Losing faith in Bethesda

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 12:19 am

I started fallout3 new vegas and got bored during the character creation process. it would be nice if we could just pick a class with preset talents and skills. talking to the old doc and doing his phsyco therapy session felt like i was having my arm twisted to answer those dumb questions. Then the boring acting, the npc's feel like i could have a better conversation with a robot. Do they bother to put any creativity into these games. get rid of these guys who are just in it for the pay check and get some real creative talent making these games.

This game was made by Obsidian

And if you were really expecting to be enthralled while "creating your character" you really have something wrong with you.

First, it's Obsidian, not Bethesda.

Secondly, that's a heck of a thing to say about some of the most respected developers in RPG history. :shakehead:

1. Bethesda Game Studios did not develop this game
2. How can you say a game is boring/unimaginative after only the beginning?
3. Have you played any of the Fallout games? The great thing about character builds in the Fallout series is that you can make your own. It doesn't take too much thinking or imagination to come up with a build and pick Traits/Perks that revolve around it.

Bethesda did not make the game, and your complaints have nothing to do with "creativity" And as Junkie said, you expect Char. Creation to be enthralling every time through?

PS: also its Fallout: New Vegas, not Fallout 3 New Vegas

Though to be fair, in Fallout 1 at least (I can't remember Fallout 2), they did have character presets, like the Max Stone preset for example.

But even so, I never recall any character creation introduction to be enthralling at the least. That part svcks. Try holding on and you'll probably be captivated. If not, then...gee, that svcks. :(

Actually, I've always loved the Fallout character creation process, but then again my introduction to hardcoe RPGs was tabletop gaming way back in my younger days ;)

Fighter, Stealth, and a Diplomat. Nearly same format in Fallout 2 as well.

That say, not Bethesda but Obsidian, not Fallout 3 New Vegas but Fallout New Vegas, and the chances the second NPC ya talk to is a Robot.

Give it time and let the game sink in. Ya will enjoy it and build ya character from there.

Some people get frustrated making a character, I get that. Not everyone can be like me and spend a hour or 2 making the character for them. On fallout 2 they did have presets, with a story and everything. I get that some people want to have a preset like on Mass Effect. Honestly on Fallout 3 and NV, I can really never get my guy looking how I want him to, always looking different on the creation screen then in the world. Just would be nice if they updated the creation some, like I mentioned Mass Efffect, they have a perfect character creation. But what's it matter, we hardly see our guy anyways and most the time he or she, will have a helmet on lol =)

To the OP just trade the game in and get a shooter or whatever you fancy... From the sound of your post you don't want to give the game a chance and are looking for every reason to hate the game, so there's no point in coming here and moaning....

That was my thought. I always made my own character, and I thought the whole question/answer thing was really getting close to the original FO/2 layout. :D

I started fallout3 new vegas

I'm sorry, but you just lost your credibility right there.

Also, this isn't the Elder Scrolls where there is a class system. Fallout has never had classes and probably never will

Pre-made characters in the previous games don't count as classes. They're basically the same thing as Doc Mitchell or the teacher in Vault 101 pre-assigning your tag skills for you before you decide to change them if you do.

You sir are my favorite person I've ever seen on the internet... IG88 is awsome. He needed more movie time and was awsome to fight in that N64 Starwars game... just can't remember the name of it. (Like the best Starwars game ever...!)

OT: Yeah the OP doesn't sound like much of a RPG fan if complaining that there should be preset classes. The beauty of these games especially the ones Obsidian and Bethesda come out with is that you play them your specific way... Be evil, be good, be a bi-polar cerial killing maniac who likes collecting pencils... It's all on you.

This topic isn't even worth reading. The OP hasn't done enough research to know whom he is criticizing, let alone what to criticize them about.

How far have you gotten into the game actually?

The voice acting is wonderful.

The voice acting is good, and the free form characture creator imo is good. Char creation has never been exciting really but the OP as stated earlier has done no research and I doubt has even play'd the game. At any rate this topic should proberly be locked seeing as the OP has appeared to abandonned this post.

I believe the voice acting is excellent. When I walked up to Easy Pete I expected the same old high pitched old man voice from FO3. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised. Even more so when I found out that not every old man in the game sounded like that either.

EDIT: Although I do miss Lucien Lachance aka Mr. Burke
