By lore, who won the civil war?

Maybe they'll pull a more advance form of a dragon break;

time retcon, civil war never happened + miracle of peace.

well considering what happens with the DB quests which could throw the empire into further disarray as a grab for power will happen I think the stormcloaks will more than likely begin to win with some kind of peace found in between as the Aldmeri threat becomes more escalated. Though it would be more interesting for the imperials to lose the war as it would intensify the situations of the admeri invasion even further which in these types of games with such themes is just lore gold.

In a DLC, all the Jarls will be replaced by friendly dragons.

Actually I'd be more interested in seeing if the Blades or Greybeard path is canon

Spoiler
Mainly because of Paarthurnax trying to tame other dragons anger.

I have a theory that regardless of the outcome of the Civil War, the moot will appoint Balgruuf as High King, and he'll patch things up with the Empire/the Stormcloaks, and govern Skyrim as nominally part of the Empire but in practice largely autonomous. Thus lore won't record either side as having won, but say something like, "At this time, Skyrim was rent by a bloody civil war, until unity was restored under the reign of High King Balgruuf."

I would be more interested in the blades just finally fading from existence all together especially after this game.

Hopefully, the course of the war will be "The Empire and the Stormcloaks discovered what the Thalmor were up to, established a truce and alliance and the entire Empire invaded the Summerset Isle, crushed the Thalmore, and re-established order. Then crushed the Thalmor some more, just for good measure."

I like this idea! Silly Thalmor... :nono:

Empire becomes a federation, that is Ulfric rules Skyrim more or less independently but Imperial soldiers keep peace and Empire collects the taxes.

Well there has to be one outcome..canon is canon. Did the Imperials or the Stormcloaks win? Or will they play it off and just refer to it as a civil dispute? I don't really know how Bethesda can clean this mess up without really just breaking lore.

Lore has to be something that would not reveal whether Tullius or Ulfric won their little battle. Something will happen that makes Tullius v Ulfric irrellevant, and so history will not even record it.

Which makes one wonder why the hell they bothered including it in the first place. :stare:

I can appreciate the fact that in order to maintain continuity they need to only have one outcome for any given conflict, but if they're going to write in a potentially game-changing civil war then they shouldn't downplay who won, as it makes a (potentially literal) world of difference.

If I had to guess as to the direction they'll take it I'd say the Stormcloaks will win, as it's pretty clear that they're setting the Empire up to finally implode.

That's pretty unrealistic.

"The leaders in the civil war were Ulfric and Tulius. After some prilimary victories for both sides they were eventually both killed in battle. Then *Insert canon winner* united the people of Skyrim once again and lead them against the *insert new external danger*."

"Canon" wise (I really hate the concept btw), all I can say is that it's more epic if I fight Ulfric. It doesn't make for a cool story (in my eyes) if you have two Thu'um users on the victor's side. He needs to duel another person capable of shouting. That's how I see him.

Ahh yeah, I forgot Ulfric can shout.
Can any other NPC's shout? Other than the obvious Greybeards.

Anyway, I'm fully expecting a dragon break of some sort. Or maybe the next game will be set so far into the future that all records of the civil war in Skyrim are lost, missing or destroyed. Kind of like RL's lost history.

i think it depends on just how big a roll the Aldmeri Dominion are to play in TES VI or dlc as to where thy go in regards to the civil war quest line in lore

Regarding the Thalmor, I hope the Dovahkiin gets to dispatch them in a DLC, I don't think I want another game with them. Maybe they are destined to go the way of the Dwemer. Ahh, one can hope eh. ^^
