MY LUCK!

Post » Fri Dec 09, 2011 7:04 am

So I bought a brand new $300 hdtv to play my ps3 and skyrim on. I've never had an hdtv before and I haven't even really played skyrim yet (only like an hour). I get home, clean up the basemant rec room. My dad comes to make sure I cleaned the basemant. (I'm 20 and still dealing with this [censored]... Trying to move out, but I can't afford a house yet). I turn on my ps3 for the first time in HD, and 2 seconds later my dad goes to leave and snags the ps3 with his pajama's and the ps3 tips over and YELLOW LIGHT OF DEATH.... :cold: ... :swear: FML! I hate you Murphy and your damn law! Could my luck get any worse? I mean really? I patiently wait to play skyrim, work hard and get a decent tv, all to have my dad brick my ps3???? If there is a god, I'm his punching bag, I swear it.

Could any one else share their bouts of terrible luck to make me fell better :(

Could be worse, he could have knocked over your new TV instead.

It was, but I took apart the ps3 to get it out.

Yeah, that'll definitely help your situation. And I'm sorry, but I can't sympathize with your first world problems. lol

Just because I'm not some starving poor kid in Africa with aids means I'm not allowed to be mad about my problems? Is that what your saying? Everyone strives to better their lives, no matter what kind of country they're in, and when crap happens, people get mad, and complain. I don't vent often, and everyone needs to complain once in a while. Sheesh.

And while I do have sympathy for the less fortunate in the world, there's nothing I, personally, can do for them.

You can be mad, but you aren't God's punching bag.

Maybe his razor, or nail clippers.

There's plenty you can do about the third world, though. That $300 you spent on your HDTV could have fed a family for a long time. But everyone is entitled to the luxuries he earns, as long as he doesn't go overboard. You can feel guilty when you buy a $1,000 HDTV.

If I had $20,000 dollars in the bank, I'd have no problem giving $300 directly to a poor family, but only if I could do it myself. What's the point of writing a check to some charity, when you don't even know where the money goes? It would be more rewarding to me to give the money directly and being able to see how it changes their lives, but that will never happen, so I'd rather enjoy my money and help support jobs by buying things for myself. Spending money isn't evil, even on yourself. Hoarding it is, because it does no good for anyone else.

I'm sure Echo's already upset about his PS3 getting broken, I don't think we need to make him feel worse because he's not feeding starving families in Africa. :)

Anyway, couldn't you just get your dad to pay for a new PS3? Sounds like it's his fault it broke, after all.

He said he'd give me $50 to get it repaired... I paid $500 dollars for mine in 2008 or 09... Repairs are going to cost a minimum of $100-150 and at that point, I might as well buy a new one.... I bought the TV because I wanted to buy one nice thing for myself before I leave for college while I'm busting my ass at my temp job working 5am-1pm. I'm trying really hard to save the rest of my money for college expenses, then this happened! Its just complete and utter frustration!

That seems really unfair to me. If he broke it, he should pay the full cost to get it fixed or replaced.

To be fair, my parents don't have a lot of money either. They have good paying jobs, but they made the mistake of getting deep into debt.

The worst part about it for me, was this happened 20 seconds into turning on my ps3 for the first time with HD. I was just about to play skyrim, then BAM! TV said No single, and the red light was flashing on the ps3 and it wouldn't turn on any longer.

I've even tried taking the entire ps3 apart and heating up with a hair drier CPU and GPU just incase it was the soldering on them that cracked and created a bad connection to the mother board. I think what it wrecked was the power supply, but I can't say for sure.

I don't think that would help soldering very much. :P
What exactly happened? Your description was pretty poor. From what I gather he grabbed his PJs from under the PS3 and knocked it over? I don't get it.

It sounds like the PS3 was sitting vertically, his dad walked past it and part of his clothes latched onto it somehow.

I saw tons of youtube videos of people showing how to use a hair dryer to melt the soldering and fixing a bad connection between the processors and the motherboard. What happened was my dad was wearing PJs, the ps3 was on the floor, standing up flush with the tv stand (I do this because the cats sit on it if its flat) anyway my dad walks by the ps3 and his PJs got caught on the corner of the ps3 and tipped it over and it slammed onto the concrete floor. Thus my yellow light of death :(

A hair dryer definitely wouldn't produce anywhere near enough heat to reflow the solder. A heatgun probably would, but that's something I don't recommend unless you know exactly what you're doing.

Ah, that makes sense. Are PS3s really that fragile? Sheesh. There's not much you can do man, you'll need to scrounge up the money to buy a new one. It's some coincidentally frustrating timing, but...Well there's no but. That just svcks.

Can't you take it somewhere to find out what is wrong with it? Or is this just some imagination of mine that would make dealing with these things a bit easier.

At least it wasn't an Xbox. That would've destroyed the disc as well.

Too bad xbox 360's weren't built as stable as the original. Neither the PS3 or the 360 is as durable as the wii though. I have dropped that thing countless times from varying heights and it still runs fine.

Actually, no. I broke the warranty seal and no one will even repair it now. I did this to take my game out, and I didn't know at the time that I wouldn't be able to get it repaired if it I did.
