Most hated videogame enemies.

Post » Thu Aug 04, 2011 7:38 pm

So I spent tonight playing some classic Genesis (or Mega Drive, depending on where you're from) games, and one of them in particular inspired me to make this thread, but more on that later. Whether it's just tough or simply annoying to the point of pure rage, there's always that one enemy that just makes you want to throw your controller across the room. So how about it, BGS forums? What is that one enemy that you all hate?

A couple of mine just to kick this off:

1. Mosquito-bomber things. I have no idea of their official name (Vectorman) (Genesis/Mega Drive): Not because they're particularly tough, but because they're just so ANNOYING. They try to kamikaze you in swarms, infinitely respawn, are VERY hard to hit, and are usually placed just right to screw up an important jump. The only good thing about them is that you can sometimes take advantage of the infinite respawning to farm health from them.

2. Super Mutant Overlords (FO3): This one is pretty obvious. Enemies with so much health they can almost take a mini-nuke without dying. Oh, and they have some of the best Big Guns and Energy Weapons in the game. Oh, and the Tri-Beam Laser Rifle does double damage when equipped by them. Fun.

3. Riot Infected (Left 4 Dead 2): This guy is more annoying than most of the game's Special Infected since he's totally immune to damage from the front, meaning you have to single him out in a crowd, simultaneously defending yourself against a hundred other angry zombies who want to rip your face off, melee him to spin him around, and then shoot him in just the right spot. Good luck if you're on Expert or Realistic where the Common Infected do about 20 damage a hit.

AGH, how did I forget those?

EDIT: Oh, and Greater Bonewalkers. Having your Strength damaged to 0 in two seconds is not fun. So not fun, in fact, that I modded their damage strength spell out of the game.

Oblivion - Will-o-the-Wisps....

I avoid them like the plague, but some have no problem with them....
...and this comes from someone who adores the archery practice that Cliff Racers afford. They never have bothered me that much...and the Marksman mod has spell casting Cliff Racers! Have mercy!

I don't do the old Genesis games and stuff...except Castlevania on Nintendo was my favorite back then, and I do recall the Medusas were pretty annoying in that.

Those fly baby things from Doom 3. They're like a pack of piranhas if you let them get close. Something about them that makes them always get below your line of fire somehow. Not literally but like a kind of psychological mindgame they're playing, making you think their taller or higher than they really are.

Completely seriously: Cliff racers.

That terryifying sound and looking above to see a flock of 5 comin' right at with you a ridiculous animation (which at the time didn't bother at all).

God i hated travel in morrowind...

I'm quickly beginning to hate Skags in Borderlands. Seriously, will they just [censored] off already? I especially hate the ones that charge like a bull at the speed of sound. How am I supposed to counter that!? Holy [censored]!

Also, the tentacle enemies in Devil May Cry 3. Talk about an enemy designed for pure, concentrated annoyance.

Wait for them to roar, then either snipe them or shotgun them in the mouth. Corrosive damage works well on the non-acid variants too. I keep a Defiler on me at all times specifically for taking out armored enemies like boss-level skags and crimson lance.

Oh, but I'm talking about this attack they use where they run at you, then suddenly pick up speed (keeping their mouths closed the whole time) and ram me like a bull. I've tried dashing to the side, sidestepping, timing a shotgun blast..nothing stops me from taking the damage. Thankfully, it doesn't hurt too much, but I've had three big ones do that to me in succession. Made me rage.

Ah, I think I know what you're talking about now. Hmm, what's your class? I usually play a soldier so if I run into multiple elite skags like that I just plop my turret down and hope they go for that instead of me. Usually works for me, but I might just be lucky.

Otherwise, a Maliwan electricity weapon might help for the high stun chance.

EDIT: Hmm, I think you've inspired me to pick up borderlands again. I haven't played it in so long.

Hah, actually, in the heat of battle, I frequently forget I have a special ability. And yeah, I'm playing Roland. It really is a fun game, but those Skags are running me ragged.

Big Sisters.
1. They take forever to show up, so I'm sitting there twiddling my thumbs while I wait for her to stop screaming and show up.
2. They have a godly amount of health.
3. There fast as hell.
4. They do alot of damage, thank god for Vita-Chambers.

Cliff Racers. Also, any enemy that is easy to avoid, but has waaay too much HP, kinda like most of Oblivion's enemies when you get to a high level.

they don't have to much health, I just hate waiting for them to come down as slow as they were to descend.

http://megaman.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Pantheons#Pantheon_Base, You have a literal split second to kill them or get hit, of course getting the hoverboard afterwards makes the level much easier (as you can one-shot any enemy that comes in it's path)

cliff racers

http://megaman.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Pantheons#Pantheon_Hunter http://megaman.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Pantheons#Pantheon_Guardian, Nothing's worse than climbing a wall then getting shot off 'cause you didn't time getting to the top in time

Edit: Gah! How did I miss http://megaman.wikia.com/wiki/Heavy_Cannon as well. Stupid massive damage. And the thing is I always seem to dash right into them.

My list that I can think of at the moment.

Big Sisters from Bioshock 2

Albino Radscorpions from Fallout 3

Enclave Patrolmen in Fallout 2

Cazadores from Fallout: New Vegas

The Scrin from C&C 3. When they get their air fleet moving, you're almost guaranteed dead.

Unlimited Hazama from Blazblue Continuum Shift. He has a freaking green aura around him that saps your health and gives it to himself! Not to mention he knows exactly when to hit his distortion finishes <_<

Legit? You mean using a car? It's a helluva lot easier with two players so one can drive while the other shoots. I've soloed him standing still, but I got really lucky and he flipped his car.

My most hated enemy: Lag.
