I have a question about the game, my nephew has been iritating me about it ever since he saw a commerical on this a few years back and hasn't gone quiet about it.

From what I hear it is free to play, but do you still have to buy it or can you just download it? (I'm a cheapskate, go figure.)

Right, guess I have a free going away present to give my nephew. (He doesn't need to know that bit, though... :shifty: )

Anyone on Brandywine feel free to add my Champion, Teraphor.

I'm on Brandywine. Using 3/9 characters there are the moment. My main is Gorlaran, then the other two I've been using are Galdiror and Kosioinimili. I mostly play on weekends, and sporadically then. Sometimes during the week as well.

Oh and North, I want to get back into DDO, I plan on making a new half orc when I can get the time to actually play it again..on your server. But who knows when that'll be or if it'll happen. I have a hard time just playing LOTRO at the moment.

I have 6 characters on the Meneldor server, my highest being a level 61 Guardian named Radont. I would try to level him more but my computer is quite horrible at the moment so I have been working on my crafting, which I finally made to supreme master in the armourer profession. I am slowly working my way up the Metalsmith guild so I can make some nice gear without having to worry about getting those scholar journals in order to have a decent shot at making a critical piece of armour. On Landroval I have 2 characters, Terinwulf and Sindorlas, but they are not a very high level. Add Radont to your friend lists on Meneldor and I can make some armour for ya, or just hang out in my house at 6 Chestnut Street, Greyfeld, Bree-land Homesteads.

Pity this isn't a double-XP weekend like last weekend was; that would've helped. :P Unfortunately leveling in LotRO really seems to slow down once you hit lvl 15, so I'm not sure how well that plan's going to work. (At least it slows way down for Warden and Hunter...I swear it took forever to get Celethelel to level 20. Now leveling's picking up again; I've gone from level 34 to almost 37 in nothing flat.) If you rush through a bunch of quests and plow through some higher level mobs you might almost make it.

Out of curiosity, why the rush to 25?

It depends on where you go honestly, for me lv 1-60 is fairly fast. Only slowing down a bit once you hit 58-59. 60-65 seems like it takes forever but with so many quest options it really isn't that long. On my LM I went from lv 49-52 just doing Volume 1 book 9-15. Sure it took a couple of days but that's an optional 30 quests right alongside the 80 or so other optional quests for that level range. It's pretty crazy how many quests there are. I really disliked the double XP weekend cause I was leveling too fast and I don't want to out level Moria before I get there.

In that case, I'd say just hitting level 20 is cool enough. That's when skirmishes and the Great Barrow runs start opening up.

Finally got around to this (After some extremely annoying issues with account creation that devolved into me contacting tech support for a key <_<). I was skeptical at first, but after some thorough research, it doesn't seem like a bad deal at all. Sure, quite a bit of content isn't available free, but I like the Turbine Points system idea (Although accumulating them is probably a slower process than I think). If that becomes a problem, $9 a month is a steal for an above average MMO. I can even directly buy the Turbine Points, so I like the options here.

As for the game itself, it's fun so far. It runs incredibly smoothly on my meh PC, letting me run on just below maximum settings. The only problem I foresee is finding people who will consistently play with me and form groups to quest with. I'm not a big fan of soloing in online games, since it ruins the entire point. If I wanted to be alone in a massive world, I'd play Morrowind.

However, I also can't guarantee I'll be on that often. I've got temptations for both Diablo 2 Median XL and Morrowind, and..well..you can imagine how much that would cut into my LOTRO time. Hopefully I can at least keep myself focused on this for a bit.

Also, any tips as far as Turbine Point spending goes? Me and my dad are sharing the same account, so I need to know some good general things to buy with the points, aside from the obvious quest packs.

You'll definitely want to get the riding skill (95TP), which is a per character purchase. Likewise with trait slots, although you'll only have to buy them one at a time at a certain level.

Other useful purchases for me as F2P/premium, besides the quest packs (duh), have been extra inventory bags, currency cap removers, vault storage expansions, and the ability to post items on the Auction Hall. All of those are per account unlocks, which is nice, as they're the more expensive purchases I've made. Quest packs are per account, too.

Which server are you on, btw? If you're on Crickhollow, I've found that people there are generally pretty good about helping one another out on fellowship quests. Plus I'd always be willing to lend a hand, although with my main now at level 38, I might just steamroll all the mobs for you. :P

I had a lot of trouble at early levels in grouping up and asking for help on quests. My own stubbornness at work, I guess. ;) That changed around the time I joined my kinship and got to know some of the other players better. Just give it some time--most of the early quests are easily solo'able, which helps you settle into the game.

Thanks a bunch for the tips. As for my server, I just went with the default one selected for me, Riddermark. I'll gladly switch to Crickhollow if it is indeed better. I'll start seriously playing tomorrow morning, so here's to a good experience. :foodndrink:

And yeah, I'm not a big fan of traveling with characters who are a much higher level than me. Back when I played the WoW trial, my brother insisted on rushing me through the quests with his level 80 characters, and I had absolutely no fun while he killed every single mob in one hit.

Another Crickhollow player here. Hit level 20 yesterday and promptly bought the riding skill with points and a horse, then levelled up twice more. Those skirmishes provide a lot of XP.

Be on the lookout for Braxblod the level 22 Man Burglar(That sounds so very wrong). I'll give ya some leather armor if you use light or medium stuff. And if you're a crafter in need of metal/wood let me know too.
