Lack of Khajiit and Argonians.

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 9:35 am

I don't even know where all those numbers come from. 22 Argonians and 26 Khajiit I mean. From memory, for Argonians: 5 in Riften, 4 in Windhelm, 3 in Solitude, 1 in DB sanctuary and maybe there was one in Falkreath I think. That's 14. For Khajiit, I recall 11 in trade groups, 1 in the college and one at a Daedric shrine plus M'aiq. Again that's 14. Where are the rest of them? I just can't believe there's not a single Khajiit in ANY city (not counting the college since it's barely connected to Winterhold which itself is barely a village). Argonians are at least semi spread out. I think most cities should have at least one individual of every race, with rare exceptions.

There's that one Khajiit that lives in the Solitude lighthouse, don't know bout' the rest though.

Argonians are not cold-blooded and the reason Basks-in-the-Sun complains is because he doesnt have any shoes.
Its sort of an in-joke about beast races being unable to wear shoes in Morrowind.
This seems to have been remedied in later games.
Yeah, and there the Argonians are at Windhelm docks wearing basicly just t-shirts. You'd think they'd wear thick clothing, gloves and hats there.

I dont like the lack of diversity in Skyrim at all.
True, but I guess it makes sense in the province.

Just face it. They did a good job making Skyrim seem like.... SKYRIM!

They probably skimped on the other races because seeing too many of them would alienate the newcomers to the series who might think they look silly.

If you take into account random encounters and hostile npcs, there are more :)

I really don't think that is the reason...

Go on UESP. It will tell you the exact amount.
I know the amount, and that UESP is where they got it from. I want to know where they are.

I think it has to do with which race's region of origin is closest to Skyrim's. In Oblivion, Cyrodiil had a lot of every race because it was smack dab in the middle of the continent. Skyrim is essentially the "Russia" or "Canada" of Tamriel, meaning that races from country's farthest away will be few and far between. Especially Khajiits (which hail from desert/jungle climates) and Argonians (which hail from swampy climates), who I would assume would stay away from cold climates.

Take into account the racism, civil war and turmoil in Cyrodiil within the past hundred or so years and I could understand why there are few in Skyrim. That kinda makes playing like one a bit more fun, though.

I can understand the absence of the two races due to location but the fact that there isn't a marry-able Khajiit is massively bad

They should introduce some good Khajiit & Argonian racial unique armor as nothing else really suits them.

Elves have their armor, the Humans have theirs.

Well, Skyrim is the land of the Nords, so it would make sense that most of the people are nords. Skyrim also borders the lands of the Imperials, Bretons, and dumner so it would make sense that there are a fair amount of those races (They are the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th most common races, respectivley. The other races would have to travel a long distance to get to Skyrim, so it doesn't suprise me that there are few of the other races

Here's another thing to think about. Each Province is home to a certain Race, right? I remember reading somewhere in Morrowind that 50% of the population in Morrowind are Dunmer, thus each Province's 50% is that Race that lives there. I ain't going to explain everything in detail but I will for Skyrim.

Skyrim's 50% is Nords. Most of the other 50% are prolly Altmer, Dunmer, and Imperials. Imperials and Altmer is because of the whole Civil War going on and Dunmer because of the 'Red Year Event'. The Orcs are scrattered every where since they really don't have their own province, yet.... Khajiits, Bosmers, and Argonians really have no reasons to be in Skyrim right now.

I think it has to do with the fact that Khajiits aren't exactly that accepted in cities. There's a good amount of Argonians if you go to the Windhelm docks and Riften. The lack of Khajiits is a bit understandable even thought I adore Khajiits. They have a terrible reputation and generally are in caravans due to this if they are in Skyrim. I'm not counting the Khajiits that are hostile or part of quests that take place in caves and the like. Same goes for Argonians.

I do wonder why the caravans are selling Skooma and Moon Sugar when they don't want to be called smugglers, though. Argonians seem to be more commonly found where they can fish. The only Khajiit I ever saw in a town or anywhere near one that wasn't in a caravan was that one that's at the Mage College.

You don't see a lot of black people in Norway. Same thing. Elsewyr and the marsh are south.

Their sparse numbers make them feel more foreign and exotic. This is not a bad thing.

I agree completely. This is what makes a lot of people choose these races. Many people like to play as a rare race. If there was an equal amount of all races, none would special anymore. It just makes sense for Skyrim to be a largely nord-dominated land.

I miss them, if your going to have 10 playable races, why not actually have them present. I mean I only seen one bandit khajiit and 3 argonian bandits, compared to the 100s of men and mer that jump me every ten feet in this game. That's very uneven spawning.

Bosmers and Khajiits that left their homelands because of political struggle. I read somewhere that the Confederation of Elswyer is now two ancient provinces of Pellitine and Anequina because of a coup and are now client states of the Thalmor

I think there should be a decent amount of argonians down toward the south, and the khajiit shouldn't really be inside cities, just roaming as they do. I mean khajiit don't want to be in Skyrim. They prefer warmer areas, so while I miss their presence, I feel that Beth got it right
