It's Official no gear stripping in DLC

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 9:06 am

Chris Avellone clarifies on the speculation that your items will be taken away again in the upcoming Fallout: New Vegas add-ons, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues and Lonesome Road in Bethesda forum:

"In Dead Money, we did it for the survival/horror experience. None of the future DLCs strip gear from a player, although in Honest Hearts, because of the caravan journey you're on (and the distance) you can only carry a certain weight limit (which can be increased with skills and perks).

In both Honest Hearts and Old World Blues, you'll find out fast that you're in a difficult situation and need to finish the adventure once begun - but both adventures take place in an open world free-roaming location (similar to Point Lookout). Once there, you can tackle your objectives in any order or ignore them entirely. After completing the adventures, you can return freely to both locations from the Mojave.

In Old World Blues, it's very, very easy to return anytime you want, and we tried to make it as easy as possible for people to do so.
Lonesome Road is a bit different. As the name suggests, it's more a road that leads to an end destination (though not like any road you may have seen before), so it's structured a bit differently - you can travel it, and come back anytime you want. You can also return to it after the adventure is over."

Nice to see we won't be gear stripping, man, that last DLC did a number on my Corvegas internal components :cryvaultboy:

Oh wait, is this thread not about stripping the gears on our machinery? :unsure2:

That's right, carry in limit on HH, and no gear stripping for OWB, or LR.

Well HH has a weight limit that can be raised with speech and skill checks it makes sense you'd be forced to travel light since its a caravan trip, as for OWB and LR there hasn't been anything specific except that your gear won't be taken I"d assume that both would have a weight limit to prevent you from bringing everything and just blowing away everything without a challenge. It seems like a rather elegant solution to the problem of balancing the dlc for player gear while still allowing those that wish to start with at least a few pieces of equipment.

So HH is making us travel light, and all three will be returnable areas? Obsidian, I take back all the bad things I said about you over the last few weeks waiting for info. I love you.

I already planned on going very light to begin with. I need lots of room for new loot.

I never really had a problem with the taking of my weapons and clothing in Dead Money, but i answered this question in another thread and was most irritated in that i lost all my kick ass foods. Man i cannot tell you just how much Gecko Kabobs my characters eat, with the water replentishment half that of the food value they are literally a life saver in hardcoe mode. So loosing my gear pfft who cares but you touch my kabobs and well we going to fight.

Hm, good and bad.
I guess it's good to not be stripped if one wants to have certain items with you but on the other hand it also means that you'll probably enter with the best arsenal you got and only use it and not give the other weapons a try.
Should be like Pitt, that the gear is stolen for the first third of the DLC then you get it back and during the first third you'll have had to use the new weapons and might have grown a little more fond of them.

But I'll strip myself down completely to one light armor or clothing, one mid-tier weapon and some caps, nothing else.
Wouldn't want to enter with a crapload of equipment anyway.

I haven't purchased any for FONV DLC yet but I'll probably do a light armour and mid spec weapon combo myself as i did in FO3. With the stormchaser hat to give me that nevada trader look.

Hey! Speaking of stripping down, anyone going to laugh the first time we strip the tribal armor and a t-shirt and shorts appear on the corpse?
Or is the Courier just very modest and respectful of the dead?

He said specifically that Honest Hearts and OWB are both Point Lookout-style open worlds. That's what I'm happy about. Actually, the weight limit things doesn't really make any sense to me. You traveled tons more than the 160ish miles between New Vegas and Zion and you got almost the same weight as the new games. Also, why does traveling around 60ish RL miles from the North end of the map to the South end not require a similar weight limit? It's still a huge journey that you can do by yourself with tons of equipment. Either way it doesn't bother me much because I always travel light anyway, so it won't make much of a difference.

I'm still going in light. A pistol. A shotgun. Light armor. That's probably it. Disposable stuff; nothing unique.

I want to make sure I can carry (and, of course, use) as much new gear as possible my first time through.

Well cool, I'll still be traveling with absolutely nothing but the basic needs. i.e water, food and some doc bags just in case. Maybe a machete to if we need to defend the caravan or something, that gets hard with just to fists you know <_<
