NPC dialogue is as terrible in Skyrim as it was in Oblivion.

It kind of bothers me that if someone's attacking me while I'm talking to someone, if I want to hear it I have to take all those attacks. If I quit out to fight back, they won't pick up from where they left off.

The troll attacking me didnt seem to mind this. Also the adventurer who was talking to me didnt seem at all concerned with the situation either. I wish I could remember what he was talking about because I was pretty focused on the troll and my diminishing health!

Maybe it's me, but I remember the days when NPCs didn't say anything unless you clicked on them, and even then they said the same things over and over again. I'm quite thankful just to have voiced characters that attempt to add to the immersion. Do NPCs say the same things over and over sometimes? Yes, they do. Is it a big deal or worth complaining over? Of course not. It's like pointing out that a beautiful supermodel has a pimple on her arm. Who $#*)@*% cares?

I'm sure for TES VI the technical capabilities will be much higher, and they'll be able to give NPCs many more lines to say. Until then I'm quite satisfied playing Skyrim, even if some NPCs do repeat themselves.

Last time i came across nazeem, it was in werewolf form. I kind of made him go to the REAL clouds, with a well placed hit. Never heard of him since then.

They still need about 2x as much dialogue to make characters feel beleivable. Sad that the costs of recording lines are so high.

You're right .. but it's something so small ..

Find me one person who whines like a child that could make a game 1/100 as good as this .. nobody knows the amount of time and energy it takes to make video games .. seems like people can't get the silver spoon out of their mouths ..

I agree NPC dialogue isn't up to much. The only it really works is when you walk through somewhere like a market and the multiple voices give a decent impression of reality.

But it's one of the many many things that is basically down having to pander to the console market, which are basically at the level of a five year old PC. What I'd like Beth to do is release an addon for PC players that exploited the greater power of their systems, as well as better dialogue I'd like more realistic animals (bears hibernating, stags rutting etc) and seasons.

I have a question. Why don't Bethesda add a script that makes NPCs randomize what they say when you walk past them? It's so ... annoying and painful to hear the same starting like again and again.

PLEASE someone tell me that this is possible with Creation Kit! This would be a must have mod!

Merry christmas :)

One reason it sounds bad is that many NPCs have only one (or a small number of) greetings.

This is compensated for by long-running monologues of NPCs in certain side quests (thief guild, all very eager to tell you the feature length story about their life), where player interaction only serves to continue the monologue.

It would seem more authentic if they spoke in a foreign language. The programmers could then string words together, and have more dialogue because they`d need less sound samples.
