We Need A New Quake

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 6:47 am

This series has been sleeping for too long now and it's time to awaken it. I was eleven when the first Quake hit the PC and it soon became my favorite game. once Scorge Of Armagon and Dissolution Of Eternity released I snatched those up like a hungry eagle. Well I've played everyone of them through Quake 4 and one can only live off mods for so long. Also Quake Arena doesn't count I'm talking a full storyline with nextgen graphics. Well Bethesda has the rights so who wants to see these guys revitalize the series?

I'm not sure if Bethesda Softworks' relationship to id software would have much of an affect on id's licenses. I suppose id joining Zenimax would complicate their relationship with Raven if Raven hadn't been decimated by layoffs recently. :( The decision to keep id tech 5 internal to Zenimax is also a complicating factor, I don't see future Quake games being developed on anything other than id's engine so it would have to be developed by a Zenimax studio. I don't know if this makes a Quake 5 more or less likely . . . however in regards to RAGE John Carmack mentioned that, "http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1109970-carmack-id-probably-done-with-new-ip-for-ten-years/" since id has so many IPs under their belt. This suggests that id isn't ready to retire anything so eventually we'll probably see a Quake 5.

Probably not for quite a while though.

Why have a new quake when quak3r didn't go to quake 4 ( in q4max mod ), because it was to hard for many of them .... ?

Quake is a Sport, quake 4 was more fast, more hard, with more move, with very technical duel ... One level over quake 3. I Think the futur is at the minimum a game with quake 4 move ( why not with more movement ). But quake 3 player will still playing quake 3 because a new game with new movement is not good in them mind.
They think they played 10 years a game so nothing have to change ...

But quake 4 was more a sport than quake 3. And few people was on it. It is Sad. I can't imagine a quake 5. More harder than quake 4 ? And so ... 200 people in the world will play on it ? And if it is the game play of quake 3, what is the goal of quake ? Still the same game for 100 years ? i don't think ...
Or on new quake you have to take people by them hand and explain them everything of the new gameplay ? No ...

I think before doing a quake 5 , quake 4 have to be play again, many people still playing it, because it is a very good game, better than quake 3, but no competition ... Why ? because not enoough people wasu nderstanding this game =/.

So why make a quake 5 ...

More over the next gen game, with good graphic, are good just for the campaign of game .... But on quake , you play with looooowwwwww graphic aspect, in order to see very well your enemy. So what for do a next gen game, with stting rules to reduce the graphic ...
I know on computer , next gen game is a good idea, because when can change settings, but on xbox .... OMG play with 50 or 60 FPS on quake ? it is not serious !!

I don't believe id would hold off on Quake 5 in the hope that more people try Quake 4. Just in general I don't think this would work, but it's also an Activision published title developed by Raven so there's little incentive for id to boost the game at this point (and there certainly isn't any incentive for Bethesda Softworks or Zenimax).

Id is already working on RAGE and we believe Doom 4 so their plate seems to be full for the next few years . . . but then another studio could be doing Quake 5

quake 1 openGL! NIN!
quake 2 yay, but UNREAL and half-life stole the show.
quake 3 GLextensions!!! online exhibition! (just re-installed with http://ioquake3.org/ so i can play on WIN7)
quake 4 more sporty than q3? i think not. meh, after playing DOOM3 i couldn't play it.

IF they make quake 5, they should bring back NIN and go back to the 'arena' formula with better character generators and customization. the whole reason i can still enjoy quake 3 today IS because of its exhibition quality... i thought it really made sense to take the franchise that direction, because DOOM already has a way more convincing and immersible 'story mode'.

single player fun = TDM skirmish against 4+ (hardcoe not nightmare) bots on Q3CTF4

Quake 3 + CTF == Epic Win!

Though, I really did enjoy the single player missions of Quake 2. I haven't played Quake 4 yet. I still look forward to it.

yeah quake 4 is 10000 time more sporty than quake 3. It is not an idea from me, you are thinking the contrary , but it is just a reality ... quake 4 is x100 harder than quake 3, this is why few good quake 3 player go on quake 4 ... because they didn't want to learn new movement, and play this game which is faster than quake 3.
(of course i speak always about q4max )

Actually I would love to see a new QUAKE. But also new releases on XBOX Live for Quake and Quake 2, since they have released Doom and Doom 2.

I agree! I too have played all of these and there needs to be a new Quake game with next-gen graphics and a completely new storyline. I would instantly fall in love with it, then throw a massive party in it's honor! :celebration:

quake 1 Awesome!
quake2 Awesome!
quake3 no singleplayer, no content. meh...
quake4 disappointing singleplayer and modding support.

quake 5, please bring back modding and server tools for people who like to run their own servers and make new content along with the content that comes with singleplayer story lines.

Maybe I just grew up or something but after quake 3 I really was bored of the quakes.

I don't see what's the point. We have Quake Live. It's pretty much the best multiplayer experience you'll ever get - and it's free.

What they can do is continue to improve upon Quake Live. It's just amazing how they brought back Q3A and captured todays more mainstream audience (especially the younger kids)! You have to hand it to them, they did an amazing job! They're still patching it up, always adding content, and there's a huge active community and tournaments to compete in. It's so exciting! Quake will always live on no matter what happens!

What I'd like to see though is a rerelease of Quake II, or Quake with entire new episodes, updated graphics, sounds, etc... You can't top off the originals. Games aren't created the same these days *cough* Quake 4 *cough*

Now what we do need is... Doom 4.

I'd be all for a Doom 4 but however at the same time would also like to see a new Quake.

I'd like to see a new Quake in the vein of the original. I never really got into Quake II or the Quake IV sequel as they are too much like other franchices (though I 've played both), and as for Quake III, ubiquitous as its engine became, multiplayer wasn't really my thing at that time, and it still isn't.

I can't say I'd ever played a game quit like the original Quake before its release, and I can't say I've played once since. If I was going to play a Quake game right now, it'd be the original (in fact that sounds like a pretty good idea...I know I have that CD somewhere...). Terrifying and perplexing, aimless yet engaging. If they could do that again, capture that atmosphere, we might have a game worthy of the name Quake.

Quake 5 should go back to the roots - Quake I.

Quake I had the atmosphere and a story with great potential (for those times).
If anything Quake 5 can be a modern day re-imagining of Quake I.

The monster design, the level design, the atmosphere, the music were all excellent.
Alternatively, a story like that for Insomnia for Quake I would also suffice.

A new Quake game would always be something I'd like to see, although to be honest I don't know what I'd like it to look like - the series as a whole is a bit of an oddball in that every game plays very differently to the others, yet has some common threads. Quake 4 could have been better in SP mode, if Raven didn't rely on their own formulaic gameplay mechanics so often (on-rails shooting segments that last half an hour - so, so dull, and a Raven staple it seems).

On an aside, a good port of Quake 1 to 360 ala Doom/Doom 2 or Quake 2, including split screen, would be a lovely thing. It really is such a unique game in it's tone and environments and I feel it's largely ignored these days, and just like Doom it would play really well in co-op in split screen or online. And of course - it's a classic DM game.

Totally agree, 100%. I think the FPS market shouldn't be dominated by just military shooters. Those are fun, but they're too linear and don't really promote any creativity from the player. No puzzles, nothing to figure out.

The point is there's people like myself, who prefer singleplayer and definitely want another singleplayer Quake experience. Stuff like Quake 3 and Quake Wars and Quake Live didn't cut it for me. I played Quake Live and did well with it but I don't care if I ever play it again. Also played the Quake Wars demo but MP get boring fast IMHO.

The first Quake and Quake II, plus the expansions were great and I spent countless hours playing those games and many a user created map, plus edited a few maps myself, way back when. A lot of folk seem to dislike Quake 4 that Raven Software developed but I really enjoyed it and thought it was as good as Doom 3. It was certainly good to continue on the story from Quake II and take the fight to those Strogg swines. ;)

I don't like Raven anymore. I don't like Quake 4. For me Quake II is the best game ever made! But Quake 4 is fake. Don't like the Stroggs don't like the sounds. I can't explain my english is bad. We need new Quake II !!! Made by id. they have the magic. I love Quake 3 Arena but I think that is bad idea to be only multiplayer. hope to see new Quake II ! I want to return in 1994~1999 with time machine. New games are very bad. Only money. What happened with Sonic Mayhem? they made best soundrack for Quake II. too much commercial. We will never see games like this (1994~1999). My only hope is id software !!!

edit :D : Hi id ! it's time for something big ? you evolved so much and now with bethesda. After RAGE and DooM 4 we must see MMOFPS ? Yes Quake LIVE is good but too simple and no RPG elements. Quake universe is perfect! Now with Bethesda you are strong enough.

The first time I played Quake was on the N64 the very first one for the N64 not Quake two. It scared the crap out of me in a fascinating way that made me crave more. It wouldn’t be until Oblivion came out for the Xbox 360 that I felt that way again with the exception of being prettier of course. More Quake is a must.

I agree with you 100%. FPS are mean't to be competitive and I think quake 3 set the foundation for that, maybe even more, but quake 4, (in my opinion) was a huge disappointment. I had to find another fps to play and I still haven't found one as good as quake 3.
