Maybe i should stop wearing a helmet to bring more challenge

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 3:39 pm

After around level 50 enemies stop scaling with you so obviously, things are going to get easier.
Except Bandit Chiefs and Briar Hearts. They can still 3shot my level 58 assassin on Master. They're horrifying.

what? my level 30 hybrid kills in about 3 hits and is a tank.

only the random enemy (5%,whatever) can pull off the critical 1-shot kills.

on level 58 your character ISN'T at the max ac?

If i wear full armor its rating goes to 657, i am simply too powerfull then! :pinch: But if i don't wear a helmet it is 347...still quite alot but atleast there is more challenge.
What do you think?

Yes. Self gimping can make the game more enjoyable for high level characters. If you take off the helmet, you lose 25% bonus from matching set and 25% from well fitted on top of losing the helmet armor. If you feel too weak after doing this, you can take one more Juggernaut perk from the base of the tree. I also gimp my high level characters and it makes the game more fun. You can also try playing with lower damage weapons and wearing fewer enchanted items, if you are into that.

None of my characters have worn a helmet, ever, in ten years of playing the Elder Scrolls games.

There was another thread about this. Some Briarheart attacks seem to ignore armor altogether. I think it's only the kill move. This is more of problem for characters who invested less on Health. At level 60, you can be 100 Magicka: 700 Health: 100 Stamina, or 300:300:300. Or Some people will do 500:200:200. People who do this are more vulnerable to instadeath.

my argonian wears scaled armor, a hide shield( no real reason... it fits the most to the armor) and an ebony axe. no helmet, nothing upgraded. using only health enchants(because nps also only get a higher health pool by lvling up)

my most balanced gameplay so far and i can actually stay on adept.

edit: btw. i am lvl 51

now that you mention it i think i do remember that thread.

so was the conclusion that it was a bug or that briars have an excessively high kill% in normal gameplay?

Why not just try wearing cloth on the torso and wear heavy boots, gauntlet and a heavy shield with sword, it's a lot more fun, was getting bored of skyrim till I tried this.

Why does everyone complain about how easy the game is? I generally think it is perfect the way it is....

I'm not say it's to easy, playing a Mage is hard but I just prefer to play like I do because I don't think it's very realistic to run around a sub zero country in full metal armour, but then neither are dragons lol just rp purposes mainly

Some people were angry about it and called it a bug. Others disagreed and told them to use some points for health. I think both sides had good points.

I have more fun without the helmet. Hey, why don't you try just gauntlets and boots? I don't think I have any characters with armor ratings in the 300s.

this is an honest set of questions and i am a 1st person guy, so, i'm wondering:

how do you have 'more fun' with your PC having his helmet off?

does everyone that doesn't use helmets always/mostly play in 3rd?

what is it about seeing your character while playing that adds to your enjoyment?

you only get to see the back of their heads during combat so, why?

when your playing in 3rd it's not as if you're watching your character while you play the game, so, why?

Haha, what kind of RP character wouldn't wear their helmet to battle?

you're going to have to ask the people on this forum.

do they seriously roleplay and if so, why, don't they wear a helmet?

Kinda ironic that Oblivion has a worser scaling system then Skyrim yet that game is still difficult throughout because of the scaling.

Sure, here are my thoughts.

Taking off the helmet is an easy way for the OP to lower the armor rating. More risk, fewer enchantments, harder fights, more fun. That sounds like what ferrykeizer is looking for.

Sorry, I can’t comment on why someone else wouldn’t use a helmet. As for the third person thing, I don’t see the character as myself, I see them as my character. If I could only see the back of their head at any time, I would switch to first or change the zoom. Looking at the back of a head, helmeted or otherwise, doesn’t sound very appealing. Also first person just feels claustrophobic to me outdoors. Third person feels claustrophobic in tight corridors. I switch accordingly.

My characters don’t wear helmets all of the time, because they just wouldn’t. That is not to say that they never wear helmets, sorry if that was confusing. What I was trying to say in too few words is that the most fun fights I’ve experienced have been surprises, where the character is less than optimally equipped. A dragon attack when they’re walking out to get some wheat from a farm, for example. My favorite dragon fight occurred in the middle of Rorikstead. I don’t know if you’d call it role-playing, but in that case a person would not have time to go put on armor, so my character didn’t. At the end she got the kill cam where you jump on the dragon’s head. She was wearing a dress. That one, I remember!

I wear daedric armor and i am lvl 92 with heavy armor...it became a bit...too powerfull
But the armor fits my character so well that i did not want to put it off. But not wearing a helmet seems reasonable.

In other words, instead of exploring the game on your own, you hopped on the net and found every exploit you could to level every possible skill and now you are whining that it is too easy. Start a new character, do NOT use crafting skills (smithing, alchemy, enchant) use no daedric or ebony anything, and keep the difficulty on master.

Please tell me you're playing on master difficulty, right? If it's still a challenge, then you must take it a step further and create challenges yourself. That is the only answer.

I haven't worn a Helmet in a long time. TBH some other pieces of Armor you can find are much, much more worth it. Not mentioning any because that'd be a spoiler, go find em on your own.

I like wearing circlets, hoods, or sometimes no Head piece at all. Believe it or not my most recent Character is LV32 now and I have Ancient DB Armor (not improved at all yet) and non-improved Weapons and the games much more enjoyable. I don't feel too OP basically..

Then simply mod it out yourself...You're level 92, what do you expect?
