Oblivion DB vs Skyrim DB

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 9:44 am

I feel like the Oblivion Dark Brotherhood story line was much more thought out and fun to play.
Spoiler
I loved the fact that you were actually hunting down and killing your fellow members of the brotherhood. I also loved the fact that there was a traitor in the group and you didnt know who until you were at a meeting with the night mother.
The Skyrim Dark Brotherhood story line was not bad, I just feel like the Oblivion one was stronger. Cicero was just completely annoying and creepy IMO
Spoiler
I took my time killing him and enjoyed ever minute of it. I also love assassinating the fake emperor and having to hunt down the real one.
Does anybody else feel that the Oblivion Dark Brotherhood questline was more thought out and exciting to play?

Oblivion imo just had an overall better story line. Let it be the main quest or the guilds. Not saying the ones in Skyrim are bad. They're all just kinda rushed and not AS fun, or AS exciting. Again, imo.

The only guild questline I think is fairly fun is the thieves guild, but unfortunately its more like Oblivion DB questline than anything else...

I also feel like the Thieves guild was much better in Oblivion. I have yet to finish the Skyrim thieves guild, but the quests I have done so far are no where near as fun or suspenseful as the Oblivon ones.

As a whole, I believe the Skyrim DB was better than Obli,(more deep characters, more "epic" plot). The only bad thing was Nazir's generic contracts. Oblivion had some really outstanding moments though, the Whoddunit quest was brilliant

Oblivion DB is clearly superior.

I feel skyrim is a bit more quantity than quality when it comes to quests. Think they wear going for an in between of morrowind , which had tons of quests but a lot of them were simple, and oblivion which had few more complicated quests.

Oblivion's DB was just overall more fun and each quest felt refreshing in my opinion, my favourite had to be 'Whodunnit?' I just love that quest since it isn't your typical 'Go here and kill a guy' quest.

Oblivion quest line actually benefited from limiting. You could do the job however you wanted, but got a bonus for doing it a specific way. Skyrim is simply all "Do what you want" so there is literally no downside to rushing in and killing your target, and if you get caught, just pay off your bounty and go get payed.

And the wedding quest... just terrible.

The only part I really like about the Skyrim characters is Astrid's betrayel to try and help the brotherhood.

Oblivions DB was certainly more fun, but I do feel like Skyrim's DB characters have more depth to them. They felt like family to me and

when I saw Festus (think thats right) stuck to a tree via a bunch of arrows I was kinda sad.
. There both good, but I would prefer Oblivions (I think it was longer to).

Oblivion's DB had me feeling a bit more guilty about my actions and certainly had a more twisted finale but Skyrim's DB wasn't without it's moments, getting a certain Ghostly Assassin as a summon really made my day, I suppose that's just nostalgia talking but hearing Wes Johnson's voice again was damn good, stealing into the ship at night time and doing the final deed was also rather damn cool.

On the Whole I enjoyed Skyrim's DB but never really felt as connected to the story, it was just a fun ride and a nice diversion from the slightly more serious world of Skyrim.

I thought Oblivion's DB was better, but Skyrim's was still pretty good. All of the other quest lines aside from the main storyline are very good in Skyrim but I think Oblivion's were better overall.

In this case I should say I prefer Morag Tong in Morrowind. That's only because I hate the idea of Night Mother and Sithis. When I play as assassin I don't want to be a nasty cultist - I want to play as assassin which means I kill for money and it's nothing more. So when I'm comparing only Skyrim and Oblivion I would say that Skyrim has better, because in Skyrim you can also kill the whole order which is much more pleasant than being one of them.

Spoiler
The only interesting Skyrim quests were the plots leading up to killing the emperor. But even those got tedious. Not to mention there was no difference between a beautifully placed arrow between the eyes and just rushing in with a sword and shield and tearing everybody apart.

In my opinion Oblivion had better storylines for just about everything, and I thought Oblivion's storylines were pretty lame.

This. The characters were better in skyrim. Actually i think thats a general improvement for skyrim :P
But the db quests from Oblivion were superior, and I loved the Whoddunit quest as well, so great!

That's true about Skyrim's DB quests as well.

I loved in Oblivion how you could find Hints that the people you were killing near the end were actual DB members. They had the armour hidden away in their houses, or books on Sithis and thhe Night Mother on their shelves.

I completed all of the DB in Skyrim pretty fast aswell.. in a couple of days or less. Not sure if I was playing it too much at the time lol but it was fairly quick for me.

I have to agree. Even though there are some familiar characters/items, something about Oblivions DB felt much more enjoyable and it was long. I don't know why, but most of the faction quests in Skyrim seem relatively short compared to Oblivion.

Im going to have to pick Skyrims DB, the characters felt like they had a bit more depth *if only the rest of Skyrims characters were the same*

Same here really. The faction quests can be completed in a day or two. They're good, but I guess it's a bit disappointing.
