New Patch causes near-immediate crashes

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:36 am

Just got the new patch. Disabled the mods I was using (the community unofficial patch) since they would likely conflict with new weapon refits.

A few minutes in, every time i walk through the highway 95 viper camp near Novac, cra-blash. Crash-a-roo. Every time.

I got an XML from the crash, will that help anyone from support? anything? anyone?

Orrrrr do I need to start the game over? Crap. Crappety crap.

I don't know about anyone else but I have also been having immediate crash issues. After loading the patch I start the game and after about 5-10 seconds it will completely crash on me. Before the patch I was having issues with it crashing on me while I was in NIpton.

Any help at this point would be greatly appreciated.

Similar issue, but I'm not even getting into the launcher correctly, immediately crashes, I had actually just loaded it up to start a new game yesterday, and it worked fine then.

Yea i'm getting this to. i can't play the game anymore since it crashes over and over :( and i was looking forward to using guns more. (With the right perks my unarmed was doing way more damage then most guns in game so i just started punching things to kill um)

Does this stuff even get tested?

I would just take it for granted that with a new patch, I will need to remove all my mods and start a new game, adding back a mod at a time that I have verified are ok post-patch. The patch has changed the main FalloutNV.esm. All mods are based of this file, so of course there are going to be problems, and problems with an old save game.

I wonder sometimes if the game developers know what they are doing, they just seem to be making the game worse.
since installing this last update everytime I try to enter Doc Mitchell's the game crashes.
I wish I hadn't bought the damn game & I certainly won't be wasting my money on the DLC, when they can't get the game running properly before release.

Before the patch 1.3 my FNV crashed wherever it wanted. It still does after the new patch.
When I hit 280 - 300 hour marker, thats when it started to crash.
That was when the previous patch came out (1.2.0.352)
I have tried every singel error fixes that have been posted on the internett for this bug infested and total addictive game and I wonder if I ever get to play the game more than 5 min at a time. I have clocked 384 hours since it got released.
I agree with Lockinvar that I will not download the DLC until they have corrected the serious errors that it has.

Right now I can't even get to the point where it would be able to start a new game. I can't get past the first splash screen before it crashes. I called Tech support and that was a joke. They sent instructions to shut down everything else running on the computer and the same thing still happens.... imagine that.

Edit** Ok, just saw that GStaff posted what I hope is a fix to this mess. Guess I'll find out, I ran verification and I had 2 bad files that its redownloading so I hope it fixes it.

He saved Bethesda from receiving a nasty call from me since the first guy I talked to made no mention of the above fix.

Just spent the last few hours setting up a new game & going through my mods to find out which still work.
Creatures XIII add on appears to have been causing the crash when trying to enter doc mitchell's, so presumably will also cause crashes elsewhere & possibly other similar mods will do the same.

HUD_Extended_Beta3-38589-Beta3, Jump_Fall_Fixer_Beta1-37876-beta1, Tag_Skills_Improved-35164, The_Couriers_CollectionV2-35949, all now cause a crash within a few seconds of starting the game.

It has also messed up the underground hideout by danthegeek.

My game play time is listed as 685 hours, at least 30% of that is recovering from game crashes thats about 230 hours wasted recovering from crashes.

I like berner Have tried every fix I can find which have improved the crash problem slightly, I no longer use autosave & just use manual saves & quicksaves which also improves the crash problem slightly'

IT SHOULD NOT BE LEFT TO THE GAMING COMUNITY TO SORT OUT BETHESDAS MISTAKES THIS SHOULD HAVE ALL BEEN SORTED BEFORE THE GAMES RELEASE.

Same here. After the patch downloaded, the game just keeps freezing after about 10 seconds. Such a great game, but to be plagued with these kind of problems is almost maddening.

i cannot for the life of me get this game to run on my PC (yes, i have the correct hardware/software/drivers etc.)

i've deleted the .ini files and re-verified the game cache 3-4 times using the directions provided by GStaff (below) and i still can't get past the initial FONV launcher

"1) Open Steam
2) Right click on Fallout: New Vegas
3) Hit Properties
4) Click the "Local Files" tab
5) Click on "Verify Integrity of Game Cache"

If that doesn't work, delete your ini files and repeat steps 1-5"

i just bought this game today and i come to find i can't even play it!

Which .ini file are you deleting m8 the Fallout default.ini in the game directory?

I had the same problem when I transferred my steam games to my new system & I've still got 1 file faulty, but the game is working.

I've just tried deactivating all mods that alter anything inside the prospector saloon & it's still crashing. Looks like it's going to be an unrelated mod causing the crash as with the crash for doc mitchell's, at this rate it's going to take weeks to sort out this bloody mess. (thanks to bethesda) :banghead:

Sod it I've gone back to ver 1.2.14 & turned off updates til this fiasco is sorted out. Luckily I purchased mine on DVD so don't know if anyone will be able to go back with the downloaded version.

i'm deleting the two .ini files straight from the game directory in my file browser

Also; I've got the DVD version of the game, any tips on how to DL straight from the disc without having steam automatically update to this bugged version?

thanks a bunch

open steam right click on new vegas & delete local content, make sure the new vegas directory in steam is empty, reinstall from DVD allow the first update from steam as this is just the verification of the game, as soon as thats complete right click on new vegas again, then select properties, go to updates & select do not automatically update. thats how I did it.

i've installed the game from disc, but, Steam starts updating FONV immediately after the initial from-disc installation is complete, so i don't have time to change the properties to manual update. :brokencomputer:

Also: I still have 1 file that fails to verify with Steam when following the GStaff's instuctions, presumably the .ini file

One file will fail to verify most likely. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas -> validation.txt (i think) file.
installscript.vdf? If so then its a common issue that doesnt have any bearing on game functionality.

What happens exactly when you click play on the launcher? Be specific and include as much as you can about the problem.

It isnt necessarily Bethesdas mistake but most likely one of your mods. You probably use alot im guessing? It IS left to the gaminng community to solve since its the gaming community that makes the mods.
Bethesda isnt responsible for them in any way. Going through mods to determine what is causing crashes well thats the nature of the beast. I know what that is and its a pain in the ass. Only way to protect against it
is to keep steam from updating your game.

first the game opens in a small window, after about 1 second it goes to a black full screen, after another second, the windows loading cursor pops up and windows is telling me "a problem caused the program to stop working. Windows will close the window and look for a solution to the problem", then the game exits

Have you tried a clean windows boot?
clean boot link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Make sure to verify that no third party programs are loaded when u reboot. Use the task manager. ALso go back into msconfig and check the non-ms services. They should all be disabled or in the stopped state.
Some services may not allow you to disable them like that. You will have to go into the software itself and disable the startup stuff there. Zonealarm does that. You have to go into the properties and uncheck zonealarm at startup.

that first update is only validating the game m8, its not a full update so it doesn't update the game as it still remains as ver 1.2.14

Yes I also get 1 file that fails to verify, & have always had that from first install so must be a glitch as the game runs,
