World in Conflict for the PC. Had a hard time though as my pc struggled with the low graphics.

Mount & Blade series. Best indie games (as well as some of the best rpgs in recent years) I have had the pleasure of playing. They are incredibly deep and usually pretty cheap on steam.

Shadows of the Damned. It was hilarious, it had a great soundtrack, and an interesting ending. Not many people seem to like it, so I doubt there will be more of the game, though. Don't know if that's a good or bad thing.

I've got another one, http://xbox360.ign.com/objects/780/780082.html for the 360. I thought it was hilarious.

I remember playing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0_5Vl35X9o for hours and hours. I loved Hit and Run, but totally forgot about it until now. Wow. I'm not saying its an unknown game, but I still loved it.

The Dark Cloud series. Dark Chronicle is by far my favorite game of all time.

This, so many times this.

I really loved Jade Empire. Not sure why it didn't get any love at the time. Probably the second best BioWare game I've played, after Mass Effect 2. Loved the setting, the storyline, the combat; too bad sales were too lukewarm to get a sequel made.

I was thinking about this.

For me it would have to be Divinity 2: Dragon Knight Saga.

Its an awesome game and absolutely no one I know has even hear of it. Which is a shame since Larian, the developer, should get more recognition for it.

Its only $20 new and is defiantly worth $60. Its your standard action RPG, but it has so much more to it.

-The world is great - IMO its got enough lore to rival the dragon age universe, and the ingame books are great
-theres a learning curve thats just right
-later in the game it has a difficulty that you no longer see in games (its by no means impossible, but it is still challenging)
-Mind reading, its an awesome skill and adds more depth to the conversations and characters
-Turning into a dragon. Did I mention you could do this? Its absolutely awesome, one of the best parts of the game
-Lots of content. I just finished a play through with 170hrs doing everything I could find.

Its on the PC and 360, and its absolutely worth the price.

Please do yourself a favor and pick up the game, its a bit iffy at the start, but gets awesome later in the game.

Theres a demo on XBL and Steam, and the demo can last about 5 hours, so go play it :foodndrink:

This is exactly the game I thought of. It's brilliant. But I gotta be honest, turning into a dragon is the worst part of the game. I love the human-form fighting stuff.

It is well done for what it is, but it does seem that the majority of players prefer the first half of the game that's spent wandering around Broken Valley on foot, which was a really magical experience. I was surprised how good the add-on was, though: I thought being confined to a city would feel incredibly claustrophobic--and it does, kind of--but I found it a fascinating place to explore with far more to do than I'd anticipated, and didn't get bored of being there until I'd finally run out of quests.

I have to add Shadow of the Colossus for the PS2, of all the games I have ever played it is the closest one to art. It is just 16 boss battles and a bit of exploration, but the bosses were so breathtakingly beautiful that I just wanted to stand there and admire them instead of inserting my magic sword into its head.

There's a lot of DECENTLY-known games being mentioned here; just because the mainstream media hasn't picked up on them (or continues to do so) like they do every latest Battle Calls: Field of Duty release, doesn't mean that no one knows about them.

Now, to mention a game that some of you MIGHT remember me talking of before, that few know of... There was this little-known space RPG from 1990 called Hard Nova. Basically, it was a sort of mash-up of space-based games and ground-based games; so kinda like X3: Reunion meets Knights of the Old Republic a decade and a half before either game existed. It featured a pretty solid gameplay system, non-frustrating controls, relatively well-done dialogue systems, (fun fact: you could end any conversation early, including by simply shooting the NPC a la "Han Solo shot first") and a variety of gameplay activities. (smuggling, trading, space combat, ground combat, surface combat, etc.)

Only real downside is the game is so TINY. Judging from the length of some "Let's Play" videos done of it (which I'd recommend for more information) the entire main storyline lasts maybe up to 4-5 hours, and most side-content doesn't add more than maybe an hour or two more before it gets stale and repetitive. In comparison to other space-sim games, the world is comparatively tiny: 7 planets across 4 star systems, with around 30 surface locations to explore on foot. The game does have decent character and story development, though, with over a dozen characters available for your party.

Does S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series count?

I only see people talking about it after I have showed them the games.

I love the game for the suspense it can create, it's a good post-apoc. survival game , in addition to good shooter game.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsnVtEZIMR4 would propably qualify for "lesser known". It's a strategy game set in an alternative history where Japan was divided instead of Germany after WW2. Set in the 60's, featuring diesel powered mechs :hehe:

Pretty fun, but got real difficult towards the end.

In This Thread, but I don't think it was a proper use (perhaps it was sarcastic? but I don't think so?), because I imagine, these are not very 'famous' games in a certain sense of the word. I'd actually guess more accurately: ITT: non-blockbuster games that some people know about. Furthermore, "lesser known games" is ambiguous in itself. If you talk to an average schmo, he'll probably not have much knowledge beyond CoD, WoW, and the like. This schmo probably knows about Oblivion, might know about Morrowind, but certainly doesn't know about Daggerfall. On the other hand, the average Beth forumite will have a very different perspective on what games are 'lesser known'. Saying to the average Beth forumite that I like Arena is a lot different than telling your average gamer.

Hmm I would probably say Super Mario RPG Legend Of The Seven Stars was a good one that not too many people know/knew about. They have it up on the Wii digital store I think for $5 but I have the original game somewhere around my house for the SNES. It's really fun made by the guys that did Final Fantasy I believe using the mario characters. When I was a kid this game took me like a month to complete learning about every little area. Now it takes me about 3 days to complete even when doing the secrete stuff like Yoshi Racing.

Well I always like to plug Terranigma. It'd be lesser known because it was never released to the states. You can find PAL versions of it, but good luck on that one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVLuA_xye2k(one of his favorite games, for good reason).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mE1DaVMN6pE is probably the best in the series. It had an amazingly well done multiplayer mode too.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cu_xdCHdSqg. Remember when older games despite their dated graphics and limited colors had great gameplay? Hero Core remembers. Also with hidden https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfM3vtVlCTw that touhou fans are sure to love.

Parasite Eve
I started with Zelda 1. I plunged into Super Mario RPG, and FF7 got me into RPGs. But Parasite Eve is the beginning of my gaming career.

Deception III
Was something new. HP and MP bars, but you use your environment to kill enemies. Plus you use a woman. And I love heroines.

Grandia II
Ryudo is the badest ass main character ever..

Thousand Arms
A dating sim that does it right, unlike say, Ar Tonelico.

Granstream Saga
This is one of those games where I wish I had a good close friend right about now.
