lock pick

It would be great if they made lockpicking in real time and make broken lockpicks make noise which will attract unwanted attention to you.
That way lot of those perks in the tree will start to make sense and become very useful and worthy of spending perks on.

As someone who finds the lockpicking pretty easy (lots of practice at the similar system in Fallout:New Vegas), I wouldn't mind some ideas like that to make it more challenging and interesting. But...... unless they made the contents of the chests equally interesting, why bother. Oh, another generic weapon or piece of armor that isn't nearly as good as anything I've got already or have made for myself... ho-hum. When dungeon/chest loot actually becomes interesting and has a chance of replacing what I already use, then I'll get excited about the whole lockpicking/chest business. Till then, it's mostly just another method to help level up my char. The whole item/loot system in Skyrim is just broken and pretty much removes the excitement from picking open a chest or looting your kills. All most of it is ever good for is just converting into more gold at the vendor.
