Ohhh Oblivion...

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 9:03 pm

I miss Oblivion a lot. I was on YouTube and came across some slide shows of Oblvion... The cities were much larger and better, the wandering around was much more exciting with all the weird creatures you'd find, and it was more... Im not really sure how to put it, but it was more mystical kinda. If you make some DLC for ps3 PLEASE make some more creatures I beg you! And I'm not sure if you can cause I'm not a huge gamer, but if you can make the cities better... Like the cities in Oblivion, make something like a Minotaur! I loved those!
What do you guys think? (Please no sarcastic a$$ crack comments...)

I do wish they made the cities bigger, but we can't change it now.

Skyrim is more "natural" place than previous TES games. Enemies are mostly animals or humans.

I really have to agree with this, it gets pretty tiring killing wolves and bears and bears and giants and bears.

I definitely agree with this part. Oblivion did have a more interesting selection of enemies roaming around.

agreed, the animals are a bit mundane but they're also realistic. although i don't know why ogres/ miinotaurs didn't make it into the game with no explanation besides the 200 year time gap. the lack of deadra enemies is clearly because of the lack of oblivion gates but whatever, i enjoy it.

Good advice, I stick to Skyrim, I can probably do the mage guild qualification quests blindfolded.
However the amount of Oblivion nostalgic in this forum warms my heart after for years clamming that Oblivion was as good as Morrowind.
The things I could do in Morrowind blindfolded is downright scary.

Its Skyrim.

Not Cyrodil.

Different region, different feel.

TES will no doubt return to Cyrodil at some point, perhaps we can visit the ruins of the Imperial City when the Empire falls, but there is much more than simply bears and wolves.

An oversimplified sentiment at least.

Aztec is on the right track here, Skyrim is for the Nords after all.

Skyrim is more "natural" place than previous TES games. Enemies are mostly animals or humans.

Some things just don't make sense in Skyrim.

the selection of creaturs, while larger than oblivion's, is pathetic, there is a sever lack of magical creatures

Whenever people moan about Skyrim and compare it to Oblivion I laugh
Now if they compared it to MW that would be serious

I would like a DLC that added more Daedra summons, either focused on a Daedra cult or a Daedric plane ( I don't really care, just give me the spells)

Im just glad they have a larger selection and it isn't fluffed up with 6 different types of goblins.

Like an above poster mentioned this is skyrim not cyrodil, you can always visit it again if you have the game. Im glad they moved a bit more away from the classic rpg creatures like goblins and minotaurs.

The more 'magical' creatures are found in elevated, more isolated areas and in dungeons and forts, and they appear from the start of the game instead of appearing with the appropriate level of the player. The only time they add new enemies is the stronger versions as you level in skyrim (bandits, bandit thugs etc), which is great since if I feel like it, I can take on a troll at level 1 instead of waiting till the appropriate level for them to appear.

I hope they do something really exotic for one of the Skyrim dlcs, like Shivering Isles which was amazing.

I do like the Skyrim cities a lot more than the Oblivion ones. They have much more distinct buildings and styles. I like Windhelm better than Bruma, Solitude more than Chorrol, Whiterun more than Cheydinhal, and Riften more than Bravil. There is also nothing in Oblivion remotely like Markarth.

I think the variety of creatures is adequate and fits perfectly with the overall tone of the game.

Uhm.. They were not. The city size is pretty much about the same, varying per city.

If anything the cities in Oblivion were just as underwhelming. In particular the Imperial City which imho was the most underwhelming city ever in a TES game. The thousands years old city, capital of all of Tamriel, fabled in the lore, was a cart-wheel of tiny sections with a sparse population. It was not the capital I imagined, it didn't even come close.

Interesting. I never felt as if Skyrim was lacking in interesting enemies. There are your standard bandits and bears, but we also have wisps and wispmothers, Falmer, Dwemer spheres, spiders, and centurions, frost, flame, and storm atronachs, the draugr and lichlords, spriggans, trolls, giants ...and dragons, of course.

Sounds like plenty of mystical creatures to me. The only thing missing are Daedra, but that's understandable and expected, considering the Oblivion Crisis largely put an end to their stomping around Tamriel.

But when it comes to interesting and unique creatures, nothing tops Morrowind, in my opinion. Corprus beasts, cliff racers, nix hounds, the wide variety of Daedric enemies, and with Tribunal and Bloodmoon, you've got quite a wide selection of critters to beat up.

I like the realism of Skyrim, but then, I like real animals. And the first time a sabrecat came at me I just about fell off the couch. Whereas Daedra and such are cool, but less scary.

Cities and creatures? Oblivion was dull. Skyrim is exciting.

You want cities and creatures? Go outside, there are cities everywhere they have zoo's. When I play a game I want to have fun doing things. Oblivion was so bland and unexciting, no matter what level I was there were no surprises, no chance of ever walking into an area and getting crushed by over leveled bad guys. Oblivion was lame, Skyrim get's the blood flowing.
