light and heavy armors should come down to aesthetics in a rpg.

Cause bethesda ruined heavy armor with light armor perks, light armor becomes just as strong as heavy armor but being lighter and using less weight it becomes better then heavy armor so theres really no point in wearing heavy armor on any character ever...

one less perk and better offensive weapons.

light specialists should go the heavy route. that's one of the problems.

in that case one can argue that beth ruined light armor becaus heavy armor perks make it as light as light armor

nope. you need one less perk. and, armor rating has a preset max value.

the problem, in your argument, is between weapons.

yep, and, when the hud is off, gamers can overcome it by paying attention to how many hits they take or counting the seconds....

I've made a dual (axe) wielding heavy armored Orc.

I got him to level 33 and realized he will never be as cool as the blood covered, bare chested, dual axe wielding Orc from the loading screen because I specialized in heavy armor... damn
