Maven Black-Briar has too much power

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 4:47 am

I must be the only person who never had assassins come after me - on either of my characters. I took the DB out fairly soon on my 1st character and joined them fairly early on on my 2nd one, but I'm sure I pissed a few people off before I got around to those two points.

FWIW: in Fallout 3 I had plenty of Talon Co come after me.

Strange. This game has to be the most "variable" one I've ever played. On nearly every toon I've played more than just a level or two, I've had assassins out of NOWHERE - by level 3.... and continuing. Now, believe me, I haven't ever done ANYTHING TO ANYONE at level 3 - bandit extermination, draugr wiping.... that's it. Haven't been near Riften. Haven't TOUCHED the TG or DB. Haven't even done the MQ starters. But EVERY toon has to fend off assassins.... every one of whom is carrying that note signed by Astrid.... And you wonder WHY I choose later to wipe out the DB?

Yep. I've never seen the Headless Horseman and others see him every night. :P And, people will hate me for this one, I've had no problems with Blood on the Ice in 2 playthroughs and on one of them I did 2 of the huge things that are supposed to break it...Pre-1.4. :o

I've never seen the HH on any one of my very LARGE multitude of toons.

Depends. On the toon, mostly.... some toons yes, I FT on them, if they're done with "local flavor" stuff. But mostly, no, I don't.... I tend to wander the countryside....

I've been doing that more and more at night lately because I want to see that damn Headless Horseman. I probably need to spend more time around Falkreath. :P

LOL I seen the Headless Horseman while I was in the process of doing the civil war quest. I wanted to follow him so bad but I was already busy fighting off the imperials and taking control of a fort. I had the http://images.wikia.com/familyguy/images/1/1d/Petarded.PNG moment :D

Yeah, I would've probably failed that quest to chase him. :o

I came that close to doing exactly that  I figured how can I explain to the boss why I flee from the battle zone to chase some spirit horseman.

Oh and checkout http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Headless_Horseman and scroll down to location. Not sure how reliable his schedule is but it wouldn't hurt to try it out

"Hey, there goes some suspicious guy. I think he's wearing legion armor and he's carrying a satchel and hiding his face. I'll BRB."

Yeah, I'm gonna' check that schedule a bit probably - came across that the other day. :P

I ran into the headless horseman outside of Falkreath as I was heading out to look for Angi's place. He ran right by me. I ran into some bandits, died in battle, restarted and saw him again. This happened 3 times in a row. I tried to follow him one of those times, but he's fast. He runs like a chicken with his head cut off. Heh.

As for Maven- I guess I haven't dealt with her too much. I did the TG questline, but avoided her, for the most part. I guess I never really found Riften that appealing. My current character may do the DB questline, but we'll see. I may avoid doing any of them questlines. Dunno.

Same here. Latest toon a mage, avoiding most things, just hanging around Riverwood. Finally decide to tell the Jarl about some dragon I saw in Helgen, and was accosted by an assassin between Riverwood and the meadery.

Also, I decided I wanted that bound bow, so I made a bee-line at level 5 to Fort Amol. That was a blast, using Fury. Leaving the place three hired thugs attacked. Who sent them? A bandit! Still scratching my thatch on that one.

And about the HH: I saw him ONCE, on my first toon, briefly, near Karthwasten (I think that's the mining settlement, right?) as I gained the main road, but for some reason I was preoccupied and did not follow him.

...Bro, you're the Dragonborn, and you say Maven Black-Briar has too much power? You could FUS RO DAH her off High Hrothgar without batting an eyelash.

I don't mind the Black Briars that much, the Silverblood family from Markath are way bigger jerks

I had a similar experience as well. I was just finishing off the mercenaries at the Goldenglow Estate after completing the Thieves Guild quest there when I was ambushed by the hired thugs. On the contract it was signed: "Black-Briar Mercenary" It makes me laugh really. That A ) he was doing this from beyond the grave and B )he signs himself like that.

As for the other events, I think it heavily relies on how much you fast-travel. Most of the time I won't fast travel at all, and I get a huge amount of encounters. I must have been ambushed by the DB about 6 times now, seen M'aiq at least 4, seen about 10 Imperial/Thalmor patrols and 4 or 5 Vigilant of Stendarr patrols.

At least the Silverbloods don't bottle pee and call it mead. The Black-Briars' pseudo-legitimate income comes from doing just that.

Yes.

Like this:
Spoiler
Get the quest for the Aretino kid Innocence Lost, kill Grelod the Kind, wait for the "We Know." letter from a Courier, sleep, and in the Abandoned Shack kill Astryd instead of one of the 3 marks - you'll know what to do from there.

At least the Silverbloods don't bottle pee and call it mead.

Actually, opinions are divided on that. Mercer Frey is the only one who insults the mead's quality; Nords who mention it (Roggi Knot-Beard and the carriage drivers) love it, except the revelers, who are Honningbrew snobs.

There is a note that suggests that Black-Briar Reserve may be regular mead in a new bottle, but the note which mentions this is from Indaryn, who, considering his attitude towards his workers ("Why don't they listen to me...?"), may be harshly rebuking them for a mistake.

And Black-Briar mead is good enough for the Greybeards.

The Silver-Blood's income comes from forced native labor. So...

Both the black briars and silverbloods are jerks. At least Maven is better since i am the head of the DB and thieves guild, so i dont really care. But the silverbloods jailed me for no reason. After i pwned madonnach's ass, i murdered those silverbloods(set thongvar's essential tag off, screw the civil war). Are those people from Silverblood Inn part of silverblood too? Because i want to root all silverbloods, but i might rather just massacre the entire Reach.
