"just spent 20 minutes and 40 lock picks on a master lock chest"

*snort*
...
Really?
You never played Fallout 3 or New Vegas did you?
I guess practice makes perfect cause I've never wasted more than 8 picks and I usually get through Master Chests in 4 picks without any perks.

I have to agree. It really is easy. I`ve never spent 20 minutes having to open any lock and NEVER used 40 lockpicks to do it. Maybe 5 minutes at most and this is with NO perks. And this is on Master level. he must`ve been really impatient.

Maybe it`s a Mouse control pad thing as you can get a much more precise touch with the mouse. I installed a Mod that actually made me use a Perk for the 1st time ever as I just could not get into a Master lock with no skill.

Personally, I think Bethesda Devs once again decided to make it Easy- it`s their motto now (if in doubt make it Easy) or just didn`t finish this.

Come to think of it, the only Daedric item I ever found was a battle axe. And that was it. But, then I feel like I'm playing Morrowind again looking for Daedric again. Sweet deal to me.

why would you insinuate or expect every TES player to be a fan of fallout? fallout and TES are two completely different styles of games. just because they're both made by bethesda means nothing, not everyone likes the whole world war nuclear holocaust thing.

The system seems to have stuck to the older way of once you enter an area, all items for that area are loaded according to your level until they are reset.

Exactly. I have a safe in my closet thats fire, bomb, water, and cut proof. Guess whats in it? All my tax papers. Have fun stealing those, thief!!
Maybe if you're lucky you'll land the anol-retentive thief that does them for you.

Anyway, most of the content you find in chests (regardless of lockpicking difficulty) is based upon your current level. I started finding ebony, daedric and even dragon armors/weapons (not applicable to dragon, obviously) around level 70ish. I still occasionally get those modest looking chests that turn out to have nothing worth taking in them, but I guess that would happen anyway considering I don't actually need to take anything at level 70+. By then I have everything I need to be content.

It's not perfect at all but it's not completely terrible either.

I have an easy time with the locks as well, without any perks. If you are good enough at lockpicking you won't need a perk in the tree unless you choose them for roleplaying reasons of course.

I have had few tines where I have misjudged the lick and wasted twenty picks on the lock, and yes its frustrating.

I didn't insinuate that.
You did.

I asked if he never played Fallout 3 or New Vegas.
Even so, the lockpicking minigame is ridiculously easy.
Fallout 3 was the first time I encountered that type of minigame and I wasted as most 3 lockpicks on Very Hard locks.
Master Locks are a bit more touchy but they follow the same structure.

Place the first metal thingie on the right at 1 o'clock or 1.5 o'clock, then slightly press the activation key and see if there is a vibration or if it moves.
If not, then move on down to 2 o'clock and sliiightly press it again.
Do so until you find the spot where there is no vibration then carefully explore that area.

It's 'too' easy.
It was in Fallout 3 (Which was the first time I encountered it) and it is in Skyrim.

If a player is not good at the minigame and tries to rush it then they have themselves to blame if they spend 20 minutes for a lock that only gave crap.
But practice makes perfect, perhaps if he had given the post-apocalyptic setting a go then he might not have had such trouble with this type of minigame.
Since/if he didn't, then he only has himself to blame for taking 20 minutes to get through a lock.

Anyway, I did not insinuate that every TES player HAS to have played Fallout 3 and/or New Vegas.
I was simply asking a question and reflected that since I did play those two I suppose I got better at the minigame and have no problem with Master locks.

i guess people don't understand the purpose of sarcasm intended to prove and make a point. no, it didn't take me 20 minutes, that's called sarcasm and exaggeration. it was more or less 5 minutes, and about 20 lockpicks. that's not the point, whatsoever, of this thread however. it's about the horrible loot in a master quality chest, that makes 0 sense...

Well, the last thing I want in this game is predictability.

Well with that mindset certain random Skeevers should be able to one hit kill your character.

Dont forget loot might be poor on purpose for the majority of chest to try and entice us to use the lockpicking perk tree, "treasure hunter" perk I think?

Yeah, I get it. It's not about the lockpicks. Its about your disappointment when you opened a chest you thought would have good treasure and found crap inside. I will go so far as to agree with you that most master level chests ought to have something decent in them but I don't think they all should. They did studies with mice in the 1970s that I learned about in school in the 1980s that tended to show that the mice responded best to rewards that were somewhat erratic. Yeah it svcks that this chest had crap but the next one might have something really great. Wouldn't be as fun if they all had great stuff in them. Plus, as someone else said, they need to have some benefit for those lockpicking perks that improve the treasure.

And if you are still feeling down about it, go read one of those threads complaining about how there is too much loot in this game and it is too easy to rack up half a million septims with nothing to spend it on. Things could always be worse.

I think there's already too much awesome loot anyway and it takes away the fun of treasure-hunting. Thank the nine for unique quest times. Just did the Forgotten Legend quest and it was a ton of fun.

Good idea. Lockpicking becomes very tedius after a while. Too bad there isn't a spell for it.

If you consider that opening a master chest will result in a hugh skill increase, an entire level in Lock Picking if you are below level 40-50, then there is no reason to complain about it. You only svck.

i simply can't undertand how anyone could not be mad at this, and i can't understand how some think that opening a master level lock shouldn't net good items or at least gold. that's just good gameplay.
It's not good children's gameplay but it is very good advlt gameplay.

Automatic rewards are kinda weak actually. As people have pointed out lots of well locked things have little in them.

I own a safe you know, the guy who will open it after much effort will be very desapointed by your standard.

I think the game should have a lot less of good loot and no OP crafting system. You would actually have a feeling when you find something. Right now I'm like: "oh yeah great loot, let's just put it somewhere in my home. I don't care anyway my actual stuff is better and I own 2xx xxx gold".
