Lack of Khajiit and Argonians.

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 9:18 pm

I'm confused as to whether or not this thread is serious, since I feel like it contradicted itself in the first post. This is like asking why there's so many Dark Elves in Morrowind. The ratio of races is not arbitrary, and is actually supported by lore and in-game information.

I think the mix of races is pretty sensible for Skyrim. Lots of Nords, large minorities of Imperials and Dunmer, some Bretons, some orcs, the occasional Redguard. All these hail from places not so far from Skyrim or from countries outright bordering Skyrim - and the Dunmer in particular have a reason why many of them migrated to Skyrim. Altmer, Bosmer, Khajiit and Argonians all come from countries further removed from Skyrim, as others have said, and hence are rarer, although not completely missing. I understand that the Khajiit fans and Argonian fans might miss their favorites, but it's logical that they be rarer in Skyrim.

If they have a game set in a southern country - Valenwood, Elseweyr or Black Marsh - it would be logical to see plenty of Imperials, Khajiit, Bosmer and Argonians, but fewer Bretons, Nords, Redguards and maybe even Dunmer and Altmer.

They arent really welcomed with open arms into Skyrim, The weather is far different from Black Marsh and Elswyer, They dont really have a reason to even be in Skyrim as far as I am concerned. Not saying I dont like them, I love the beast races, but I cant see myself playing one in Skyrim, Argonians I assume are cold blooded so they would die. Khajiit are from a desert, so going from the like Saharah to Siberia would be kind of a shock to the system lol

The khajiits you are looking for are colonizing the moons, and having moon suger parties and your not invited.

I would of like to see more Khajiit in the game like 2 Khajiit in 1 or 2 of the towns of skyrim but what I really wanted is at least one male and one Female for my Khajiit to marry but I can understand it being far too cold for Khajiit and far from they homeland.

They aren't natives to Skyrim, most Khajiits only travel there to make a profit. It's cold, inhospitable, and most of the inhabitants are rude to beast races.

I actually noticed today that I've never seen an Argonian bandit. I run into the occasional Khajiit, but I don't think I've ever had to fight off an Argonian.

Gah, not this thread again. >.<

Seriously, it's made very clear that a lot of Nords in Skyrim are racist. Khajiit aren't even allowed in the cities, ffs. Not to mention that the Argonians and Khajiit are the LEAST likely to be in Skyrim anyway- Khajiit hate the cold, and Argonians are reptilian.

Also, neat little thing that I just thought of is that Riften has the highest population of Argonians that I can think of, which makes perfect sense: It's one of the most temperate holds in Skyrim, it's got a river and waterways running through it, and it's the nearest major city to Morrowind that isn't absolutely freezing.

Roam the roads a bit more, you'll run into Argonian DB assassins and the occasional Skooma dealer. There are Argonian bandits, but they're few and far between; in over 100 hours on my current character I've encountered maybe 4-5 such, and all of them were in dungeons. Then again bandit spawns are randomized, so it's quite posible to never get any if the list is weighted.

Considering how badly they're treated by the locals in Skyrim it makes sense that not many would want to live there.

There is only 26 khajiit and 22 argonians. Probably only 20 of each living. There's around 360 nords, 86 imperials, 83 bretons, and a lot of elves. I know there not in their homeland but neither are the bretons. It wouldn't be that hard, you could just make some more and not have them be quest characters or anything. Maybe in a patch later on? That would be nice.

The Beast races aren't always welcome in Skyrim, and they are used to a LOT warmer enviroment. Bretons are more welcome in Skyrim, more so than the Beasts.

The problem isn't the number - it's the distribution.

There are plenty of Argonians in the game - They're scattered pretty evenly all over, from Solitude to Windhelm and Riften. But, there should at least be a Khajiit or two in Riften that ISN'T trying to kill you. What kind of Thieves Guild doesn't have a Khajiit?

I always thought it was kind of stupid that there were so many of them in previous games. They're cooler if they're rare. If you see them everywhere you go, they start to get old. I don't want a land filled to the brim with walking cats and lizards.

argonians can be as cold as every other race (not including nords), but i demand only one, one for the end of the dark brotherhood (since the only one in it gets killed and sithis is part of the argonian religion)

So basically Skyrim svcks and no one but Nords want to live there? Makes sense. I just wish Beth would've chosen a more interesting province to set their game in.

I kinda don't how many Argonians there are in Skyrim. As long there is one for me to marry and one to have as a follower; and I got just that.

That is fine by me. This is the land of the Nords, cold and harsh. No sane Khajiit or Argonian would come there.

The weather is too cold for Argonians (see http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Bloodmoon:Basks-In-The-Sun)

Argonians are not cold-blooded and the reason Basks-in-the-Sun complains is because he doesnt have any shoes.
Its sort of an in-joke about beast races being unable to wear shoes in Morrowind.
This seems to have been remedied in later games.

I dont like the lack of diversity in Skyrim at all.

You have to remember that Skyrim is far more isolated than any previous games (aside from Daggerfall, where there weren't any beast races from memory). Vvardenfell was on the border of Black Marsh and had a thriving slave trade, so that made sense and Cyrodill was the capital province and trade hub.

Think Daggerfall had technical limitations, was only around 7 looking different civilian npc in each city, none with tail

the khajiit homeland is an arid and hot desert and the argonian homeland is a hot humid swamp and skyrim is cold snowy and covered in mountains so its no surprise few argonians and khajiit would choose to go there.

The in game population is about 430 people I think. But as someone said above they seem more exotic and I think it says in ES lore that there aren't many foreigners in Skyrim.

I heard that there is only one Argonian and no Khajiits to marry.

It's 3 Argonians (2 male, 1 female) and you are right, the game has zero Khajiit spouse options.

I'm fine with only a few beast races in the game. However, it would have been nice to see some Khajiit inside cities, or part of the thieves guild or the Companions.

Also the lack of marriage options, when the game has 62 options, is just lame. Bethesda could have replaced 2 Nord options to add a Khajiit and Bosmer spouse.

I don't even know where all those numbers come from. 22 Argonians and 26 Khajiit I mean. From memory, for Argonians: 5 in Riften, 4 in Windhelm, 3 in Solitude, 1 in DB sanctuary and maybe there was one in Falkreath I think. That's 14. For Khajiit, I recall 11 in trade groups, 1 in the college and one at a Daedric shrine plus M'aiq. Again that's 14. Where are the rest of them? I just can't believe there's not a single Khajiit in ANY city (not counting the college since it's barely connected to Winterhold which itself is barely a village). Argonians are at least semi spread out. I think most cities should have at least one individual of every race, with rare exceptions.

Derkeethus is my bro.

I play an Argonian who is looking after the Argonian assemblage.

Bethesda got this right in making Argonians and Khajiit sparse and rare.

Props Bethesda.
