Multiple characters on one profile

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 12:34 pm

This is something that's bothered me since Morrowind and other game companies have implemented it, so why hasn't Bethesda? Why doesn't the game start a new save count and character profile when you create a new character? I would love to have a stealth character and a warrior without them sharing autosaves and save count. I'm hoping Bethesda implements this in an update.

Does anyone else have this issue with TES series?

Good point. If this was implemented, my wife could play without me worrying that she'll overwrite a save file.

They will not be doing feature additions like this. So don't get your hopes up.

It would be a nice convenience I suppose. Frankly it's not a big issue for me. I guess I've gotten used to naming my own saves over the years.

For anyone who plays on a PC, you can save using the console by just typing "save ". I find it's a lot faster/better than the normal save system. Obviously this doesn't solve the problems with autosaves/quicksaves/profiling.

It WOULD be nice, but as is doesn't bother me too much.

360 users can always play under another profile. (though I don't think you can share DLC, which svcks) Probably the same for PS3.

Eh, it'd be a nice convenience but not a major deal for me.

Or, one can just go to the save folder and make a new folder inside, with the name of your character. Move all the save files to that folder. Then you can make a new character, make a new folder, move the saves there, then drag the old character back and play. 3 seconds and wips there you have more characters to play  only on PC though.

Agreed but I've gotten used to how it is now, shame I can no longer back up my saves onto my memory card.

I'd love to see it happen, but it's not a game-breaker for me.

I started a new character on my friend's PS3, and despite me creating a new save file, her character was erased and she was left with 5 of my auto saves at varying points in the game. Gotta say, that is really, really stupid.

Don't know why they didn't do it as per Mass Effect. It is a little nerve racking, worrying you're going to overwrite the wrong file.

This save system is the worst ever! I love the game but good luck to you if you want to have more than one character. Just lost a level 30 because I failed at playing muscial saves. :swear:How hard could it possibly be after making such a complex, beautiful game to give characters their own save list????

The answer to your problem... Stop living on autosaves!
Hard save your character once in a while people. I have like 4 characters and I've never accidently deleted one.

I completely agree, I had this same discussion w/ a friend when the game first came out. I think this is the main reason I haven't started another character.....

It is ridiculous Bethesda hasn't implemented it, I'm sure if they are asked we'll get "You can see which character it is when you hover over it" or some BS like that.

I do this very thing. I have 3 gamer tags that I made for New Vegas and now I use them for Skyrim. And yes your DLC does carry over to your other tags.

The only logical answer I have to this issue is that nobody at Bethesda actually plays the game in any meaningful way, and have never in a million years expected players to want to play more than once character, nor have they ever read any of their forums, ever ever. Ever.

To be perfectly honest, I'm very surprised that they have never added a feature like this. Luckily, I'm on PC, so I can use a 3rd party utility to manage my characters (read: copy saves from one folder to another). For those on console, either be very, very careful, or set up a second profile (then log in on your main using controller 2 so you can still party chat or whatnot).

Totally Agree! I have like over 1000 hard saves. I save my game every 15 minutes IN ADDITION to the auto saves. How in the world do you log out of the game without making a hard save first? o.0
