official word from Bethesda?

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 12:15 pm

What boggles my mind is why they would still push the new version out to PC & 360 users today after all the complaints from PS3 users yesterday.

Why the hell would they not hold off and do some more QA and testing before [censored] the rest of us over, too?

To be honest, should they make a statement, people would still tear them apart over the words chosen or the tone. :P

This is the first time I spent time on Beth boards after a major release. It is pretty weird how silent they are.

I hang by the Bioware boards and guys like David Gader "the man responsible for writing the story out for DA Origins" was interacting with the community regularly.

lol and I love how still no official word from them. Is it so hard? Just a sticky. 'Hey, guys. Sorry. We made some mistakes here. We're working on it. A fix for ___ and ___ and ___ and ___ ad infinitum is being worked on. Bear with us. We're putting out the fires.' Surely there must someone with enough business sense at Bethesda to realize this. Has no one sat down there and said, 'Okay, whoa, we've taken people's money here. There's people out there who are just installing the game for the first time who don't know about the patches who will think dragons are supposed to fly backwards. I think it's time to bite the bullet, show some [censored] respect and work with these people.' No. Nothing but arrogant, nerdy [censored] silence. Get. A. Fkn. Grip. Bethesda. You need a PR firm. If you've got a PR firm, fire them, because they're as borked as you are.
Here is the official word and communication:
http://www.bethblog.com/
After releasing the 1.2 update, we will continue to monitor forums, blogs, etc. for issues you are reporting, and we will keep you updated on further updates to improve your gameplay experience.

Thanks for playing Skyrim.

Most developers don't read their forums. They have a couple people who's job is to do that. If the devs read the forums all they would be seeing is negative. That eventually gets to you. I make games and don't hardly read my forums bc of that. There's support available through official means. There's even a support link in the launcher. No one wants to tea trash over and over again. Even the thickest skin eventually gets bypassed. When the devs see nothing but negative they wi want to know why they should even bother. I agree with that. Most of you are just too damn selfish. Grow up. Patch incoming.

They don't come here because they know their paying customers would have every right to tear them to shreds. They couldn't [censored] spin on the forums like they can in a press release or "interview", people WILL throw the facts right back at them the minute they try to spin [censored].

The official word from Beth?!

Thanks for all the money! :rolleyes:

I think this explains better what Beth has to say about the situation:

Why on earth would they give any sort of official statement? As it is they can use plausible deniability in removing anything they dont like here and complain of "people who like to complain" regarding articles cropping up elsewhere and they have a large community of sheep happy.. happy.. to be unpaid testers.

Not forking over money for testers helps the bottom line and will show up on the of quarter dividends.

Nah, it's bullsh.t, and it needs to come out. They think we're just a bunch of fa.nboys/girls on a forum no one ever visits and they can just take our money, ram this broken sh.t down our throats and then let it die away in time for their 12/12/12 release of some new corner-cut, half-a.ssed, bug-filled cashcow. I'm contacting everyone big I can, starting with ZeniMax and directing them to this forum. I'm posting this on all the high traffic gaming blogs I can find. It's time they found out that this is a two-way transaction. I pay you: you give me my goods. You shaft me: I'll shaft you back.

Ok, so patch 1.2 came out and didn't fix many of the issues some people have. Still, it fixed a lot of issues! (can't comment on it breaking the game as my game runs better than ever with the new patch). So would it be so far fetched to think they are working on fixing all the issues, just that some take longer than others? So instead of releasing every bug fix in one patch, they release the easily fixable ones fast(1.2 patch) and then keep working on the rest? That way we get the easy fixes fixed now instead of having to deal with them until the rest of the fixes are done as well?

Say 4 guys get one thing to fix each, two finish in 5min as they are easy, while the other two take 2 days. To please the most people u then release the first two fixes after 5min and then the rest in 2 days. Then every problem gets fixes as soon as its possible..

That would involve work and admitting to something. Much better to pretend nothing happened and have psychophants claim you are a tiny vocal minority that i deluded and theirs is working fine (though they're here in the forums.. )

Kinda makes me think of that video on Youtube (look for a video called 'Siriously')

Basically, with iPhones, people buy them, just because they put an i on the front, and an apple on the back.... and well... bobs yer uncle - people buy it.

With Bethesda....

They dont care about getting it right first time...
They know that if they throw a 'The Elder Scrolls' phrase on the front, and maybe put Bethesda on the bottom of the box somewhere small, that we will buy the game.

Doesnt matter if it crashes everyone, or the game becomes unplayable - they are probably in a big board room, swimming in $ notes, laughing at the forums going
'Haha, I saw that bug in QA Phase 3 testing.... I thought I would leave it for someone else to raise in Tracker!!'
'Hahaha, Oh well.... tough luck Joel, Its a good thing its not an important piece of game play like the Wedding in Riftin, its just the Dragon Orientation system - but dont worry, I didnt raise the bug about the Corrupted save games either, I thought Billy would have caught it, he did find a typo in a conversation though.... that was a good catch... uh huh?'

Ya see where im going with this.....
At this point, I can only speculate as to what their QA Process is like, if they have any at all - but yeah, how does someone make a game, about dragons, and not spot the big epic fail bug, that makes the ... you know... Dragons.... Fly around backwards doing Matrix Bullet Dodging with Arrows.

That being said...
We are clearly in safe hands...
They have fixed the Sleeping NPC Bug,
And the Wedding.....

Feel Reassured...
I know I am..... NOT!

does it really matter? we know they are working on a new patch, so really whats the point of someone telling you that they are?

Because we are consumers who have given our money to a company who have yet to deliver a quality product in return?

Believe me - if the game was bug free, and quality assured, I would be singing praises.

They could even acknowledge the bug reports on the forum - instead we have a link to a blog post that was posted before it became apparent how buggy 1.2 has become. (I actually think the game for me, was less buggy when it came out, and is getting buggier - is that a word?)

Otherwise how would we know they are aware of specific bugs, and working on fixes.

I think we need a stickied post from a dev, or a member of the Bethesda team (who knows what they are talking about)
to come on, and quote the known issues, and then lock the topic, and any future patches etc, have the known issues added or removed from that post.
The word is Consolidation.... No sense having 1000+ posts with bugs. Create a centralized post and address the issues there - and strike the bugs off, as they get addressed.

lol and I love how still no official word from them. Is it so hard?
Bethesda hasn't discussed its in-release games with the general public in any forums, back to Morrowind, probably longer, None of them. Not ever.

The whiners, complainers, teeth-gnashing crowd should take notice of this:

http://www.dailytech.com/The+Elder+Scrolls+V+Skyrim+Tops+34+Million+Retail+Sales+in+First+2+Days/article23293.htm

They appear to be in a small minority, and very many whiners are not naming the components they are using to try to run the game. One thing Bethesda is ALWAY guilty of is gross stupidity about system requirements, else they are the most atrociously bad liars ever. The current game's official requirements, like 3 out of 4 of their relatively recent releases, are not practical (in Skyrim's case, they are just nonsense.)

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1246287-pc-specs-released/

Corrected Skyrim Minimum Requirements

* Windows 7/Vista/XP PC (32 or 64 bit)
* Processor: Dual Core 2.3 GHz C2D or equivalent CPU
* 2GB System RAM
* 6GB free HDD Space
* Direct X 9 compliant video card with 512 MB of RAM (and
sufficient performance to actually put that VRAM to use)

* DirectX compatible sound card
* Internet access for Steam activation

I have only just gotten on these forums but after following the old NWN(bioware) and NWN2(Bioware/Obsidian) forums I wish Bethesdas developers would interact with the community more like Bioware/Obsidian.
Its just a nice feeling to know that the devs are looking/listening to people. It also can give the community a sense of whats going on inside.

A simple statement at the top of the forum is all anybody is asking for. To the effect that 1.2 had a serious game mechanic breaking bug in it which somehow got through testing, and that a fix is being worked upon. Not even a date required at this stage, just the acknowledgement.

Instead, on the 360 Support Forum there's an official Sticky still telling users to update to patch 1.2, despite it breaking all Resistance effects for Blessings, Magical Items, race bonuses, a whole load of Perks, and bonuses from being werewolves or vampires. If nothing else that post should be taken down.
