Laptops are a particular pain when they start going bad, I've had a lot of experience with the downhill slope of a laptop in the end no matter what you do or who you pay once the death knell has sound there is no stopping it, reformatting mine saved it for a while but it's pretty much a shiny black anchor at this point.
