just spent 20 minutes and 40 lock picks on a master lock che

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 4:11 am

got 8 gold, an iron ingot, and steel gauntlets. I am level 53. working as intended? i will add that my lockpicking skill is like 20 on my warrior, so that's why it took so long, the pick breaks instantly if it's not in the right place on master difficulty..

i don't think you all understand the point of this thread, it's the fact that master lock chest contains iron ingots and steel quality gear lol..? master lock chest should contain ebony or elven quality gear and ebony or moonstone ingots or something..not to mention a hefty amount of gold..i am not concerned with how hard it is to open them, it's what's inside..

Every once in awhile a lock will give me trouble. Back away and start again- it often resets to another puzzle. I've been in your shoes, though haven't quite made 20 minutes. I think I've spent about 5 or 6 tops.

this never happened to me in morrowind or oblivion lol..if i opened a very hard lock, something good was to be gained, at least over 100+ gold and a magic item..i literally got EIGHT gold and some steel nordic gauntlets..that's a joke...

Heres a tip for locks

Spoiler
When the lock breaks, it will fling off in the direction you need to go to unlock it

Compared to oblivion these locks are a breeze to open for me. I have 100 skill lockpicking in game and only two perk points into lockpicking. I have never used more than 10 lockpicks on any lock and surely not 20 minutes.. Either you stink at picking locks or you had a bugged chest...
I have however had master locked chests with super lame booty in them.

Yeah it happens all the time... hide shields, steel bracers and a minor health potion seems to be the lame treasures I find behind master locks.

it's always been hit and miss with the contents of chests in all TES games, it would be nice if Master chests had high level gear guaranteed. there is a perk under lockpicking that generates better loot, you have to waste 4 or 5 perks to get it, but it's worth it if you're a treasure hunter. it made a big difference in the quality of loot for me. plus you get the more gold from chests perk on the way to the loot perk.

I always wonder why people would bother putting locks on chests, and then put junk in them. It feels like opening a Christmas present...and getting coal.

The fact that Master Locks can be opened with NO skill is probably one reason why. When I opened my first lock with no skill I thought I was just lucky. When I opened my 5th lock the same way then I knew something wasn`t right.

p.s. I`ll just add that one person`s rubbish could be another person`s treasure which is one way to explain why a `treasure` may not have that value to a thief.

And I don't understand why you expect that lock difficulty should always represent the nature of its contents.

What do you mean this never happened in Oblivion? Heck yes it did. There were lots of great looking chests that yeilding almost nothing. First chest that comes to mind as an example is the boss looking chest that the Mythic Dawn had in the sewers which you discover after you and Baurus deal with them. There's never much in that chest. There's always more in the non-descript chest near by.

Effort and reward mostly.

People expect a bigger reward the harder they work.

can't tell if serious. if you put something valueable in a chest, you're going to put a good lock on it, you're not going to close the lock with a hairpin. it's called logic and common sense.

Good point. A heavily locked safe does not always mean gold or lots of money or even anything of value except to the owner.

Does anyone know if the loot is generated according to you lockpick skill level?

The trick to them is start at the left nd move around in tiny increments checking the lock, each pick will break after 3 or 4 tries, once you find the first point at which it moves, move 1 more increment the same as you have and that will be the centre and it will open. I rarely break more than 5 picks on a single master lock and that's at any skill of lockpicking.

Really? Are you serious? Never been trolled by a difficult lock in TES before where you found items that were worth less than the lock picks you broke? I find that hard to believe.

You must have been playing with mods or just not picked many locks in your TES career... I thought the devs did http://www.ebaumsworld.com/video/watch/81982582/ kinda stuff on purpose. That's why other folks said, saves are your friend, or just play hard core and say, "Welp, shucks, they got me again!"

i simply can't undertand how anyone could not be mad at this, and i can't understand how some think that opening a master level lock shouldn't net good items or at least gold. that's just good gameplay.

I have sworn after picking a master or expert lock and finding low value items quite often. About as often, in fact, as I have got really decent stuff from chests with low level locks and wandered off thinking, "That was nice". Just two sides of the "loot is random" coin.

An alternative with the value of the loot hard-wired to the strength of the lock would just lead to other game play issues and as many complaints.

Character Level, if it is Leveled Loot. Not all chests have leveled loot.
