Need to make 800$

Post » Tue Sep 06, 2011 4:42 pm

I actually have thought about that. I scavenged my old MAC to (I doubt these are worth anything). It all adds up http://m1111.photobucket.com/albumview/albums/Emperor-Vidicus/2011-09-05_12-15-53_418.jpg.html?&pbauth=1_uLEBonVPfaLdh1h3YMYz2dLL9ujlntsIy6wvey8swNeZc5%2BTxHJyneuI3N2RVUQOMR4GcIJsxQ0fWqCCQ5GxaLsiD8q5jK50ZYAO%2BZTXkVPO%2B6va8Ya4mboRoKHbbe%2BPmofbB4z4dZdtL6Z%2Fv%2BeZZQYuJcOgVGJCeZGu%2FWefzNXafGOWFAeAXg%3D%3D

Now I have no idea what those cards are, but I am sure one of you do, and maybe the value of them.

Could the image be any smaller? Those are some sticks of RAM and maybe a DVD drive? can't tell, too small. All total worth $60 if that.

I think it actually costed 600, but I am not to sure. I also have the hard drive lying around, but I don't have anything to reformat it with, and I want to use it for a desktop eventually.

Formatting it wouldn't erase the data anyway. I just recently did forensics on a drive that was just overwritten. Was able to recover around 85% of the data without even getting my hands dirty.

Also if you are planning a desktop, just skip this laptop and build the desktop now. $800 will build you a nice one. Yeah it means telling your dad the truth, but he's going to find out anyway, so you might as well tell him.

I knew a kid who would steal his parents cigarettes and sell them on at school. Your parents smoke at all?

If not that, then a car boot sale may be an option. Do they have car boot sales in Hawaii? It's where you take all your random crap (and I mean anything), park up in a designated field or car park, and sell it. You'd need your Mums' help for it but you can make quite a bit of cash on old trinkets, furniture, artwork, books, board/video games, clothes etc. Plus the money is instant as opposed to internet selling, where you have to fuss with commission and postage and all that. I recently helped my sister with a car boot, and she made over £100. I only took a binbag full of clothes and made £20.

Here's what I've got:

Babysitting
Housekeeping/cleaning
Dogwalking
Pet sitting (if you happen to know anyone who's going away and needs someone to feed their cat or something)
Window cleaning
Car washing
Ironing service

For these you could either design leaflets and go door to door, or maybe you have a place near you that lets you put up advertisemants? A few shops near me have a public noticeboard. You could also get your Mum or other advlts to ask around the people they know if they need any odd jobs doing.

I would add to this list the following:

1. Door-to-Door Sales. I did this as a kid starting when I was about 10 years old and earned a few hundred dollars per week (in the 1980s). You might try inquiring with your local newspaper or some sort of door-to-door marketing firm. I was really nervous the first few doors I knocked on, but over time I became really good at sales. I developed confidence and learned how to deal with rejection from customers, etc.

2. Merchandise/Snack Sales. This works with any product you can buy cheaply in bulk, then turn around and sell it at a profit. Anywhere there are long lines or large crowds of people on hot days, you can make quite a lot selling ice cream, popsicles, cold sodas. Go to midnight releases of games and sell snacks, drinks, coffee, candy, etc. to the people waiting in line, for example.

3. Fundraising. Consider how your goal is a sort of worthy cause. Obviously there are thousands of charities and lots more admirable causes, but you may want to consider telling people what you are saving up for and why it's so important to you. You can do lots of the same activities that schools and non-profit organizations carry out to raise money, such as car washes, bake sales, candy sales, etc. Perhaps you might be able to work out a deal with your parents where if you raise, say 80-90% of the cost of the laptop, they might kick in the rest, for example. Regularly review your progress and you may want to track it on some sort of chart on your wall - it will inspire you to keep at it until you reach your goal.

4. ebay/craigslist/yard sale. It helps if one of your parents has an ebay account, but typically in any home there is lots and lots of junk that no one uses anymore that could be sold. if you don't have access to ebay, simply hold a garage/yard sale on a Saturday or Sunday morning and post some flyers around your neighborhood. You'd be surprised at how much you can take in. Be sure to ask all your family members to donate clothes and personal items they no longer have any use for.

I think they'd call it a yard sale. And indeed a trunk, not a boot. Why the hell do we call it a boot, anyway?

Serious choices:

Sell some stuff you don't need on Ebay

Wow, I think honesty is the best policy here. You parents will probably find out anyway. People make honest mistakes, parents understand that.

He lives in the US. Specifically, Hawaii, and most places do not hire 15 year olds unless they're family owned and not chains.

Hawaii then sell those pineapples. If you want to make more $$$ call those pineapples "organic" its the new and cool way to ripoff and scam people. It will work so well that they'll gladly buy it overpriced and they'll never be able to tell if its actually organic.

But the amorality gives the pineapples a somewhat bitter taste.

You need to have a permit to sell something as organic.

I have no idea. It looks nothing like a boot. On an unrelated note, I had a dog called Boot. Was he named after the car part, or the shoe? Either way, he had a [censored] name.
Although trunk makes no sense either.

Sure, trunk makes sense. They used to strap http://www.legacytrunks.com/images/Circa%201850s%20Gold%20Rush%20Stagecoach%20Trunk.jpg on the backs of vehicles before they had, well, trunks.

Which sounds better, junk in the trunk? Or loot in the boot?

Kill the guys in the green shirts one by one. Nobody will ever notice.

Or you could run out their business. Find out what they charge and charge ten bucks less for your services. People will use you instead. Even if they're contracted by the city, who cares? It's not like people have to use the lawn services provided to them.

Then sell the meat to a local store, claiming it to be the pork of the highest quality.

First, why two months? Seems random

Second, do you really need an $800 laptop? Is there something in particular you are looking for to do with it, or do you just need something to use.

Third, do you need a laptop? Most people have a spare monitor or know someone with one, and then getting a cheap PC can be done and save you considerable cash while also providing you an upgrade path into the future.

Skyrim anyone? :whistling:
