Ok, calm down... you need to describe what you have done/actually happened that caused this quest to stop continuing. We aren't mind readers and since we don't know what you did (everyone does everything differently) we can't help you.

This quest doesn't require you to become a member of the College of Winterhold in order to find out about Septimus Signus Outpost, but It would take (at least for me) a long time to actually think about exploring that way. For me this quest started with the Main quest 'Elder Knowledge' because finding finding the Elder Scroll and Transcribing the Lexicon go hand-in-hand.

So it is helpful to describe what you did so that way we can point you in the right direction.

I think you have to be at or over level 15 for the 2nd part.

Edit: NVM: I see you're at 22 now.

Did you take the Elder Scroll off of the apparatus in Tower of Mzark or did you leave it there?

When you exited Tower of Mzark/Blackreach did you go directly into Skyrim or did you backtrack through Alftand?

I don't know if these are causes of the bug - just things I would try if I were having problems.

I see a bug listed on uesp that says: After obtaining the Elder Scroll, if you immediately go to The Throat of the World and read the scroll then go to Septimus and give him the lexicon, the quest will say "wait until he has figured out the lexicon and then he will contact you". He never will, rendering the player unable to complete the quest. This shouldn't be confused with the requirement of being level 15 before Septimus will summon you again. and another :There is a chance that if you remove the Elder Scroll before the Blank Lexicon is transcribed, you will be unable to further the quest. Not sure if it could be either of those or if you knew about them.http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Discerning_the_Transmundane Bug list should be near the bottom hope you figure it out :(

Damn. I wonder if it's some bad combination of the above.

I didn't read it on my own on either character and haven't gotten to the Throat of the World portion of the MQ on my 2nd. :o I'm wondering if just reading it before it's been used for the MQ is enough to bug the quest out. I know some people have mentioned that they read it from time-to-time as a goof (I think you see blinding white light and get temporarily stunned.), but I always assumed they were talking about doing after they've finished the MQ.

Damn. :(

I don't know a lot about programming, but I can't help but feel like if we could abandon quests and restart them that a lot of these bugs could be avoided or circumvented.

Now there is a sensible suggestion, buckom! A lot of other games let you drop quests and then start them over, I wonder why Bethesda never thought of it? Maybe people will then come back and cry, it breaks immersion! If I make a decision in real life, I can't take it back in most situations! LOL

Anyway, I did the Transmundane quest on 4 characters and never had any issues. I guess, I usually just go and look for Septimus' outpost when I'm level 20 or over. My first character stumbled over it by accident, while out exploring the icy wastes. LOL

So, unfortunately for the OP, the only solution is to do it again on another toon, I guess. :(

You know, that happened to me as well. I couldnt figure out why I couldnt get the quest to continue. Then I realized that I left the cube thingy in the oculatory. After going back to retrieve it, I gave it to him and continued with the quest.

Probably, but, hey broken immersion only gets you whining. Broken games gets you fewer sales in the future.

And, like you said: we can quit jobs, walk away from things we don't like, ignore/avoid people. I'm sure the Thalmor have some lawyers we could hire to sue the various guilds to get out of our 'contracts'.

The only thing left i can think of is to remake the character sadly, i had to go that route with my first mage. can really svck losing all that work though and should only be a very last resort.
