new vegas killed my xbox

It constantly overheats the S, Gen2 and Gen3 xbox consoles that my firends and I play on. Our consoles are well vented in climate controlled rooms, and they can only play for about 4 hours before slowing down, getting jumpy and ultimately locking up. With all of the other bugs, I was starting to think this is less of a heat issue and more of a memory management issue with the software itself. However the game does struggle with alot of verticle mesg, which is clearly why they had to chop the strip up into three sections. Does anybody know if the strip is three seperate loadable sections on the PC?

The game certainly slows down the more you play it. My guess would be a memory use issue. If I notice the load times getting unusually long, like 10+ secs, and the frame rates start to drop I save the game and restart the xbox. That fixes the problem for me and my xbox slim and I only have to do it once a night. That fact that I have to do this is rediculous. This is the ONLY game I have ever had to restart my xbox to get reliable game play. If this game requires every bit of the processor and memory to play it reliably then it should come with an advisory, especially if as many on the forums have stated, it is actually breaking their xbox. The xbox does not have gauges like a car or system monitor software like a computer to tell you when it is being over used so the average person just has to guess when it is overheating.... being over used. Is my xbox crashing because its overheating or because the game is really buggy? Why would the average person think restarting their xbox a few times ruin it? If I buy a new car and restart it 30 times its gonna restart each time. If I buy a new computer and restart it 30 times its probably going to restart each time and if not, it certainly wont ruin it. So why should a new xbox give us that worry? Is it that big of a piece of junk? Honestly, having sent my xboxes in three times for the RROD, they certainly can be.

I guess the moral of the story is, if you are having this much trouble playing a game then take the game back. Its not worth ruining your xbox. Dont get me wrong, its a great game in theory, but in practice it is extremely buggy. I was one of the lucky ones that didnt have my save games corrupted. I did have to go back several times to a previous saved game simply due to bugs and quest issues, but I was able to finish it. I think if I had the issues some people have experienced I would have taken the game back and waited until next year when the GOTY edition came out and the bugs were gone. Its just a game.

I used to have a 1st gen Elite that RROD 3 times (possibly 4) while playing Fallout 3. I thought I was crazy to think that it was caused by Fallout 3 til I read this forum. Last year I bought the MW2 console, to replace the fragged 1st gen Elite, since it was the best one you could get at the time. Only reason I came here is because I've lost easily 12+ hours of gameplay on New Vegas because of a corrupted save and even because the game stopped auto-saving (this happened to me a ton on Fallout 3). I have the game set to auto-save on everything and it just stopped auto-saving. Back to main topic, I'm glad (sad?) to see I'm not losing it thinking that Fallout 3/NV is a console killer. I have never played a game that svcked me into itself so much as Fallout 3. I traded Fable 2 CE for regular Fo3 and didn't regret it. Unfortunately it looks like this is the last Fallout I'm buying for my 360. :( Question for Bethesda or anyone that can answer; Are these problems because its not a Bethesda/2k conglom this time? In other words could this be Obsidian's fault rather than Bethesda's?

BETHESDA :

Hello,

There must have been an underlying problem with your console. If it was known that the game would damage Xboxes, it would never have been allowed for release. Microsoft themselves test the game, and would not have passed it fit for release if any such issues showed during testing.

More likely, as this game would work your graphics GPU harder than other games, the fault with your console only showed up as a result that the game was pushing your console harder. The fault would have existed since manufacture more likely. Again something could have failed on your system, some component overheated, it is impossible for us to say. We are sorry you have encountered a failure and hope Microsoft sort the issue for you soon.

i really have no words for it :shakehead:

FO3 killed my XBOX, it was pretty screwed anyway though to be fair. FONV has not as of yet, I have however stopped playing untill further patches become available. They certainly are dragging their heels. :sadvaultboy:
