For me, Far Cry 2, splinter cell 1/2, MGS3, Oblivion and F3/FNV. All of these at some point ive totally felt svcked into the game.

Terraria, Civilization 2, Civil War Generals 2, and Morrowind are the only games that I have ever been immersed in enough to lose track of real life time.

Morrowind, Oblivion, Minecraft, Final Fantasy 7, and The Curse of Monkey Island have had that sort of effect on me. Not necessarily immersed, but disengaged from all else.

Morrowind, Oblivion Far Cry 2, STALKER, Mafia, Minecraft, Mount & Blade and Fallout 3.

Daggerfall and Pokémon games, can be very immersive sometimes.

The most immersive game I think I've ever played is King's Field IV. Where it falls short in combat, controls, etc., it makes up for in atmosphere.

Any Bethesda open world game - especially Oblivion. With the proper texture mods the natural surroundings can be pretty realistic.

Same here (when they're not crashing, at least). I've spent many thousands of hours being enjoyably immersed! Outside of that, probably Half Life 2, I think: that was a game whose atmosphere subsumed me in a way that I seldom see elsewhere. And perhaps Ego Draconis, just to finish things off.

Glancing at my games shelf, there's a lot of stuff that I've thoroughly enjoyed, but only a few that really grab me in that way.

Edit: I see a few mentions of Stalker; I was half tempted to add that too but couldn't quite make up my mind.

Well yeah, it is the most advanced fantasy world simulator ever made.

Oblivion, Morrowind, Arcanum, Fallout New Vegas.

There are others, and I used to get completely immersed a lot more when I was younger, but those games still do it for me now.

Still haven't seen a coherent definition of the I-word, but....

....I have never forgotten I'm playing a game, as far as I can recall. But that's fine, because my goal is to play a game.

I don't forget that I'm playing a game, but I've felt I'm most "in" the game when playing Fallout 1, Fallout 3, Red Orchestra and Mass Effects.

I think immersion is the result of how much you like the game, on several levels. A game you don't like is because the graphics are bad or just not your style, bad mechanics, bad controller layout, [censored] audio (bad acting, weak effects etc) and so on, being a combination of these or just one of them.

It's not the game that is immersive, but how you experience it.

Played many games in my life that have done a lot of things right, but none are them are immersive. It's always just a game, and it always makes sure to notify me of that.

I'm not sure if it's just a matter of how much you like it, though it's probably a prerequisite. For example, I liked Bioshock, Gothic 3 and numerous others just fine, but they didn't quite have that element that I'm "almost there". A useful definition is hard to pin down, but I was never much good at explaining things so I'll leave it to someone else!
