I'm sure life "back west" in the NCR is very different from NCR's operations in the Mojave. If you'll pardon the inclusion of real life events, the residents of the Mojave would view the NCR the way Vietnamese peasants viewed the American armed forces during said war. The Americans talked a lot about freedom and democracy while they took what they needed and followed an agenda that didn't consider the needs of the natives. Those people had first had experiences with Americans, but they didn't see what America was all about. To them Americans were just soldiers fighting their own war. There's more to America than just an army.

Likewise, we're seeing the NCR from an outsider's perspective. There's more to the NCR than a bunch of soldiers who are defending a dam, but that's all people in the Mojave see of them.

It's hard to categorize democracies as "good" or "bad", as what typically earns them the "bad" label is a failure to live up to their lofty ideals.

If you talk to Cass about the NCR, she probably have the best anolysis of them. In general the everyday NCR population are good people and trying to rebuild civilization so for the most part, NCR's heart is in the right place.

The trouble is, their leadership is over extending themselves, fight too many wars and trying to claim too much before they are ready so they are screwing up everything in the process (sound familiar?). The prime example is the NCRCF, they've lost total control of the place and are unable to rope the Powder Gangers back in so the locals suffer for their mistakes.

Having said that, people like Mr House didn't make things easy on them as well. One of the conditions Mr House allowed the NCR into NV is that the NCR aren't allow to restrict their troops entering the strip and the casinos. The result being that the NCR ended up with a bottomless pit that just svck a large part of their resources.

As for the Legion, there's nothing good about them. I'm sorry but any society that keeps slaves and nail people to the cross lost my vote. Sure, parts of the Legion's territory maybe safer (ie. less attacks on trader routes) but you simply can't give up all of your morals for a bit of safety.

I agree, the more i see how the NCR operates the less i like em, im pretty close to wiping them out as well.
The legion is no better, the look down on women and keep slaves.
And I dont like this Mr.House guy either. Hes def gotta go.

I don't like any of them, NCR are a bunch of hicks with guns, Caesar's Legion is a group of muscly LARP'ERS with sharp sticks and gun, and Mr. House is an egotistical maniac thats a [censored] Frank-n-furter experiment!!!!!!!!!

Killing them all, and taking over, showing that your the top badass is the only way to go...

That works intill you became that which you fought so hard to get rid of. How long intill your charcter follows in House's footsteps of taking what you want.

While Caesar's Legion seem to rule in fear atleast they have the troops to backup their threats, where the NCR seem to command by bluffing. They look stronger and bigger so they must be, but they only look that way because they are spread so thin.

The BoS is almost laughable here they are literally ostrichs sticking their heads in the sand.

Whoever said I didn't do that already...I'm fine with being the new Mr.House, but thats just it. I want to be it, not him. He's outdated...

I am sort of siding with the NCR at the moment as the Legion really annoyed me by slaughtering a whole town, the powder gangers shot at me and the khans helped benny at the start. So all three of those factions are on my erradicate list. The boomers are a funny sort of nuts and I can't half wait to see if they can get their little project off the ground so to speak. Mr House I have just met and and a tad unsure of. Oh, and BoS are fine by me because they can supply me with much better weapons and armour than anyone else so far hehe.

The NCR doesn't care about the locals? Maybe the locals only care about themselves and don't see the bigger picture?

My first play through I sided with Yes Man, and kicked NCR and Legion out of the Wasteland.

The second play through I sided with the Legion, mostly because I wanted to do some of the quests I "failed", and to see how much different the outcome of the game was.

My next play through I'm going to side with the NCR, and then the next one with Mr. House.

I like being able to take more than one MQ line, I think it's fantastic.

This really is a fantastic post, and it does add a great layer of depth into the story if taken into consideration.

Especially considering that one of the things I noted early on about the NCR is how far and thin they were spread, and how one outpost/settlement was so much different from the next. They really are pretty dislocated from each other, so to speak. Each Commander runs things very, very differently.

On my next character, im going for caesar's legion, as per tradtion (second character is always evil) though now i put my mind to it, NCR's more neutral then good (i wonder how going for mr.house will be like)

Just an update.

All of these factions are starting to annoy me. The only one i can stand being around is Yes Man (maybe that says something about my personality?). ive helped the boomers also, mainly because they are straight shooters.

The annoying thing is the other factions talk down to your character. Im currently level 29 i believe and could wipe out the entire wasteland with my ammo stockpile and my high skills, yet these faction members continue treating me as an errand runner.

Open war it is then, (a pretty fun playstyle im surprised to find). Ive installed yes man, upgraded all the bots. Now im exterminating the other factions, taking their resources for myself. It was kind of hard to let go of the BOS, (considering they allowed me to join them) but i see a huge explosion in their future.

I'm planning to turn their turrents agaisnt them and then rob them blind, then we will see about that big boom.

In other news I ran into a NCR camp and the head person there put up with someone stealing supplies and sniping them for 6 months, and of course askes me for help she could have done with a little foot work.

Of course I helped the NCR, If it wasn't for me rescuing Tandi from that Great Khan hideout 120 years ago there wouldn't be an NCR. Well, technically that wasn't the courier, but whatever.

I hate NCR and love the legion.

Hmm, I try to see the bigger picture here. On one hand, the NCR is growing a bit bigger than they might presently be able to handle, theyr'? biring off a bit more thna they can chew and their higher-ups may well be corrupt - and there's probably plenty other faults one could point out about them. However, the people aligned with them are mostly good people as such. Plus, it is mentioned by many that back in the NCR, things are fairly stable and most people seems to be able to live without the fear - which I see as meaning that in the long run, things could actually become fairly stable and life easier for people under NCR rule.

In the end though, no faction is truly spotless though. But that's what the independent path is for - if you don't trust anyone else to be able to handle the job, then how about yourself? :celebration:

I dunno, I thought she was hot. I'd have definitely liked a [Ladykiller] option there. I think her problem was a tremendous lack of six.

Anyway, after supporting the NCR through two games now, I definitely wasn't able to turn my back on them for the third game. It's like the General says - sometimes the NCR falters because of its own bloated bureaucracy, so it needs the occasional hero to set things straight.
