Need to make 800$

Post » Tue Sep 06, 2011 4:41 pm

Rightyo. No one here needs to hear the sob story, but the problem declines to this. I need to make 800 dollars to replace a laptop with a, for the most part, copy of the one my genius ass broke.

There are a lovely list of caches to go along with this though. First off, I am only 15 (if this thing could of broken a year later, this would not require a thread...), so I can't apply for any retail jobs for a few more months.

Second thing is Lawn Mowing or Paper Delivery are not availible. Every morning I wake up to these green-shirt wearing guys, with there weedhackers going" REEEEEEE" all over the neighborhood. The Newspaper is delivered by postal service, so that to is out of the question.

It all narrows down to this. I need 800$ in two months, and the best way to obtain it for someone my age is taken. I am praying that you folks have some handy suggestions her month. One thing I am thinking about doing is taking soda-cans from the recycling bins around school and turning them in to a place nearby, but I don't think that alone will get me the money I need in two months.

Try selling other stuff? Recycling could end up being profitable if you're dedicated to it.

Either A- Undercut the greenshirt men drastically

or B- Ask your parents to pay it off, and your allowance/any income you make goes directly to them.

Go door to door and ask how much they're paying for the lawn service, then offer to charge less.

Works every time. Plus you'll still be making good money since most lawn services (around here at least) charge anywhere from $80-$100. ;)

Edit: Ninja'd! :(

I support this. Unless they're contracted by the city, there isn't much you can do.

First, why two months? Seems random

Second, do you really need an $800 laptop? Is there something in particular you are looking for to do with it, or do you just need something to use.

Third, do you need a laptop? Most people have a spare monitor or know someone with one, and then getting a cheap PC can be done and save you considerable cash while also providing you an upgrade path into the future.

If that's the case, how old was the laptop? If the guy paid $800 when it was new, but it's 3 years old, the thing is definitely not worth that much now. Yeah, you broke it, but it's a pretty jerkwadish thing to make you pay the cost in full when the thing isn't even worth that much now.

How did you break it?

Ack, I feel ashamed everytime I tell this story. So this laptop was a gift that I got for my birthday from my dad about... 9 months ago? At the moment, he's deployed so he has no idea it's broken. Anyways... how I broke it. Do you guys know that scene in Boondock Saints where Rocco is raging about the Italian Mafia and accidentally kills the cat? That's pretty much what happened, only the italian mafia is a very bad person, and the cat is my poor laptop.

I can't use allowance money, as my mom isn't good with managing it and is in a bad sketch right now.

I could try to undercut the orcs. I am not sure if they are hired by the neighborhood or not, but I think I may try that out.

Start slinging crack. Only way.
That or like others said undercut everybody else doing lawns. A friend of mine also used to buy and sell stuff on ebay, he tended to make around £200 a month on it, but it took up loads of his time and most of his garage in storage space.

So... you're trying to replace it before your dad gets back so he never knows you broke it?

I suggest just telling your old man, and also getting your laptop repaired rather than outright buying a new one. If possible it'll be cheaper.

So basically you don't want your dad to find out and going to rebuy the same laptop before two months are up?

Not to mention it's the kind of coverup almost guaranteed to fail in which case you'll have to deal with "Son, why weren't you honest with me"

Except for the hard drive (at least not without DBANing it)

Here's what I've got:

Babysitting
Housekeeping/cleaning
Dogwalking
Pet sitting (if you happen to know anyone who's going away and needs someone to feed their cat or something)
Window cleaning
Car washing
Ironing service

For these you could either design leaflets and go door to door, or maybe you have a place near you that lets you put up advertisemants? A few shops near me have a public noticeboard. You could also get your Mum or other advlts to ask around the people they know if they need any odd jobs doing.

Well in Canada, I believe you can get a job at 14 now at least in Mc Donalds and placed like that. Thing is, if you are under 16, you can not work the French Fry station but you can do everything else, so how about a Fast Food joint?

He lives in the US. Specifically, Hawaii, and most places do not hire 15 year olds unless they're family owned and not chains.

I actually have thought about that. I scavenged my old MAC to (I doubt these are worth anything). It all adds up http://m1111.photobucket.com/albumview/albums/Emperor-Vidicus/2011-09-05_12-15-53_418.jpg.html?&pbauth=1_uLEBonVPfaLdh1h3YMYz2dLL9ujlntsIy6wvey8swNeZc5%2BTxHJyneuI3N2RVUQOMR4GcIJsxQ0fWqCCQ5GxaLsiD8q5jK50ZYAO%2BZTXkVPO%2B6va8Ya4mboRoKHbbe%2BPmofbB4z4dZdtL6Z%2Fv%2BeZZQYuJcOgVGJCeZGu%2FWefzNXafGOWFAeAXg%3D%3D

Now I have no idea what those cards are, but I am sure one of you do, and maybe the value of them.

As for repairing the laptop. When I killed the thing, the monitor was cracked, the lights were flickering all over the place, and other things that told me it was screwed beyond repair.

I think it actually costed 600, but I am not to sure. I also have the hard drive lying around, but I don't have anything to reformat it with, and I want to use it for a desktop eventually.

@ChineApple: That list may actually be what I need. Ill look into all of those.
