Yes, it's normal that they beat you right into space. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6C8GIPpNR9s&feature=g-u&context=G25a1265FUAAAAAAAbAA In this vid it also happens to a bear, pretty funny sight.

I brew up paralysis poisons specially for them, but yes, the sub-orbital giant smack never gets old.

If there's only one you learn their attack patterns pretty easy so you can just dance around him with no problem, lure him into slamming him big club down (you'll learn his effective range) then that gives you a few seconds to press the attack. After taking on a few giants you'll learn how choreographed their attacks are an see them coming from a mile.

Once you learn the giants attack patterns it's very easy to kill them. The mammoths are harder, they have a wider attack arc and they're faster at attacking with their charge attack.

my god that was amazing i luv how the bear hit the floor then bounced, brilliant, i also luv how casual he was about it, hes just strolling along, sees bear run up smacks him into space then walks of like, ''yeah? wat u want from me? in all honesty i think the bear felt a little silly seeing how he was thinkin he was so hard chasing you, then gets made to look like a ragdoll.

Giants have super-slow attack animations, which makes them very prone to bashing and dual-cast impact stunning. Archers' stagger isn't as reliable, and dual-wielders will need to svck it up and strap on a shield for a second, but then you shouldn't really be surprised to find out that archery and dual wielding aren't god-mode vs everything.

Good tactic.... when they're about to hit you with the club, try using whirlwind sprint.

Actually they are the easiest enemy you can jump out the way of IMO. Their attacks are very easy to spot, and dodge. Then come back in to attack, thats how I killed one at level 10 on master, took ages though even with the help of lydia's bow and a flame atronach.

Someone at Bethesda missed not having the Fat Man in Skyrim. Thus, Giants were added. Purely for comedy I think.

You can poison them with slow poison via a bow. I do not think slow poison actually wears off, as I have not seen them return to normal speed even after 2min of slamming arrows into their eyes. Use 2-3 poisoned arrows in successesion to be safe.

Going toe to toe with them. Over 400 armor and over 300 health seem to be a safe bet. You will not be two shotted on master with those numbers.

Happy hunting!

Getting sent almost into orbit is very normal. Happened to me several times, and I've seen my followers get launched. Funniest one I saw was a frostbite spider. I was a good distance away and happened upon this not-so epic battle. I followed the spider up as far as I could see, then saw him hurtling down. I saw him hit the ground, but when I finally made it to the area, there was no carcass.

As far taking a giant out, sneak is a powerful tool for my assassin. With a decent dagger, he can one-shot a giant. For a more straight-up fight, you'll still have to run around. The Marked For Death shout is a big help in weakening pretty much anything, giants and dragons included. FUS RO DAH is also a lot of fun, whether sending a giant flying down a mountain, or into a big rock. Poison-tipped arrows/weapons definitely help at low levels. My Battlemage killed one earlier by using Marked For Death (only have 2 words for it on this character), and let the giant chase him while Jordis shot him full of arrows. That was a lot of fun, considering he's at lvl 51 and can slice giants down before they can begin to fight back.

yes, this is usual. I like command animal on the mammoth, let him do a bit of the work or kill one with arrows from distance then resurrect to fight for me.

Kind of unrelated, but the other day I beat two giants in Hand-to-Hand combat in quick succession. Made me feel badass.

Back on topic, the 'Skyrim space project' doesn't happen often honestly. Giants can also be killed fairly early on by running in circles around their legs.

That's exactly how I met my first giant when I was fighting a dragon. He didn't like it for some reason. Another time I watched one send Lydia to the moon. They're too twitchy for me...don't like giants.

I had a giant launch into orbit recently.

I was traveling down a back road with Lydia, and we came upon two Giants. Lydia runs up and starts attacking, at least until she reaches here crouch mode.

My character moved, sneaking to some rock quite a ways above the Giants, so I could snipe at them while Lydia would take them head on.

More than once a Giant would do it's pounding with it's club and to my amazement Lydia would literally fly out of sight! Must be like hundreds of feet in the air. I think it is a physics bug having something to do with my character being so far away from Lydia and the Giant.

It was really kind of funny. Each time, after a while, Lydia would eventually come running in from some place and continue to attack. The fall did not appear to kill her. Maybe because she must have fallen very far from my character.

But this was not just a 30 feet in that are flying. This was hyper flying by maybe hundreds of feet.

.... Another time I watched one send Lydia to the moon. ...

You transparently posted this while I was typing the exact same thing above!!

Glad I'm not the only one to see Lydia launched into space.

Considering how high we can get something in real life, say, an american football with a punt or a golf ball with a golf club, being knocked that high into the air by a giant doesn't seem that unrealistic. You figure they're about eight times our size and we can get at least a good 100 feet in the air with the aforementioned items, you do the math.

Ok, on the subject of things flying to suborbital levels, the other day I was running along in the marshes and two Mammoths spawned out in front of me a little ways and they spawned one on top of the other. The programming tried to fix the issue or something because they were all glitchy for a minute, then the one on top just flew up into the air, fell back to ground, then flopped over dead. One of the funniest damn things i've seen so far in the game.

The only other one I can think of that may have been funny (and mildly irritating considering I spent a lot of time trying to kill the guy with no success) was the Daugr you fight just before you get the "Fury" word of power for the Windsprint Thu'ume. I tried to kill that guy for like 45 minutes and gave up and started knocking him down with a Thu'ume, he fell into the creek in the next room, got stuck and drowned. Mildly satisfying since I kind of wanted to hold his head under water at that point anyway, but still kind of lame way to get by him.

they're actually not hard to dodge, just jump away from whatever hand they're attacking with and you'll dodge the hit...I find mammoths harder to defeat than giants cause they attack faster and you really can't dodge them easily at all.
