Newby Granny needs more help!

I tried that. Doesn't work for me so far.... and I didn't try to remap "e" to something else so I don't think it can be that. I *think* I should delete the .ini files, and then reset the move keys - that might fix issues like grabbing.... because who know if I screwed the pooch by trying to remap shouts to "a"....

Left click to attack, right click to block. It's easier to think of it as left click being your primary action and right click a secondary or helper action. That's how I keep from getting confused when dual wielding spells.

TAB gets you out of menus or a menu choice

Enter usually complets an action or menu choice

I only use ESC key to hard save my game, though it does let you choose inventory or look at your character skills.

I use right-click for either a spell or a second weapon - don't do shields. Usually I use Sparks until I get an offensive shout. Then I go for a second weapon. It's still very counter-intuitive for me to attack with the mouse though - after years of "asdf" etc. for attack sequence in WoW....

You use directional buttons to attack in WoW? o_O That would be odd. Skyrim has the same system as Fallout pretty much.

(Damn, hate it when I glitch in the middle of a complex post *sigh*) Okay, what was I explaining.... In wow, most people I know use the mouse to move and steer; press and hold both mouse buttons, then move the mouse to steer. I do know a few folks who use wasd for moving.... that's just always felt "gimped" to me.

All my toons no matter what class have their major attacks, spells, etc. keybind-mapped to asdfgqwetv - beneficial spells like fast heal or a shield I put on t, q, w; the rest are offensive. I use left hand on the keyboard for attacks/heals etc. and right hand on the mouse to move the toon.

I grew up in the era of "duck and cover because there MIGHT be an atom bomb" - not to mention that my entire family worked in the defense industry - at places like the Nevada Test Site and Eniwetok Atoll. I don't play Fallout - I lived the predecessor.... which thankfully didn't ever happen. But that sort of thing isn't ever going to be a game for escape to me.

Wow my post was deleted because I called out an obvious troll? Strong moderation here.

Excuse me but I object to being called a troll. I object to being insulted because I can't figure something out. You, sir, need to grow up and learn some manners.

I was a grandmother at 45.... yep, I have a nearly 20 year old granddaughter. That's not what makes me feel old though. THAT happens when I see machinima vids about the beginnings of MMOs.... known as MUD back then.... *sigh*....

[And yes, I fully agree with your post about being called a troll. The only troll was the one doing the name-calling....]

I suspect that somewhere along the line I have remapped some keys without knowing what I was doing. I got out of Helgen by sheer luck. I have tried various suggestions to reset things to default, but they didn't reset. So I have deleted the game and Steam and will hope that a clean re-install sets everything back to where it should be. I am very accustomed to using the left and right mouse buttons for attack and shield - I played Oblivion until I practically wore out the DVD! So it surprised me when pressing the left mouse key did absolutely nothing. And the right mouse key brought up the save/control/quit menu that I think the ESC key is supposed to bring up. So somehow I bolluxed things up rather royally.

So for now I wish all of you a Merry Christmas tomorrow and I'll be back begging and pleading for help again!

Happy holidays to you! Have a wonderful day with your family, if that's happening at your house.... and do you really play an instrument (horn)? If so, which? My younger granddaughter plays flute, clarinet, oboe, french horn, tuba, trumpet, trombone, piccolo.... and violin and piano. Flute is her first love however.

Merry Christmas back at you Granny and let us know how it comes out. Game is wonderful and, to me, a non WOW vet, the controls work just fine.
