Just Switched From PS3 to PC...Wow!

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 11:38 am

I had originally got Skyrim for the PS3 because I didn't have a compatible computer at the time and I figured PS3 would be just as awesome. Wow was I wrong (and I'm glad) :tes:

I could not stand the controller lag I was experiencing and when the Whiterun tree would not show the new sapling via a bug, I decided to take a risk and go for the PC version.

Let me tell you, I've spent at least 2 hours finding and testing various mods for this game.

The only thing I have successfully done is reached Whiterun stables, bought a horse, visited my mod player house "Riverside Lodge", and rescued Meeko from loneliness

Forgot to mention that I'm able to play on "Ultra", which I guess means the best you can do.

Have any of you made a console to PC transition and were awed or were you on the PC boat all along?

PS3 Skyrim is somewhat unstable, compared to the Xbox 360 version. My friend owns the PC version and I the Xbox version. I don't think it's necessary for me to switch between the two, Xbox version is good enough as it is.

I plan on getting a high-end pc before the end of the summer (I'm on xbox for now), but I'm not sure if I will buy skyrim again. Maybe in the next couple of years when the goty edition comes out with all the expansions included (hopefully they do that like with oblivion and morrowind.)

I have it for both PC and Xbox. I prefer my Xbox more because there is no lag whatsoever. I do prefer Morrowind and FO3 on the PC though.

I recommend the many new destruction spells and house crafting mods.

Then lower your graphics settings. That is what is causing the lag. You are trying to run the game above what your computer can manage.

The various mods (and counting Nexus and Steam there are 100's) make this game amazing. I downloaded a graphics "collection" (the top rated one) and it has changed the game for me. Realistic lighting = dark (sometimes VERY dark) dungeons. Before I never had to carry a torch or cast any kind of light spell - now I have to risk it. And believe you me, it has made the game scary in some places. Like the Falmer are just - well imagine fighting them in almost picth darkness - having to feel your away around walls to sneak past them. Blackreach... *shudder*.

And the armor mods... I usually try not to download anything too OP. There are some stunning armor mods. My theif right now is wearing the Scouts armor. And of course player quests. There are some amazing ones. Just look at the rating.. anything 4/5 stars I try.

And to top it off, there are "advlt" mods. Some are VERY funny. A few even made be blush. :) (They aren't available on Steam. Have to go to Curse or Nexus for those).

Would I just type in "graphics collection" to find it?

Oh trust me I have tried lowering them. Still have lag, My guess is that its because I have literally no space left on my PC.

I've played on both, although I only own it on PS3.

The graphics were definitely nicer, and there are some good mods out there. But at the end of the day, it's just not practical for me - the cost of a new PC, the fact that it will end up taking up quite a bit of space and the question of 'what do I do with my current laptop?'.

On the Steam Exhange there's a "Collection" Tab. Sort by highest rating. There are 2 that have 5 stars. I picked up "Graphical Essentials". Also grab a few quests mods."TESVQuest" is a collection of 3 quests - all excellent. And "Fabulos Females" speaks for itself.

Also look for armor, weapon and companion mods. There's even a marriage mod - where you can divorce, kill your mate, etc. etc :)

Your not. It's just the ones that have problems are vocal about it. I haven't run into anything myself either. That said if I had a gaming pc I would definatly have it for pc.

I've gone from xbox 360 to pc and I've enjoyed the transition so far. My only mod atm is the unofficial patch, and I love playing with all of the fixes. I got tired of having to collect all of the weapons that enemies dropped and constantly looking for nirnroot (only recently fixed) to help prevent save file bloat, and so I decided to try the pc version. I also like that the pc version has the console commands.

I am thinking of buying a PC. Any suggestions on what I should buy? I already have a monitor. I only have $300-$600 to spend. What should I get? I've seen some nice ones at my Best Buy. But I'm not really a computer guy.

Hey OP,

Don't forget to make the necessary changes to your .ini file (changes for better shadows on tress, grass, and rocks, increased range for archery, etc.)!!! You can get massive improvements just from the .ini file alone.

And yes, PC Skyrim is awesome. Don't forget to try making your own followers in the creation kit too!

Time to upgrade the hard drive, or move the least used stuff off, then. You -have- to have enough space for the swapfile. And when was the last time you defragged the drive? Severe file fragmentation can cause lag, or exacerbate it. Or go to Pricewatch, get another drive, mount and format it, and start shifting things from C to the drive. This is actually better; the less you have on the boot drive, and in the Windows file tree, the better things work. And with anything above XP, you almost -have- to do that to avoid dealing with Windows Protection Scheme.

So you can play the PC version and not get game breaking lockups or CTD's as they call them on the PC after several hundered hours of playtime ?

Btw has the Bloated Save File problem been fixed for Xbox 360 with any of the patches ?

The only game I will ever play on PC is starcraft, and the elder scrolls MMO when it comes out, that's it, I have over 150 games on my xbox and it has provided a ridiculous amount of enjoyment for me, PC just cant do that , and does not have those awesome multiplayer games that the xbox has, such as Halo and Gears.
