Maven Black-Briar Supporters.. Are we in the minority?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 4:16 am

Many accuses Maven of having too much power in Riften. Power doesn't come without a price. Maven holds the key to which Riften is still standing. Her business, Black-Briar mead, is responsible for employing several of the Riften citizens so she is contributing to wealth and success of Riften.

The problem lays a head. She can easily intimidates the Jarl into doing her deeds. She even goes as far as to give specific order regarding to her son, Sibbi, being in jail.. and that the only person that is allow to release him is Maven herself. IMO that lacks leadership of Laila Law-Giver since she is suppose to be the law in Riften and it is her decisions whether or not he is free or stays in jail.

Although she sides with the empire because of her business I find her more suitable for Jarl position. It tears me apart knowing that right after the civil war under the stormcloaks that she is removed from this position and have this leaderless dupe Laila reassign her position.

This hardcoe Stormcloak supporter supports Maven :D

I don't like her snobbiness but I can respect her. She does actually have reason to be a snob.

Maven's character felt very shallow and underdeveloped to me. It's like inferred ability. The game always tells us she's smart and bleh but honestly, I can't find any logical fictional reason or an example of her being powerful. Then again, I have that issue with a LOT of characters in Skyrim, but Maven was really, really disappointing.

It's bad writing and bad, shallow characters. This is why I hate Maven. End of.

A majority of those blasted stromcloak Jarls are complete losers, Skald is a dike, That Law-Giver is a complete coward and political puppet, That Old guy who runs whiterun if it is taken by the Stormcloak is a idiot, That paranoid freak show in Faelkreath is also a dike, The only one who is worthy is Jarl ULFRIC( Whom I hate)

Maven should have been the Stormcloak's Jarl. I'd have no trouble swaping jarls in Riftem if this was the case.

Unfortunately Bethesda spent more time trying to release the game on such short notice (does 1/11/11 ring a bell to you? If that isn't a sales pitch then I don't know what is) then to actually put quality in the game and give it a decent story like a deserve.

Theirs so less choices that you can make in Skyrim and far less consequences that comes along with it.

Thank the divines that Bethesda is targeting people who actually have a vivid imagination. It prevents them from actually hiring decent writers if people use their imagine. Sad but true.

If I hadn't had this special gift of imagination I would've tossed skyrim into my recycling bin and permanently off of my hard drive.

I like Maven because she doesn't hesitate to take advantage of anything she can, and she does everything in her near limitless power to stop those who'd try to stop her. I can respect that. It's also nice to see a character that just takes the miserable conditions in Skyrim by the horns and swings it the hell around rather than most people who are just kinda sad and stuff.

I like Maven, and I prefer her to be Jarl. Laila Law-Giver is just too gullible (she listens to her corrupt advisor too much). My only problem with Maven is her penchant for snide remarks, but after seeing who she parties with, I can understand why she doesn't like a dirt-under-the-fingernails adventurer like me. Besides, she's seen every variety of fortune-seeker there is - and outlasted them all.

She may not be much more than a thug, but she's a successful thug, and that's a rarity. Girl power! :D

firstly, black-briar mead is [censored], so it brings no "success" to riften, secondly, employing "several" people doesn't constitute bringing in any substantial amount of wealth, definitely not when she i also draining the money out of everyone in the city.

I think she is a big [censored]ing b****, and I wish so hard that I could slaughter her and anybody that associates with her, but that would include suicide (damn my sticky fingers!). besides her being the ice queen, I can respect her business prowess and her absolute control over people, it's really an impressive little empire she's built.

She has power in the same way a Mafia Don has power. Her money comes from the Meadry yes but she also sabotages the competition so she can buy them out. And can have people thrown in or released form Jail on a whim. Or she'll hire the Dark Brotherhood to have that person eliminated.

Black-Briar mead is well-liked by many Nords, from the carriage drivers to Roggi Knot-Beard. The only people who don't seem to like it are the Honningbrew snobs and Mercer Frey.

The Stormcloak Jarls are a rather pathetic bunch, save Vignar, but it's conflicting there -- he seems competent, but some say he's going senile. There's also the oddity that he claims the people chose him as Jarl, but unless he took a quick poll while strolling through the ravaged Whiterun up to Dragonsreach to harass Balgruuf (or Hrongar), he's mistaken.

Come to think of it, there's actually a "ha ha, I was working for the enemy under your nose the entire time" scene for Maven and Thongvor Silver-Blood in the Creation Kit.

Maven is corrupt, Laila is a wimp. Lose-lose

Maven has zero contacts with the Dark Brotherhood (Night mother doesn't talk/listen). In the basemant is actually a dark sacrament with a note that Maven in pissed that nobody has done anything. And the Thieves Guild is absolutely nothing unless you help them.

If you don't intervene she doesn't have much power. And Laila means well.

Laila is not only a wimp, she has the typical self righteousness, condescending attitude of nobles.

The first time the player enters Mistveil keep, it's possible to hear a conversation between the jarl and her steward: she says something (about herself): "If a Dragon attack the town, it's fitting that the Jarl should survive". In other words, she's preparing an escape route thinking about her safety before that of the town or its citizens.

So much for a nord and pro-Stormcloacks too! I'm not saying all Jarls should be fearless and compassionate like Balgruuf the Greater or shrewd and wise the old Ravencrone but Laila is possibly the worst one, completely worthless too.

Shes as bad for Riften as the Silver Bloods are for Markath
Almost all the jarls are mostly concerned with wealth and power. Baalgruuf and Idgrod Ravencrone at least show signs of being genuinely concerned for the people of their hold but they still have no real vision for Skyrim as a whole
Ulfric is the only exception to this (although I'm not convinced by his vision but at least he has 1)

Even when yu are the Listener for the DB Maven will still say "Anger me and i call the dark brotherhood"...right at that moment i hit her arrogant son with a frenzy spell and watched as he stabbed her a couple times before being beaten to his knees by the guards. If i was n PC i would use the "no essential npc" mod and kill that [censored]

no...i kinda dont understand why people ( ie . men) get so pissed with her , i think its basically a domination thing , she kicks your ass and you can do nothing about it , but me (male) dont find that insulting at all , its nice to see a female npc owning some major ass .

the oddest thing is when i went into the bee and barb to tell her i had burned down all the bee hives...the way she was standing over the tabel in the semi-darkness was seriousley sinister and threatning , and i can honestly say i was more than a bit anxious about what she was going to do with me.

note : the thieves guildline for skyrim has , in my esteem , seriousley gone up in plotline and major chracter twists , the way i was tricked with karliah was so convincing, plus i really enjoyed the rich detail and animation the quests brought.

the only thing im gonna critisise on is this : nightgales

i think the armour , the hideout and the secrets were great for it , but it bugs me that previous to skyrim they never even exisisted ( unless im wrong) , surley if you became the grey fox of cyrodill you would of at least heard of them....?

+

WHERE WAS MY GREY FOX MASK HMMM?!
