Obesity

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 7:21 pm

Why are there no fat people in fallout? im pretty sure if war never changes neither does greed. And there is food EVERYWHERE even the bighorns are huge amounts of food. So your telling me there are no obese people despite food being everywhere. Just thought i would bring this up. Also it could make a good dlc about rich people sending mercs to towns to take all the towns food and take it back to the fat and rich slobs. So of course the town seeks help and so forth. :)

yeah would like to have had more body types, everyone looks the same proportions :(

Bad [censored] hand to hand characters should be more butch than a character with no physical ability.

And if I want to be a fat guy, should be an option to be :(

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Gizmo and maybe http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Vic comes into mind. With that said, I would say an extra mesh would be needed if that were to be the case.

Ya maybe they should add a trait called heavy set gives you +2 to strength and endurance but -2 to agility or speed reduction something like that

Sure, YOU find food everywhere because you're the one person the game revolves around, so good things always come your way. Are you referring to Freeside? The Strip could be possible, but the people could have dieting pills they take or maybe, in spite of how cowardly they are, excersise regularly.

That sounds cool but I don't know about increasing endurance and strength. If I was playing as an obese person I imagine I wouldn't have much endurance. The speed reduction thing sounds interesting as well.

What about if it made it harder for you to get knocked down? Or that unarmed attacks did less damage? Those make a little more sense :)

Good idea by the way.

There aren't skinny people either, for that matter. Everyone has the same buff physique or, in the case of females, generic womanly physique awkwardly draqed over a male skeleton. Technical choices, not art choices.

Well i put endurance because in fallout it means more hit points and more resistance to radiation which makes sense because fat people can usually take more hits and since they have a bigger body it takes longer for radiation to kill you because its more body to cover

If they had more than one body type in the game it would probly take far to much time and resources to make all the armor and clothing change for each small and large characters. I'd rather have more quests and different types of armor and clothing rather than them taking alot of time making multiple copies of armor/clothing for different sizes.

Food isn't as plentiful, so there would be so few fat people as to make creating a model for them a waste of time.

That makes sense... Sorry, I was thinking about muscular endurance for some reason (PFT deadline coming up for the Marines). I do actually think that the fatter you are, the more radiation you can survive though. I'll need to verify that before it should be accepted as fact however.

I don't think there are fat models, not even in FO3 or Oblivion, that may be the reason why. Laziness of devs.

Laziness? No, not everything the developers don't do is "laziness".

I'd say recycling exact same models & a 2006 engine to create a "new" game in 2010 falls under laziness.

The question about the lack of fat people pops up every now and then...
It wouldn't be hard at all to make "fat" meshes, takes a couple minutes with a lattice...
There are many ways to rationalize it. One way would be, the environment lacks elements which would tend to make a person fat. Think about it: there is no transportation, so people walk everywhere they go; there may be plenty of meat, but protein doesn't really make you fat, etc.

the way everything (everything) in this system seems to be balanced on a very fine line between working and not working. adding the fat (and a fat model that doesn't look like crap) might screw some stuff up

Were fat now because we don't have to walk anywhere or have to find food. In fallout even though there's food everywhere, they have other things to do besides just eat and if they have to walk everywhere then they'll get enough calorie burn.

You can adjust npc "weight" via the GECK but I don't think it makes them look fat in terms of beer guts or fat jowls etc. It just makes them...expand. The same, only wider, like thin vs. bodybuilder width.
And I agree....I think this while playing a lot of games. Most are always thin. But then, in NV, perhaps all that radiated + 200 year old food isn't good for gaining weight....

Fallout 2 is REALLY lazy then since it is basically the same as F:NV. It uses most if not every asset from the previous game, has a handful of new sprites and follows the same 'Find something to save my people only to save the world from some evil entity'

Fallout 2 is just as lazy :spotted owl:

Would you settle for a "typo in the first sentence of your post" argument? Edit: Or, on second reading, just an odd sentence structure.

Here's the secret answer about why everyone is thin. The answer that the Enclave doesn't want you to know about.

Here it is:
Spoiler
Everyone in the Fallout games is a Ghoul. Everyone. Some Ghouls get hugely expanded lifespans and terrible skin. Most just get incredible metabolisms that make them all look fantastic until they die of old age.

Good thing you didn't rig that water purifier, isn't it?

Nah, I'm half assedly arguing, I dont waste my time worrying about 'which game is better' or 'new vs old' that yawp is a waste of time.

because there isnt alot of food.

and the people who did have food then they are either wealthy or they worked really hard. (or had faction connections).

and because Beth/Obs probably didnt want to make more then one body type for characters.

It's the future. I'm sure all the overweight people in Fallout are in the same fat camp as all the overweight people from Mass Effect. And the female turians, too.

Three cheers for having only two models for character bodies.
