New Blood, Skyrim influx

Post » Wed Sep 21, 2011 5:01 pm

Ok, first off I am not trying to flame or start some sort of war. I want that to be clear.

Now, I know people are excited for Skyrim and rightly so. I'm quite stoked and can't wait for 11-11-11, got my preorder set and everything. However every time I look through the Skyrim general discussion I can't help but shaking my head or getting slightly frustrated with some of the new blood. Now I'm not saying this is all new members, but many of the posts from those who have joined sometime in 2011 are the ones setting me off and making me facepalm. I think it's great so many people are interested... but damn. Also, I rarely see any of this from the older members, so it's always nice to see them giving real input and actual replies, rather than fairly unneeded posts that seem to be made only to boost post count.

Has anyone else been feeling the same way? Again, not trying to flame, just curious if anyone else has felt the same.

While this topic will be locked because it's unnecessary, I'll agree. Skyrim General is currently one of the most unpleasant places I'd consider going to on the internet at present. Notice I said "I'd consider". I'm well aware there are far worse communities. That's my two cents.

There's always a surge of new members when a new game is announced/released, and not just on Bethesda's forums.

The Fallout crowd were much worse, and they all calmed down eventually. I wouldn't worry about it.

Not to mention the rampant flaming in Oblivion General when it came out. This entire site's seen its fair share of unpleasant periods, and I've no doubt this one will pass. But at the moment, I'm steering clear. :P

Pahahahaha, I'm a terrible person.

I was one of the noobs that joined when Fallout 3 came out, those days were pretty cool though.

Not sure if this is supposed to be sarcastic haha. If so, I assume you must feel my post is unnecessary, though I am honestly just curious about how others feel.

I was also afraid this may get locked, as Sub_Tonic said, but as I said, curious how others felt. (My aplogies to the mods if it had just been better to not create such a topic)

It is kind of a shame the Skyrim forum feels a bit like a zoo when all you want is to genuinely discuss the game and such.

Ya, a lot of this going on in the rage forums as well. Just a lot of new people who want "AMG SUPAR KEWL WEPZ and tehl33t armoz". I was kind of like that too when I first joined these forums.

It is entirely possible to discuss Skyrim in Skyrim General, you just have to keep a level head around the more obnoxious folks. I once had a rather stimulating debate in there about the removal of spellmaking (it only got mildly tense), but for the most part, I have trouble keeping cool, so I'm doing myself and others a favor by avoiding such a situation.

It would be nice to be able to state an opinion without a million newbies jumping on you for daring to question a game mechanic.

I think everyone was, honestly. I think when people start to realize that this site has a bit more etiquette than a lot of other sites, the more obnoxious people will realize they need to shape up if they want to be taken seriously. Either that or they'll just leave.

I was one of those Laymen who lurked the forums for a month or two before signing up. I was afraid to say something everyone already knew lol. It get's kind of annoying seeing the occasional new guy start a thread about a topic that was discussed 4 months ago. What grinds my gears are the ones that obviously never took more than five seconds to read the rules. But what can ya do?

I dont mind newbs, or whatever, but when they try to defend cutting with their lack of knowing what was there in the first place, it bothers me.

I think it's funny when the forum regulars tell a newbie off for discussing something.

"Redundant thread much? There's already an existing thread, we discussed this in March 2009!" :P

Indeed, I have always felt like these forums, more than any other, have more etiquette and sense of respect.

I don't mind helping to educate new members, but some things you just can't help but stare blankly at the screen and

Heh, well maybe not that far back. Another thing that concerns me are the ones that join just to create a specific thread and their names are something like, "ToddHowardsvckslol".

I don't go there any more pretty much for this reason.

that and I have my own personal issues about getting into arguments with people, at least I used to but when ever I go to skyrim forum the old ways come back strong.

and all I pretty much have to say about the "new blood" that I find annoying is that they argue without facts and in circles, you try and explain something to them and they just go "yeah but" and after its over they insist that they "won" like it was a game.

My favourite is when they make repeat threads asking why their previous thread was locked, or request that moderators be "fired". :P

That's good. I know new people will sometimes do things that I'll just facepalm at. Then there are the new guys that read the rules and knows the news cycle pretty well. I like those guys :icecream:
