Lesser known games that you love

I was thinking about this.

For me it would have to be Divinity 2: Dragon Knight Saga.

Its an awesome game and absolutely no one I know has even hear of it. Which is a shame since Larian, the developer, should get more recognition for it.

Its only $20 new and is defiantly worth $60. Its your standard action RPG, but it has so much more to it.

-The world is great - IMO its got enough lore to rival the dragon age universe, and the ingame books are great
-theres a learning curve thats just right
-later in the game it has a difficulty that you no longer see in games (its by no means impossible, but it is still challenging)
-Mind reading, its an awesome skill and adds more depth to the conversations and characters
-Turning into a dragon. Did I mention you could do this? Its absolutely awesome, one of the best parts of the game
-Lots of content. I just finished a play through with 170hrs doing everything I could find.

Its on the PC and 360, and its absolutely worth the price.

Please do yourself a favor and pick up the game, its a bit iffy at the start, but gets awesome later in the game.

Theres a demo on XBL and Steam, and the demo can last about 5 hours, so go play it :foodndrink:

Guess none of mine are especially unknown, but there are probably a lot of people who haven't played them.

1) Limbo - stunningly beautiful platformer with some cool physics puzzles, makes you feel intelligent too.

2) Penumbra and Amnesia - both are terrifying survival horror games, Amnesia is better but Penumbra's brilliant too.

3) Trials HD - like one of those old trial bike flash games on steroids. Awesome graphics, awesome physics, awesome tracks.

4) Dear Esther - amazingly pretty interactive ghost story, indie remake of an old Source mod. Pushes the engine to it's limits.
That's all I can think of for now.

Outside of /a/ (don't go there), I guess the persona series. Not very well known, still getting a vita for P4 the golden.

Brave Fencer Musashi- It's an action-rpg sort of reminiscent of Zelda that was made for the PS1 back when Square Enix was still Squaresoft. Very fun game if you can get past the terrible voice acting.

Space Pirates and Zombies - An indie space combat game with RTSish/RPGish attributes. It still complately melts my mind that only two people made this game.
Age of Empires series - The RTS seems to be the least popular genre in gaming, but I would definitely recommend this as the perfect starting point.
Grid - This game doesn't seem to get any mention on these forums. It is still my favourite racing game ever, the only flaw I can find is no splitscreen.
Blazing Angels 2 - I consider this game to be the spiritual successor to Crimson Skies. Not in the story, but in the best flight control since Crimson Skies.
Brothers in Arms series - Still my favourite WW2 FPS games, a definite breath of fresh air after Call of Duty. The squad combat is amazing in these three games.
Warhammer: Dawn of War 2 - A great top down tactics based game. I refuse to call it a true RTS, but its still fantastic.

So much yes!

Add to that Pathologic, Battle Isle Incubation, Earth 2150 The Moon Project, Urban Assault and No One Lives Forever.

http://youtu.be/XzRMOsyr3Cg - Combat is clunky, but the story and atmosphere are great. A somewhat unique spin on the post apocalyptic business.

Trine isn't hugely popular, and with Trine 2 coming out soon, I'm about to play back through it. Beautiful art design, 2d puzzler/platformer.

NOX is a fantastic action RPG. So good I played through three times! (it has three different stories based on which class you choose)

Summon Night: Swordcraft Story 1 and 2 are my all time favorite GBA games ever made. Better than Pokemon even.

What an excellent racing game that was, I absolutely loved it.

You'll find a few fans of it around here, happily. I love that game and agree that it's rather under-recognised; interesting take on the Gamebryo engine we're all familiar with, and the game itself has some neat features. I mostly like it for the sly humour and the soundtrack, though!

I love how when you killed the bug enemies and you got blood on your visor, it'd clean it off with these laser-like windshield wipers. :P

Other than that, the big burly wookies were awesome. I thought it was a pretty boring game, other than that, though.

Some of my favorite unknown games include:

-Deadlock
-Escape Velocity Override (and nearly every old Ambrosia Software title)
-Jump Zampolli

Wish and you shall receive.. http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/6550/dan_houser_on_how_rockstar_does_it.php?page=2.

Also, contrary to a lot of people, we like to take a little bit of time at the end of a game before starting a sequel, so we can wait for the excitement or disappointment and everything else of the experience to shake down and really see what we should do in the next game.

So we knew that we didn't want to start doing the Bully sequel instantly at that second with those guys -- even though it is a property that, like Max, we adore and might come back to in the future. There was just no impetus to do that then. So we said, "You can do Max, and then we will see what we can do with Bully." So it was really waiting for the slot to open up and the group to open up to at least start work on it.

Blood Will Tell on the PS2. Based on the manga Dororo to Hyakkimaru, it's a very short story and some would call it dull but I find it to be pretty beautiful and it's surprising how much you can come to care about the characters. Anyway about the game it features quite a lot of boss battles and they can be surprisingly unique considering the limited tools the game gives you. A good game that's well worth playing.

I would mention Okami but it's not really "that" much of a "lesser known game", so it does not get to take part in this thread.

On the PC I will give a mention to a game I was surprised by but I do not quite love it, just like it mildly but considering how low my expectations were I was in for a surprise about how fun it could be. Impossible Creatures, why did I buy a game I had low expectations for ? Well just look at the cover...

http://www.gametab.com/images/ss/pc/1026/box-l.jpg

The only game I've ever bought only because I was sold on the cover, I saw it in a small bargain store selling it for like 15 times less than the price of a normal modern game so I decided that the cover was weird enough for me to be interested in checking out its contents for that price.

What I found inside was an RTS game with the most unique troops I've ever seen in an RTS. Creating your own custom units can be pretty fun, you can tailor them to your own personality like I'm very much into defense so I made a unit that had the torso + front claws of a lobster along with the tail + hind legs + head of a crocodile. A regenerating high health defensive creature with decent offensive capabilities to boot :P And that's just one example of many, so many choices when you can swap around like 5 body-parts of any two combined animals you can get in the game (flying sharks anyone ?).

Also for those who watch MLP:FiM it seems the two main female characters in the game are voice acted by Kathleen Barr who also happens to be The Great And Powerful Trixie! And two of the main male characters one being the one you play as is voiced by the Lee Tockar who does Snips (less awesome but still...)

If you end up taking a look at either one of them I recommend Blood Will Tell first of all however, it makes my top 10 playstation games list (of all the PS consoles, from 1 - 3).

The remake isn't out yet though. But it shouldn't be much longer... ;)

http://store.steampowered.com/app/107100/?snr=1_4_4__13 is one of my favourite indie games of this year. It's an action RPG, with nice 1080p handpainted artwork, an awesome soundtrack (free to listen http://supergiantgames.bandcamp.com/) and a nice story presented in a interesting way, through a narrator who tells your story as you go through the levels, while also making specific comments about what you're doing (like falling off the level).

I've also put many hours in http://store.steampowered.com/app/49600, which can basically be described as 'Asteroids meets Audiosurf'.
