I dont get why people hate steam so much, its the best thing thats ever happend to me.
Auto-updates, some games is really enoying to get patches for'need to be member of an shady site to get an mirror for download'
I can easy see what games my friends are playing, and when!
I dont have to have a lot of dvd's laying around.
Its easy to see what games i have on the list.

And the best reason for steam is!
Its the BEST hideout to place my games so my girlfriend cant see what i really am! A NERD! :P

I love steam I hate Beth using it for Skyrim and main reason is Beth is a AAA publisher they can create their own network or DRM such as EA has done with origin and not use a 3rd party to play their games.

Ideally only Valve titles and indie/small time developers have actual integration with steam, however the ability to purchase any game should be there but again it should not be required for AAA games such as Skyrim, AC, Batman, Saints Row, etc.

Had it not been for Steam, I wouldn't be playing Skyrim in the first place. It was a crack decision to purchase the game one night and Hastings was all out. I don't have any other recourse to find suitable computer games in this god-forsaken town I live in besides Hastings, so Steam came in very handy. I even bought a copy for my brother through steam who plays about 20 feet from me in another room.

I love steam, and I had no problems with it for the first couple weeks, but it would not allow me to play without installing the 1.2 patch (even when I tried to play offline). So to play a less broken game, I've had to resort to other measures (funny how when they release a patch with new DRM, it's actually a patch that people who don't pay for the game don't even want...). Bethesda really should address the inability to play any version you want offline, or at least make patches that work.

Steam has announced that it plans to have a FREE video recording feature in future.

I'm still playing offline since 11.11. and had no patches.

The main reason to hate Steam is that you don't own the game, but just have the right to play it, which can be withdrawn anytime by Valve simply by locking your account. That and the EULA containing a passage stating that you cannot sue against this practice. At least thats what I hate about Steam.

People hate Steam because it constantly breaks no-DRM patches for their torrented games.

...why would you want more companies to be like EA? Especially with EA's DRM.

Are you a masochist?

I am a devoted fan of Steam.. of the worst kind, and I think a lot of the people who bash Steam are ridiculous.

BUT.. I completely understand why someone would not want to be forced into it.

Same way people who wanted to buy the first season of Jersey Shore on VHS were understandably miffed that they no longer had the freedom to do so.

I absolutely hated steam at first, but it seems to run okay on my computer now. I enjoy being able to talk to friends in-game and upload my screenshots, I quite like it.

You clearly don't know how pirating games work =P But that is not a subject we are allowed to further discuss. I've bought Skyrim for both PC and Xbox 360 and I love it. I use Steam a lot but I don't really like the forced-patch situation. Didn't expect to see totally bugged back-wards flying dragons on my machine but lo and behind, the 'rare' dragons appeared ;)

More than anything you need to look at the potential, the future, the things it opens up. Sure you can say, 'hey that's a cute little tiger' but in a few years it's gonna eat you most gruesomely.

QFT! I recently bought BF3, my first experience with Origin and I can't stand it! It's a blatent, unapologetic rip off of Steam that EA will use to yet again attempt to bleed customers dry. I like Steam, love the deals on there, love the in game networking etc, but for other publishers looking to rip it off, no!

My husband and I have bought games via Steam and for that it is great, but I disabled steam on Skyrim as I don't like that it has to run in the background. I just find it to be intrusive.

What is this forced patching and connection poppyock?

If you don't want Steam to update anything, simply block the Steam client at the firewall. It will happily let you in assuming it is on a laptop off the net. When you are wanting to patch simply open the firewall and let it run.

@derari, read the Eula of most games/software. It's a license agreement. You don't actually own it, they're just granting you permission to use it. And generally can revoke that permission anytime for any reason.

I'm just not thrilled with requiring steam bc what if Valve goes belly up? Then I've lost easily $2k+ with of games bc they require steam to run.

I hate using it, I don't like being forced to use it when I don't want to so I do anything I can to avoid using it.

Especially the fact that it stopped me loading Skyrim with an LAA patch, Seriously I'll decided what goes into my product that I purchased and not them.

I love steam. After installing, I can re-DL and install any game in my library whether it was purchased via steam or not. I don't have to worry about discs or saving cd keys (though I still do). I just click install and go to work. Come home and I'm good to go. This is particularly useful when reinstalling windows or upgrading systems.

My question is more "Why does steam hate me so much?" as my Steam launcher for Skyrim doesn't work.

Have fun with yours.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Origin is by far the absolute worst DRM out there. Having something similar to EA's Origin is a sure way for Beth to not be a AAA developer/publisher. Keep Beth's games on Steam or not have a DRM installer at all.

Yeah most ppl don't realise they actually don't OWN the game. They just paid to use it.

Then they make the games available offline... and it doesn't matter a thing if EULA says they're not responsible to fix the damage it causes if their servers go down completely, trust me if that's the case they will release the games available offline regardless of what EULA says.
