New GPU card for Skyrim

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 2:57 pm

I think it's time to upgrade my Nvidia 275GTX for a DX11 ready card.

Skyrim has an option for DX11 right?

I'm thinking of getting one of these 2 cards, and would love to get an advice.

I got a GTX560 Ti several months ago and have been very pleased with it. Great performance for the price and it runs cool and quiet.

I really like EVGA as a manufacturer. I've experienced fewer issues with their cards, and the one time I did they replaced it out of warranty. Very good customer service.

Im also upgrading my GPU but im springing for the 570 6% less performance than the 580 for 20% less money seems like a bargain to me. However the 560 is a solid, solid card and it does wonders in SLI so thats good down the road.

If you want to save $, consider the GTX460. After rebate and on sale, I was able to score an EVGA one for $100 even. I can max every setting in Oblivion and get 60 FPS even outdoors (unless there's a lot of CPU load... one core and all. :P ) I'd consider it a best-bang-for-the-buck. I notice that they don't go on sale much though possibly due to this!

Don't worry about the lower stock GPU and memory clocks... comes with an NVidia utility so you can OC it as simply as dragging a slider and monitor the temp.

Beware the GTX 550 ti!

Heh... you posted that while I was writing "If you want to save $".

I bought a Radeon 6870 and I estimate that it should run Skyrim with max settings on a 1920x1080 display at a smooth 40fps which is quite respectable.

I'd recommend the GTX 560ti, but both will do just fine. It has 384 stream processors vs. 336 for the regular 560. It's basically the most efficient design of the Fermi architecture you can get.

I think it would be wise to wait for the official system requirements. That 275 will probably be more than fast enough.

I'd recommend the 560 Ti, but the EVGA version of it. Check out the Amazon reviews of both the EVGA 560 Ti and 560.

http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-275-review-test/16 is a benchmark of Fallout 3 on Ultra with 8xAA!!!!! The 275 still runs the game at 55-60 fps! You, sir, don't need a GPU upgrade...

I can heartily endorse the 560 TI as well. Got an MSI Frozr II OC version of it and it runs stuff like The Witcher 2 maxed out.

Very nice cards :goodjob:

I bought an EVGA GTX 560 SC and its pretty solid for my resolution (1680x1050). It was a snap to overclock it to 930 Mhz - which gives it performance like a GTX 560 Ti for a little less money. I should be set.

I can max all in-game quality settings in Fallout 3 and I stay pretty much at 60 FPS (vertical sync on) all the time. I know Skyrim will be more demanding with all those trees and foliage, but hopefully I can max it as well.

I will be getting an EVGA GTX 560 for $189.00 and it's easily overclocked to the TI clock speed.

Good joke. You know the xbox360 has a 512 MB graphics card? That'd be worse than what he has in his PC.

I find it pretty funny how some people always think the XboX or PS3 had more power than anything. Seriously, it's also a PC if you think about it, just with less space and compatibility, which means worse hardware in general.
