Let's Kill Hitler premiere

Post » Sun Oct 02, 2011 3:36 pm

Let's Kill Hitler, the latest episode of Doctor Who, premiered tonight. Anybody else catch it? What did everybody think of it?

If anybody in the US missed it, it's on again at 12 on BBC America, idk about in the UK.

I caught it. I thought it was great! I'm not usually surprised by plot twists, but I wouldn't have connected Mels with River (at least, not for a while).

I was kinda meh about it. Glad for the new season, yes, but it just seemed a bit too... I dunno, not Doctor Who-ish.

The UK got it last week, they get Doctor Who a week before us IIRC (if it's any consolation: we get Torchwood: Miracle Day before they do)

"Oh hey, we don't get the first bar of candy. But we can get the first huge bowl of old porridge!" :hehe:

't was a good episode. Nice temporal loops added to the timey wimey ball. All I want from a Dr Who episode, really. ^_^

I've never watched any Doctor Who. Would I be able to enjoy it if I just jumped in now?

Not quite. Start with the Ninth, or if you just want to be up to date, with the current Doctor. There are far too many intertwined story arcs to just start in the middle.

Not yet, its aired on the 3rd of September here in Australia. No amused, theres no excuse really. We have the technology to air it at the same time nowadays so whats the point in not letting us see it for another week?

This is the best summary of the show I've ever seen:

There’s a big blue box. It’s bigger on the inside than the outside. It can go anywhere in space and time, sometimes where it is supposed to go. Something will go wrong, and there’s some bloke called The Doctor who’ll make it all right because he’s awesome -Neil Gaiman

But yeah, I agree that you should either start with the Ninth, or with the beginning of the Eleventh. The Ninth is generally considered the weakest of the modern doctors (no disrespect intended, he's still pretty awesome) so if you dislike him, don't assume you won't like the other two.

Oh, and marko, I believe it's streaming online somewhere, I'd do a search.

I'd reccomend starting with the David Tennant episodes, or even Tom Baker

The new guy is a little...... hard to take at times

Smith's better than Tennant IMO, but then again I wasn't overly fond of Tennant.

I just find his character to be a little to bumbling, sure the Doctor isn't ever really in control of whats going on but he doesn't seem to have much intelligence/

We got it yesterday. I'm unhappy that you guys don't have to wait and you get Torchwood before us :verymad:

EDIT: But I did enjoy the episode and it's nice to have it back.

No, neither was I.

I liked this episode, they didn't rely on a stupid deus ex machina to fix everything like the Tennant era, and what they did use had been explained years ago anyway, so it wasn't that bad.

Also they mentioned the State of Grace circuits!

I actually really disliked Tennant: the first Doctor who was annoying enough that I stopped watching. Not even Peter Davison or Colin Baker managed that!

I started Doctor Who with Smith, and I kind of like him because of that 'Genius with light hearted insanity' touch of his. I'd like to go back, but BBCA really shows the 11th doctor episodes ;-;

Wow, I must be a minority here. David Tennant is my favorite Doctor since Tom Baker. The one I really disliked was Sylvester McCoy. I wasn't fond of Colin Baker either, but I prefer him to his successor.

All that said, I think Matt Smith plays a very good Doctor and I look forward to seeing more of him.

I think Matt Smith is the best Doctor since Tom Baker. That said, I thought last night's episode was a bit stupid in places, especially the way Hitler was depicted. Overall I enjoyed it though.

I loved it, but then I'm a huge fan of the whole River Song storyline. It was the Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead episodes that got me into Doctor Who in the first place. I generally prefer Moffat over Davies in the writing department as well, although RTD did write one of my favourite episodes (Midnight).

@.FallOut3. As others have said, there are too many ongoing plots for you to be able to jump in now and understand/enjoy what is going on. At the very least I would suggest catching up from the beginning of Matt Smith's time as the Doctor (5th season), but it would be better to go back to the beginning of the modern-Who timeline if you have the funds for DVD box sets, or if you can get hold of the episodes another why

I love Ten, and David Tennant is [censored] brilliant, but I'm biased towards Eleven; he was my first, so I naturally think of him as "The Doctor."

Jon Pertwee was my first: I remember being terribly upset when he "died" and this daft curly-haired yobbo took his place. How could he possible be anything like as good?! I eventually warmed to Tom Baker's infectious style though.

Nice. Tom Baker is actually the only old series doctor I've seen; not a big fan of most of what I've seen of him, but "The City of Death" is probably one of the best serials/episodes I've seen.

I would definitely recommend starting with Christopher Ecclestone. The one series he did was awesome , imho. He was the only Doctor to seem like a real alien, all the others are a tiny little bit too human for me.
I am definitely showing my age, I have some very vague memories of Patrick Troughton.

Patrick Troughton was before my time; I remember watching a few re-runs on satellite telly back in the '90s and they always seemed a bit bizarre and psychotic for my tastes... :o

Same, though I first watched Pertwee's stuff on repeats in about 1997.

They're very trippy and very awesome. :P

I love the new episode's under Steven Moffat I prefer his writing to Davies any day but that episode wasn't as good as some of them, The one with the pirates was definately the worst this series but Let's kill hitler was definately not as good as Day of the moon or some of the other episodes.

I came into Doctot Who at Christopher Eccleston I thought David Tennant was an improvement but then he got boring so I was glad when Matt Smith took over, I've looked back on a few of the old doctors and I'd definately say that William Hartnell was the most alien, the Doctor has become less Alien as the series went on, then became more so for eight and nine. That does seam weird though considering to begin with at least the doctor wasn't meant to seam alien just eccentric.
