Making Skyrim Better

Post » Thu Jun 28, 2012 5:03 am

I personally am glad that Bethesda invested the time to add and enhance new features within the game. (i.e. Mounted Combat / Better Underwater Visuals / Extended Kill Cams)
I was watching a video which featured the Skyrim team having a week of making new features which lead to some being used within patches and "Dawnguard" (DLC).

Here's my suggestions on what I'd like to see in the game in the future patches / DLC.
  • Snow Footsteps.
  • Flails & Spears.
  • Building & Customizing Homes (Further).
  • Having Children & Raising Them To Be Warriors / Companions.
  • Riding Dragons.
  • Becoming King / Queen & Strategizing & Battles With Surrounding Nations. (i.e. Cyrodiil / Hammerfell / High Rock / Morrowind)
  • Ability To Rebuild Winterhold.
  • Scars & Bleeding on Face & Body Which Heals Over Time. (From Battles)
  • Separated Top & Bottom Armors.
  • Various Combat Moves With The Shield.
Just some ideas which I think would make the game even more beautiful.

What's your thoughts?

Snow Footsteps.

While this would be a nice graphics addition I can see why it's not there, seems like it would be very complicated. They'd have to appear and then disappear over time and if they didn't disappear (or their disappearance wasn't matched up to the current in-game weather) people would just complain about that. Not to mention the fact that they'd have to be there and work for every single person and creature that moves around in the snow otherwise that would also become another thing for people to complain about. The lack of prints in the snow is hardly game breaking and adding them would be a visual plus only and it would turn into a negative if it didn't work exactly the way people wanted every time they expected them to be there.

Flails & Spears.

Spears might actually be cool.

Building & Customizing Homes (Further)

  • Would be nice but personally I'd rather see fixes and expansions to the existing player homes first, as well as something that made it much easier to decorate them manually without having to work around the current issues.

  • Having Children & Raising Them To Be Warriors / Companions.

  • No. Just no. Adoption, maybe, but a lot of people play female characters and pregnancy does not go well with adventuring. I have no interest in spending nine in-game months waiting around for a child to be born, or waiting around for them to grow up so I can train them to be followers.

  • Actually the idea of having children for the express purpose of raising them to serve as pack mules and meat shields is kinda icky IMO. Even a collection of pixels designed to represent a child has a right to more self-determination than that once they grow up.

  • Riding Dragons.

  • Why? The game world isn't that big so there's no pressing need for that kind of transportation. And you'd be limited by the fact that game design and mechanics don't allow dragons to land anywhere they (or you) want. Also these are intelligent and independent creatures, not domesticated service animals. You're not gonna ride a dragon without his express consent and you're not gonna "break" him like you would a horse to circumvent that. There would have to be a significant reason presented why a creature of that nature suddenly decided to allow you to use him like your own personal chartered airline.

  • Becoming King / Queen & Strategizing & Battles With Surrounding Nations. (i.e. Cyrodiil / Hammerfell / High Rock / Morrowind)

Might be interesting to some players who play Nord characters, but a non-Nord King/Queen of Skyrim would be unrealistic IMO. Even a Nord Dovahkiin has no legitimate claim to that position as long as there are members of the existing Nord nobility still around to claim it.

  • Ability To Rebuild Winterhold.

Yeah, being able to do something about Winterhold would be nice.

  • Scars & Bleeding on Face & Body Which Heals Over Time. (From Battles)

Could be interesting for those that want it.

  • Separated Top & Bottom Armors.

I'll pass, my inventory is crowded enough as it is.

  • Various Combat Moves With The Shield.

Lol, it's all I can do to remember to block with the damn thing. I do get a lot of nice killcams for it though.

Snow Footsteps: This would cause a lot of problems and complaints from people saying that the footsteps don't disappear fast enough or they disappear to fast. they would also need to make different footsteps for different types of boots, races, and every single animal. This would be a ton of work for something that hardly makes a difference.

Flails and Spears: That would be pretty cool.

Building and Customization of Homes: That would be pretty sweet as well.

Having Children and Making Them Companions: I would like to have this, but how long would it take for them to become an advlt? What about the people who play female characters? What if you're playing a nord and marry a khajiit. Which race is the kid?

Riding Dragons: No. Horses are enough.

Becoming King and Queen and Strategizing and Battling with Surrounding Nations: I would love this

Ability to Rebuild Winterhold: I haven't gotten to this point in the game, so I dont really have an opinion

Seperate Tops and Armors: This is how it was in Oblivion (If I remember correctly) and it was extremely irritating.

Various Combat Moves with the Shield: It's fine how it is.

One thing that irritates me is the inventory menu. It would be nice if it were organized better. One example would be potions. How about having all poisons with poisons, health and healing together...etc.

How about improving the NPC AI first? Both Hostiles and Friendlies are pretty lacking in the smarts department.

That's a nice list and all, but...

... finding the source to game freezes and adding a useful map are two which belong at the top of all these lists.

Just sayin'.

I really can't find anything I want right now...
Oh I do !

Make the AI much better , people riding their horses at morning , people lighting fires , bandits sneak to the city , carriages riding supplying wood / food , bandit raids on horses , people flirting with female characters , the ability to become a drunk beggar , much more..

I just want the improved follower interface from the gamejam. The fact that you can make non-archers (people without default bows) better than rangers is just silly.

Also, in fallout3 you could tell them what to use (ranged or melee). I'd like that too. Other than that..?

i dunno, most of the things listed are fine.... in other games. Rebuild a city? There's a game for that. Epic wars? Game for that. Etc...

Other than improved followers and more stuff (spears... pfft. I just want a weapon staff) are nice, but I'd honestly prefer a dedicated bug fix patch to any of that.

  • Snow Footsteps.
  • No - too much processing taken up and too many variables, amount/duration.
  • Flails & Spears.
  • Maybe spears
  • Building & Customizing Homes (Further).
  • It's not second life
  • Having Children & Raising Them To Be Warriors / Companions.
  • See above, and - just no
  • Riding Dragons.
  • Why?
  • Becoming King / Queen & Strategizing & Battles With Surrounding Nations. (i.e. Cyrodiil / Hammerfell / High Rock / Morrowind)
  • It's not command and conquer
  • Ability To Rebuild Winterhold.
  • See above
  • Scars & Bleeding on Face & Body Which Heals Over Time. (From Battles)
  • That is actually a good idea but you have to bear in mind average processing power of PCs/Consoles
  • Separated Top & Bottom Armors.
  • Ok, I'll give you that
  • Various Combat Moves With The Shield.
  • Meh
Just some ideas which I think would make the game even more beautiful.

1: I would like to see the foot prints in the snow. It can last at max 5 sec for each 5 feet.

2: I would like to have more weapon variety types in Skyrim.

3: I would like too be able to build my own home in a location outside of a hold.

4: Having children would give a purpose too getting married in the game. And it would be cool being able too train them in something you are strong at. Like Destruction, or Archery.

5: Yes. I would love to rain down destruction from a Dragon.

6: I would rather become Jarl of my own hold. Being a Jarl of my own hold would be a fitting reward for saving the planet from Alduin.

7: Yes. I hate how you have those locations that got destroyed before and after some of the quest and they haven't got rebuilt yet. I would like too rebuild Helgen and expened it out. And make it my own fort, or hold. Having my own hold would be a fitting reward for saving the planet from Alduin.

8: Sure. But I would rather have Fallout style damage. It doesn't have too be bloody, but. I would like to have damage show up on people and be able to cut their limbs off.

9: Just like how it was in Morrowind. I would like that so I can mix up armors better.

10: I don't use the sheild so I don't care.

giving us the option to turn off the compass

giving us the option to turn off essential npc's after the main quest is over

making children dissapear from the game if you kill their parents or caretakers in the game

being able to dodge to the right or left if the sprint button is held in either direction (beacause you cant sprint to the side)

more spell viarety

moving foliage like in that video bethesda did at dice

fat npc's (just make some of the npc's fat)

The only purpose I see of it is a way to get money. Other than that it's pretty pointless. It is a good thing to have for role playing and what not. But it is still a pointless feature when nothing but money comes out of it.

Welll from a mechanics standpoint you get +15% exp for sleeping with your spouse. Marry a follower, and that's more or less a permanent bonus to exp. Add in a stone (for exp) such as the mage stone (if you're a mage etc...) and that's +35% exp.

You level insanely fast this way. You can get to 35+ in like 20 hours.

Insanely fast leveling = Grinding
Grinding = Not healthy way to play.

I thought Skyrim doesn't use the EXP leveling system? I thought the only way to level up was by increasing the skills.

But that's the thing. It IS healthy. That's what my doctor says. He says, "sleeping with Uthgerd every time you see a bed is very good for you."

You get "points" for using a skill, depending on how/what etc.. it takes a certain number of them to level up. For example 15 iron daggers at smithing 20. So with lover's comfort you only have to make 10 or so.

That said, we both know you already know this. :)
