LulzSec takes down Eve Online, Minecraft and League of Legen

"Following yesterday’s Bethesda incursion, and earlier attacks on the likes of Sony and Nintendo, hacker collective Lulzsec have targeted further games and gaming services today. Over the last couple of hours, they’ve taken out first Eve Online and then Minecraft’s login servers, as well as knocking out gaming site The Escapist.

This seems to have stemmed from Lulzsec’s open call for target suggestions on Twitter earlier today, which itself followed their takedown of The Escapist in response to negative comments threads about them there.

Both games are offline for the time being (edit- Minecraft appears to be working again for now). Minecraft’s site is still up as I write, but Eve’s is not. CCP have confirmed that “EVE Online and related services are currently offline, to return ASAP after investigation of some issues.” The prevailing sentiment has it that these are DDoS attacks, which may mean the games can come back online relatively soon.

Lulzsec are referring to this on Twitter as ‘TitanticTakeoverTuesday‘ and claim they’re still going through requests – so one can only presume this is not over yet."

I wanna see them try Blizzard....not condoning what they do, I wanna see them get shut out and not be able to do it. They're annoying me with the amount of worry they cause some people.

When wasn't it?

It was tolerable when they were doing it to expose security problems and being generally grey hat about it. Now that they're just knocking down random websites for the fun of it it's pissing everyone off.

Its just ridiculous they can do as they please without any repercussions. I mean they have a freaking twitter account for crying out loud and we still can't find these people?

Now I'm a bit confused...What's the point here? Weren't they originally some off shade of white hat hackers? And now they're just falling back to script kiddie DDoS attacks? Whatever Robinhood esque appeal they had has completely gone away for all but the hardcoe (socially inept and or anti social) of the *chan folk. They should quit while they're still (barely) ahead.

Typically I don't have a problem with hackers, but these Lulzsec people are just anti-social idiots that want to be the center of attention. Perhaps, they should do something constructive with their "skill" instead of hacking random companies.

Their just doing it because they think it's funny. Nothing really redeeming about them.

We should form a Council of Responsible Nerds, condemning these reactionary types and calling for a a coalition in which Jocks will beat up the perpetrators for us.

I wonder how long before some of these people realize that "trolling" is actually a form of antisocial personality disorder/Conduct Disorder? The punishment for these buffoons should be a prompt appointment for a psychiatric evaluation and a large amount of medication...

They say they do it to raise awareness about companies with bad security (and for teh lulz) but at this point it looks mostly like they just want the attention.

In my country, if they think you're a danger but don't actually have any evidence to charge you with an offence, they can just put you under house arrest without trial and take your computer and telephone equipment away from you. Seems like a fitting punishment in this case.

But do we even know where these guys are? Seems like they're US based, but maybe not.

It'd be nice if they came out and said they'd hacked the Mob, and were turning over the evidence of where Jimmy Hoffa's buried to the authorities..

But noooo, they don't have the stones for that..
