-If it's done already, why not release it now?
My motto when it comes to video games

The game being done doesn't mean they've produced the millions of preorders and other copies they need to actually release it. It just means that the disk has been shipped to the publisher to be burned onto millions of DVDs.

It takes time to replicate the game and print all the boxes, manuals and other stuff!

I don't think people would like us very much if we just shipped games the second they were finished.

i take it that the shipping time is why there's a 3 day gap between US and EU release dates?

Aside from the fact that Goris is my favorite character, I'd like to see how the whole weird talking deathclaw thing translates to 3D and voice acting.

I don't think they could do his cloak justice though. It would just be kind of..glued to him, I'm guessing.

No offense but as long as you people force us to use Steam you could simply release the Steam version now... doesn't take a genius to figur that out.

I doubt they'd want to release one version of the game before another (or if they'd even be able to, dunno what kind of deals Obsidian and the games publishers and Valve have already agreed to).

I can't think of any disadvantages.

Just putting it out there. I'd still buy the retail version to put on my shelf.

well think about it, if people heard the steam version would come out days before any other, don′t you think a huge chunk of the buyers would just get that one?

Obviously that doesn′t fly straight with the game stores, plus the bad PR from all the console users raging over the unfair gap between steam downloaders and them.

Exactly. As players sometimes it's hard for us to see things from the perspective of the developers/publishers. Retailers of the physical game discs would be livid if Steam was allowed to release over 2 weeks early.

Yeah, isn't that what steam is for?

It's mostly for DRM, but yeah, you should be able to download it through Steam as well once you've registered the game.

Hey I still prefer discs but If games were released soon because of digital downloads I'd definately buy digital.

There have been enough cases in which console players got their version of the game first. In this case it would be the other way round so what's the big deal? It would take +0 effort to make it possible, just saying.

Because it's not just an issue of who gets what first. The companies have already agreed to how things are going to go down, and it wouldn't be wise to break those agreements (if they even could).

I think thats a Customer Service issue. Can you imagine the uproar from us console users or people who cant play games like New Vegas on our PCs? There would be hell on these forums.

And yet developers are so eager to shaft the PC on releases, often pushing our release days back days or even months.

You don't see us [censored]ing.

Retail Copy - To buy it and play it as soon as possible you have to pick a store that has a midnight release, go outside at midnight on a tuesday then head home and start installing it. Depending on the install time and how far it is and the line etc etc it will be a couple hours plus gas money.

Steam - Pre-load the day before and play right at midnight. Bam.

It's awesome to have the game's box. But, what matters is the game. And it's way easier to just pre-order on steam than having to walk and go to a store and ask a dumb clerk to make your pre-order... blah blah.
